Black women continue to be disproportionally burdened by HIV. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective HIV prevention option, which is underused by Black women. While social network interventions (SNIs) have been widely researched and implemented among some groups vulnerable to HIV, little is known about social network characteristics among Black women.

Lectin-Based Fluorescent Comparison of Glycan Profile-FDA Validation to Expedite Approval of Biosimilars.

Glycan profile comparisons are one of the most tedious analytical exercises for establishing compliance with recombinant therapeutic protein batches. Based on its intensive research, the FDA has confirmed that lectin array binding with fluorescent monitoring is the fastest and most reliable method for profile comparisons. Using a database of over 150 biological products expressed in nine diverse mammalian cell systems, the FDA immobilized 74 lectins to study their binding using fluorescently labeled glycoproteins.

Osteopontin Regulates Treg Cell Stability and Function with Implications for Anti-Tumor Immunity and Autoimmunity.

Foxp3-expressing regulatory T (Treg) cells represent the most highly immunosuppressive cell in the tumor microenvironment (TME) that halts effective anti-tumor immunity. Osteopontin (Opn), an extracellular matrix (ECM) glycophosphoprotein, plays key roles in many types of immune-related diseases and is associated with cancer aggressiveness when expressed by tumor cells. However, its role in Foxp3Treg heterogeneity, function, and stability in the TME is poorly defined.

Advancements and Challenges in Exercise Training for Multiple Sclerosis: Comprehensive Review and Future Directions for Randomized Controlled Trials.

Exercise training represents a health behavior for the treatment and management of the multi-faceted manifestations of multiple sclerosis (MS). This paper provides a comprehensive overview of evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) regarding benefits, safety, participation, and guidelines for exercise training in MS, based on systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The paper then provides our opinions based on extensive experience regarding challenges for improving and expanding future RCTs that will advance our understanding of exercise training in MS.

Trans-arterial embolization versus chemoembolization for neuroendocrine liver metastases: a propensity matched analysis.

Introduction: Locoregional therapies are a mainstay of treatment for patients with neuroendocrine liver metastases (NELM), yet the optimal transarterial approach remains undefined and recent studies have raised concern over the safety of transarterial chemoembolization (TACE).

Methods: Patients with NELM who underwent TACE or transarterial embolization (TAE) at a single institution between 2000-2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Propensity score matching (PSM) controlling for age, sex, bilateral disease, tumor size, lobar embolization, grade, and extrahepatic disease was utilized to compare short- and long-term outcomes.

Protein phosphorylation is a crucial regulatory mechanism in cell signaling, acting as a molecular switch that modulates protein function. Catalyzed by protein kinases and reversed by phosphoprotein phosphatases, it is essential in both normal physiological and pathological states. Recent advances have uncovered a vast and intricate landscape of protein phosphorylation that include histidine phosphorylation and more unconventional events, such as pyrophosphorylation and polyphosphorylation.

Background: Latines suffer from breast cancer (BC), due to elevated biological and social determinants of health (SDOH) risks. This study compares the effects of different strategies on uptake of cancer genetic services, specifically hereditary cancer risk assessment, genetic counseling, and genetic testing, and risk-based BC care.

The effect of cooking aerosol on the human heart was investigated in this study. The heart rate and blood pressure of 33 healthy adults were monitored before, exactly after, and two hours post-exposure (30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes after cooking). One hundred twenty grams of ground beef was fried in sunflower oil for twenty minutes using a gas stove without ventilation.

Understanding nurses' perceptions of and experiences with RRTs is important to inform education and policy that improve nurse performance, RRT effectiveness, and patient outcomes.

Our objective was to determine whether Child Opportunity Index (COI), a measure of neighborhood socioeconomic and built environment specific to children, mediated the relationship of census tract Black or Hispanic predominance with increased rates of census tract violence-related mortality. The hypothesis was that COI would partially mediate the relationship. This cross-sectional study combined data from the American Community Survey 5-year estimates, the COI 2.

