Article Synopsis
  • - WDR83OS encodes a protein called Asterix, which works with another protein, CCDC47, to help fold large proteins correctly, specifically those with transmembrane domains.
  • - Recent findings linked mutations in CCDC47 and WDR83OS to trichohepatoneurodevelopmental syndrome, showing consistent symptoms like neurodevelopmental disorders, facial dysmorphism, and liver dysfunction across multiple families.
  • - A zebrafish model lacking Wdr83os function demonstrated its crucial role in the nervous system and lipid absorption, further establishing a connection between WDR83OS mutations and neurological diseases characterized by elevated bile acids.

Article Synopsis
  • Human-to-human transmission of MERS-CoV is inefficient, but there are worries it could mutate and become more transmissible.
  • A study examined if enhancing the S1/S2 cleavage site of the MERS-CoV spike protein could improve its entry into human lung cells, similar to SARS-CoV-2.
  • Results showed that changes to the cleavage site did not increase MERS-CoV's ability to infect lung cells, indicating it might not have the same transmission potential as SARS-CoV-2.

Background: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a psychiatric condition characterized by recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions) performed to relieve distress related to the obsessions. For patients with severe illness refractory to first-line pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy, neurosurgical treatments such as deep brain stimulation (DBS) and stereotactic lesioning are an option. The choice between DBS and lesioning is often driven by patient preference, but these options are not mutually exclusive.

Background And Objective: Non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) is a prevalent condition causing significant disability and functional impairment. Whole-body vibration exercise (WBVE) has emerged as a new treatment method, but additional research is necessary to determine the optimal parameters of WBVE that would be beneficial for patients experiencing chronic low back pain (CLBP). This study aims to investigate the effects of two type of WBVE (constant progressive) on pain, disability, functional performance, and muscle activity in patients with NSCLBP.

Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, College of Applied Medical Sciences, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University, Dammam, 31441, Saudi Arabia.

Adaptive, rather than innate, immunity relies mainly on antigen-antibody recognition. This recognition is driven by the binding of specific antibody paratopes to distinct epitopes found on antigens. This interaction is pivotal for immune responses that have been re-purposed for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

  • Psoriasis is a lifelong skin condition, and Tofacitinib, a type of JAK inhibitor, may help improve skin lesions and overall patient outcomes, but it also carries risks like increased infections due to its immunosuppressive nature.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted, following specific guidelines, to compare the safety of Tofacitinib against placebo, focusing on the occurrence of serious infections and other adverse effects among participants.
  • Among 998 studies, only six randomized controlled trials with 2,516 psoriasis patients were included; the results indicated increased risks of herpes zoster and respiratory infections, but no significant differences in safety outcomes were found between those taking Tofacitinib and those receiving a placebo

Developing efficacious catalysts with superior Cl resistance and polychlorinated byproduct inhibition capability is crucial for realizing the environmentally friendly purification of chlorinated volatile organic compounds (CVOCs). Activating CVOC molecules and desorbing Cl species by modulating the metal-oxygen property is a promising strategy to fulfill these. Herein, a bifunctional CoRu/AlO catalyst with synergistic Co and Ru interactions (Ru-O-Co species) was rationally fabricated, which possesses abundant surface Co and Ru sites and collaboratively facilitates the activation of lattice oxygen (O) and molecular oxygen (O → O → O), accelerating 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCE) decomposition the reaction route of enolic species → aldehydes → carboxylate/carbonate.
