Predicting fall parameters from infant skull fractures using machine learning.

When infants are admitted to the hospital with skull fractures, providers must distinguish between cases of accidental and abusive head trauma. Limited information about the incident is available in such cases, and witness statements are not always reliable. In this study, we introduce a novel, data-driven approach to predict fall parameters that lead to skull fractures in infants in order to aid in determinations of abusive head trauma.

Peripheral T-Cell Lymphoma-NOS in Children and Adolescents: a Review from the Children's Oncology Group NHL Committee.

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma-not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS) is a rare mature T-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) seen in both children and adults. While it is the most common non-anaplastic mature T-cell lymphoma of childhood, it is quite rare and therefore, the standard of care remains largely undefined. It is a disease characterized by clinical and pathological heterogeneity and is generally associated with an aggressive clinical course and poor prognosis in adults.

New onset refractory status epilepticus: Long-term outcomes beyond seizures.

We propose and prioritize important outcome domains that should be considered for future research investigating long-term outcomes (LTO) after new onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE). However, studies have focused on the perspectives of cisgender heterosexual individuals, which is notable given that sexual and gender minority (SGM) people often describe feelings misrepresented by prevailing ED conceptualizations. We examined eating pathology and psychosocial functioning across subjective recovery stages in SGM individuals ( = 196).

Data-Driven Equation-Free Dynamics Applied to Many-Protein Complexes: The Microtubule Tip Relaxation.

Microtubules (MTs) constitute the largest components of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton and play crucial roles in various cellular processes, including mitosis and intracellular transport. The property allowing MTs to cater to such diverse roles is attributed to dynamic instability, which is coupled to the hydrolysis of GTP (guanosine-5'-triphosphate) to GDP (guanosine-5'-diphosphate) within the β-tubulin monomers. Understanding the equilibrium dynamics and the structural features of both GDP- and GTP-complexed MT tips, especially at an all-atom level, remains challenging for both experimental and computational methods because of their dynamic nature and the prohibitive computational demands of simulating large, many-protein systems.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and gestational diabetes mellitus and predicted risk of maternal cardiovascular disease 10-14 years after delivery: A prospective cohort.

Aims: Studies evaluating the relationship between adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs), namely hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), with the estimated risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remains limited and could inform patient-centred decision-making in the postpartum period. Enhanced sampling of protein conformational changes via true reaction coordinates from energy relaxation.

The bottleneck in enhanced sampling lies in finding collective variables that effectively accelerate protein conformational changes; true reaction coordinates that accurately predict the committor are the well-recognized optimal choice. However, identifying them requires unbiased natural reactive trajectories, which, paradoxically, require effective enhanced sampling. Using the generalized work functional method, we uncover that true reaction coordinates control both conformational changes and energy relaxation, enabling us to compute them from energy relaxation simulations.

Traction and avulsion is an effective treatment procedure with a relatively low recurrence rate, especially when systemic glucocorticoids are given after polyp removal.

Intracellular Pocket Conformations Determine Signaling Efficacy through the μ Opioid Receptor.

It has been challenging to determine how a ligand that binds to a receptor activates downstream signaling pathways and to predict the strength of signaling. The challenge is compounded by functional selectivity, in which a single ligand binding to a single receptor can activate multiple signaling pathways at different levels. Spectroscopic studies show that in the largest class of cell surface receptors, 7 transmembrane receptors (7TMRs), activation is associated with ligand-induced shifts in the equilibria of intracellular pocket conformations in the absence of transducer proteins.

Development and Evaluation of a Presenter Coaching Program at an Academic Surgical Conference.

Objective: Presenting at academic conferences is an important means of disseminating research, networking, and building a professional reputation, but the quality of presentations at conferences is often suboptimal. This project describes the design, implementation, and evaluation of a presentation coaching program offered by an academic surgical society to presenters at its annual meeting.

Design: Oral presenters were paired with a coach and encouraged to meet independently, yet coaching was unstructured.