Pyridine nucleotide-disulfide oxidoreductases are underexplored as drug targets, and thioredoxin reductases (TrxRs) stand out as compelling pharmacological targets. Selective TrxR inhibition is challenging primarily due to the reliance on covalent inhibition strategies. Recent studies identified a regulatory and druggable pocket in thioredoxin glutathione reductase (TGR), a TrxR-like enzyme, and an established drug target for schistosomiasis.

Protease activated receptor-1 regulates mixed lineage kinase-3 to drive triple-negative breast cancer tumorigenesis.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is difficult to treat breast cancer subtype due to lack or insignificant expressions of targetable estrogen receptor (ER) and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). Therefore, finding a targetable protein or signaling pathway in TNBC would impact patient care. Here, we report that a member of the Mixed Lineage Kinase (MLK) family, MLK3, is an effector of G-protein-coupled protease-activated receptors 1 (PAR1) and targeting MLK3 by a small-molecule inhibitor prevented PAR1-mediated TNBC tumorigenesis.

Every year, the dependence of optical imaging and holography on computational methods is increasing significantly to the extent that optical methods and components are being completely and efficiently replaced with computational methods at low cost. This roadmap reviews the current scenario in four major areas namely incoherent digital holography, quantitative phase imaging, imaging through scattering layers, and super-resolution imaging.

Hypertension Prevalence among Hispanics/Latinos of Dominican Background: A Transnational Comparison of HCHS/SOL and ENPREFAR-HAS-17.

Background: Hispanics/Latinos of Dominican background living in United States (US) have the highest hypertension prevalence compared with other Hispanic/Latino persons.

Objective: To understand cardiovascular health among Dominicans, we evaluated hypertension prevalence and risk factors among Dominicans from the US and Dominican Republic (DR) using data from Hispanic Community Health Study/ Study of Latinos [HCHS/SOL] and the Prevalencia de Hipertension Arterial y Factores de Riesgo Cardiovasculares en la República Dominicana al 2017 (ENPREFAR-HAS 17) study.

Methods: Hypertension was defined as blood pressure ≥140/90 mmHg, self-reported hypertension, or antihypertensive use.

Metabolic immaturity and breastmilk bile acid metabolites are central determinants of heightened newborn vulnerability to norovirus diarrhea.

The pathogenic outcome of enteric virus infections is governed by a complex interplay between the virus, intestinal microbiota, and host immune factors, with metabolites serving as a key mediator. Noroviruses bind bile acid metabolites, which are produced by the host and then modified by commensal bacteria. Paradoxically, bile acids can have both proviral and antiviral roles during norovirus infections.

Effect of Time-Restricted Eating on Sleep in Type 2 Diabetes.

The aim of this secondary analysis was to compare the effects of time-restricted eating (TRE) versus calorie restriction (CR) and controls on sleep in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Adults with T2D (n = 75) were randomized to 1 of 3 interventions for 6 months: 8 h TRE (eating only between 12 and 8 pm daily); CR (25% energy restriction daily); or control. Our results show that TRE has no effect on sleep quality, duration, insomnia severity, or risk of obstructive sleep apnea, relative to CR and controls, in patients with T2D over 6 months.

Mature MUC5AC Expression in Resected Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Predicts Treatment Response and Outcomes.

Neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) for early-stage pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) has recently gained prominence. We investigated the clinical significance of mucin 5 AC (MUC5AC), which exists in two major glycoforms, a less-glycosylated immature isoform (IM) and a heavily glycosylated mature isoform (MM), as a biomarker in resected PDA. Immunohistochemistry was performed on 100 resected PDAs to evaluate the expression of the IM and MM of MUC5AC using their respective monoclonal antibodies, CLH2 (NBP2-44455) and 45M1 (ab3649).

Here, we review human studies examining the associations between asthma and obesity, focusing on the literature from the past 10 years.

Comparative Study of Alternative Methods for Measuring Leg Length Discrepancy after Robot-Assisted Total Hip Arthroplasty.

Background: Our study addresses the lack of consensus on measuring leg length discrepancy (LLD) after total hip arthroplasty (THA). We will assess the inter-observer variability and correlation between the five most commonly used LLD methods and investigate the use of trigonometric principles in overcoming the limitations of current techniques.

Methods: LLD was measured on postoperative AP pelvic radiographs using five conventional methods.
