Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between linea alba width and unclosed pediatric umbilical hernias.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted on patients with pediatric umbilical hernias persisting beyond the age of 2, from April 2014 to March 2021. Additionally, data from children who underwent computed tomography (CT) for other conditions or injuries, such as diarrhea or traffic accidents, were collected from April 2010 to March 2022.

Background: In the first-line treatment of elderly patients with advanced-stage non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with high programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) expression (tumor proportion score ≥ 50%), this study aimed to determine whether pembrolizumab monotherapy (MONO) or pembrolizumab plus platinum-based chemotherapy (COMB) should be selected.
Methods: We performed a retrospective multicenter study (sub-analysis of the HOT/NJLCG2001 trial) of 299 patients with NSCLC with high PD-L1 expression who received MONO or COMB as the first-line treatment between December 2018 and January 2020. We selected patients aged 75 years and older and assessed the clinical efficacy and toxicity.

Uncertainties in the steps of external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) affect patient outcomes. However, few studies have investigated major contributors to these uncertainties. This study investigated factors contributing to reducing uncertainty in delivering a dose to a target volume.

Introduction: Chemoimmunotherapy is widely used as the first-line management of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in clinical settings. However, predictive factors associated with the development of immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and prognostic factors for NSCLC patients undergoing chemoimmunotherapy remains largely unexplored. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to evaluate predictive factors for irAE development and prognostic factors associated with chemoimmunotherapy in NSCLC patients.

TAFRO syndrome is a rare systemic inflammatory disorder with a fatal course. Nevertheless, a definitive treatment strategy has not yet been established. Anti-inflammatory therapies, including glucocorticoid treatment and immunosuppressants, have not been satisfactory.

Background And Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness and acceptability of neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Methods: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the effectiveness and accessibility of NMES and compared them with usual care in patients with acute exacerbation of COPD by searching databases such as MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials published up to April 2022. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) involving patients with COPD who were treated within 3 weeks of acute exacerbation onset were included.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate and identify magnetic resonance (MR) findings of mural nodules to detect squamous cell carcinoma arising from ovarian mature cystic teratoma (SCC-MCT).
Methods: This retrospective study examined 135 patients (SCC-MCTs, n = 12; and benign MCTs, n = 123) with confirmed diagnoses across five different institutions between January 2010 and June 2022. Preoperative MR images for each patient were independently assessed by two experienced radiologists and analyzed following previously reported findings (PRFs): age, tumor size, presence of mural nodules, size of mural nodule, and the angle between mural nodule and cyst wall (acute or obtuse).

Introduction: Combination therapy of anti-programmed cell death 1 (PD-1)/programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) antibodies and platinum-based chemotherapy has been widely used as a first-line treatment for patients with unresectable advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in clinical settings; however, prognostic biomarkers associated with survival outcomes have not been sufficiently investigated.
Methods: We enrolled 147 previously untreated patients with advanced NSCLC who were treated with a combination therapy of anti-PD-1/-PD-L1 antibodies and platinum-based chemotherapy at eight institutions in Nagano Prefecture between December 2018 and April 2023. We evaluated the prognostic value of the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), a systemic inflammatory nutritional biomarker calculated from body weight and serum albumin level, for patients with NSCLC treated with a combination therapy of anti-PD-1/-PD-L1 antibodies and platinum-based chemotherapy.

Background: Rechallenge therapy with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) is known to confer some clinical benefit for patients with metastatic EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, little is known about the efficacy of EGFR-TKI rechallenge after resistance to first-line (1L) osimertinib. This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of EGFR-TKI rechallenge therapy after resistance to 1L osimertinib in a Japanese clinical setting.

Two-stage surgery may be necessary when total tumor removal cannot be accomplished in the first surgery; however, the extent and condition in which the remaining tumor should be before the next surgery have not yet been established. There is a risk of postoperative hemorrhage in the residual tumor, especially in hypervascular tumors. We report a case of hypervascular choroid plexus papilloma (CPP) in a 22-year-old male patient where the preservation of intratumoral venous drainage was considered important to avoid hemorrhagic complications during a two-stage surgery.

Background: A supervised physiotherapy program (SPP) is a standard regimen after surgical rotator cuff repair (RCR); however, the effect of a home-based exercise program (HEP), as an alternative, on postoperative functional recovery remains unclear. Therefore, the purpose of this meta-analysis was to compare the functional effects of SPP and HEP after RCR.
Methods: We searched electronic databases including Central, Medline, and Embase in April 2022.

Background: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have revolutionized the treatment of advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and contributed to the development of precision medicine. Osimertinib is a standard first-line (1L) treatment for -mutated NSCLC and has demonstrated superior survival benefits over previous-generation TKIs. However, resistance to osimertinib is nearly inevitable, and subsequent treatment strategies remain unmet medical needs in this setting.

Introduction: Combination immunotherapy is widely used in clinical practice as the first-line treatment for advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, predictive factors associated with long-term response to combination immunotherapy have not been well investigated. Herein, we compared the clinical findings, including systemic inflammatory nutritional biomarkers, between responders and nonresponders to combination immunotherapy.

Cancer cachexia is a complex multifaceted syndrome involving functional impairment and changes in body composition that cannot be reversed by nutritional support. Cancer cachexia is characterized by decreased skeletal muscle mass, increased lipolysis, and decreased food intake. Cancer cachexia decreases chemotherapy tolerance as well as quality of life.

Background: Acquired idiopathic generalized anhidrosis (AIGA) leads to heat intolerance due to the loss or reduction in thermoregulatory sweating over an extensive area of the body. The pathomechanism of AIGA is still unclear but is believed to be autoimmune.
Objectives: We investigated the clinical and pathological features of inflammatory AIGA (InfAIGA) and noninflammatory AIGA (non-InfAIGA) within the skin.

The effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) in patients with heart failure (HF) remain controversial. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to examine the efficacy of HIIT versus moderate-intensity continuous aerobic training (MCT) on exercise tolerance in patients with HF. We searched for studies published up to 4 March 2022 in Embase, MEDLINE, PubMed, and the Cochrane Library with no limitations on data, language, or publication status.
