September 2022

Natural Products and Drug Research Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Arts, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, 17020, Canakkale, Turkey. Electronic address:

Inhibition of high cholinesterase levels including acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), is one of the most important strategies for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Clinically limited drugs are used in the treatment of AD, so there is a need to find new effective inhibitors today. Therefore, in this study, synthesized six coumarin carboxamides (A1, A2, B1-B4) were evaluated against AChE and BChE by combined in silico and in vitro studies.

Amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, the emergence of several variants in a relatively high mutation rate (twice per month) strengthened the importance of finding out a chemical entity that can be potential for developing an effective medicine. In this study, we explored ethyl acetate (EtOAc) extract of a marine-derived fungus afforded three butenolide derivatives, butyrolactones I, VI and V (-), two naphtho--pyrones, TMC-256 A1 () and rubrofusarin B () and methyl -hydroxyphenyl acetate (). Structure identification was unambiguously determined based on exhaustive spectral analyses including 1D/2D NMR and mass spectrometry.

The synthesis of natural products 2-(2,3-dibromo-4,5-dihydroxyphenyl)acetic acid () and 2-(2,6-dibromo-3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)acetic acid () and as well as their derivatives and were carried out by substitution, hydrolysis and demethylation reactions of the corresponding four benzyl bromides. The antioxidant potentials of benzylic acid-derived bromophenols were, for the first time, appraised by several outstanding bioanalytical methods. Besides these, we estimated the antioxidant effects which were studied using the methods of DPPH·, ABTS scavenging activities, ferric (Fe) and cupric (Cu) ions and Fe-TPTZ reducing capacities.

The present study mainly focused on college students during the COVID-19 outbreak and aimed to develop and examine a moderated mediation model between perceived stress and life satisfaction, with social adaptation during COVID-19 as a mediator, and emotional resilience as a moderator. A sample of 1032 college students participated in this study and completed questionnaires regarding perceived stress, social adaptation during COVID-19, emotional resilience, and life satisfaction. Findings indicated that 1) social adaptation during COVID-19 partially mediated the association between perceived stress and life satisfaction; and 2) emotional resilience moderated the relationship between perceived stress and social adaptation during COVID-19 as well as perceived stress and life satisfaction.
