Brain-machine interfaces (BMIs) have advanced greatly in decoding speech signals originating from the speech motor cortices. Primarily, these BMIs target individuals with intact speech motor cortices but who are paralyzed by disrupted connections between frontal cortices and their articulators due to brainstem stroke or motor neuron diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. A few studies have shown some information outside the speech motor cortices, such as in parietal and temporal lobes, that also may be useful for BMIs.

Low-and middle-income countries experience 77% of the world's premature deaths caused by non-communicable diseases, and their underlying health determinant data are often scarce and inaccurate. Improving satellite imagery data literacy worldwide is an integral step toward using the vast amount of publicly available data collected via satellites, such as air pollution, green space and light at night-all determinants of non-communicable diseases. Existing machine learning-based algorithms enable automated analysis of satellite imagery data, but health officials and scientists must know where to find and how to apply these algorithms to measure risk and target interventions.

ConspectusStructural DNA nanotechnology offers a unique self-assembly toolbox to construct soft materials of arbitrary complexity, through bottom-up approaches including DNA origami, brick, wireframe, and tile-based assemblies. This toolbox can be expanded by incorporating interactions orthogonal to DNA base-pairing such as metal coordination, small molecule hydrogen bonding, π-stacking, fluorophilic interactions, or the hydrophobic effect. These interactions allow for hierarchical and long-range organization in DNA supramolecular assemblies through a DNA-minimal approach: the use of fewer unique DNA sequences to make complex structures.

Measurement of enzymatic activity in newborn dried blood spots (DBS) is the preferred first-tier method in newborn screening (NBS) for mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) disorders. However, false positives are observed due mainly to the presence of pseudodeficiencies. Our previous publications on glycosaminoglycan (GAG) biomarker levels in dried blood spots (DBS) for mucopolysaccharidoses demonstrated that second-tier GAG biomarker analysis can dramatically reduce the false positive rate in NBS.
