Cancer is a disease characterized by the continuous growth of cells without adherence to the rules that healthy normal cells obey. Carbonic anhydrase I and II (CA I and CA II) inhibitors are used for the treatment of some diseases. The available drugs in the market have limitations or side effects, which bring about the need to develop new drug candidate compound(s) to overcome the problems at issue.

Glutathione s-transferase (GST) is a class of enzymes that performs a wide array of biological functions. However, GST enzymes are most famously known for their roles in catalyzing the conjugation of reduced glutathione (GSH) to electrophilic centers on a wide variety of substrates to induce water-solubility to compounds as a protective antioxidant mechanism against toxic substances. In the present study, inhibition effects of coumarin, ascorbic acid, sodium sulfide, sodium azide, citric acid compounds, and Cd, Cu, Ni, Mg metal ions against GST enzyme were determined.

Assessment of the Relationship between Ulcerative Colitis and Forkhead Box P3 Polymorphisms.

Turk J Gastroenterol

March 2021

Department of Pharmacy Services, Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University, Patnos Vocational School, Turkey.

Background/aims: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic disease that does not have a definitive treatment and causes repetitive inflammation of the colon and impaired quality of life. The FOXP3 gene codes FOXP3 protein responsible for development and function of regulatory T (Treg) cells. The rs2232365 A/G and the rs3761548 A/C polymorphisms of FOXP3 gene were indicated to be associated with inflammation-related diseases such as ulcerative colitis.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored how aprepitant (APRE) affects lung tissues in rats with a sepsis model induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP).
  • Researchers divided 40 rats into five groups, with varying doses of aprepitant administered to those in the treatment groups after inducing sepsis.
  • Key findings indicated that aprepitant improved antioxidant levels and lung tissue condition, notably with the highest benefit seen in the group treated with 40 mg/kg of aprepitant.

Two limiting cases of molecular recognition, induced fit (IF) and conformational selection (CS), play a central role in allosteric regulation of natural systems. The IF paradigm states that a substrate "instructs" the host to change its shape after complexation, while CS asserts that a guest "selects" the optimal fit from an ensemble of preexisting host conformations. With no studies that quantitatively address the interplay of two limiting pathways in abiotic systems, we herein and for the first time describe the way by which twisted capsule M-1, encompassing two conformers M-1(+) and M-1(-), trap CX (X=Cl, Br) to give CX ⊂M-1(+) and CX ⊂M-1(-), with all four states being in thermal equilibrium.
