High-energy nuclear collisions create a quark-gluon plasma, whose initial condition and subsequent expansion vary from event to event, impacting the distribution of the eventwise average transverse momentum [P([p_{T}])]. Disentangling the contributions from fluctuations in the nuclear overlap size (geometrical component) and other sources at a fixed size (intrinsic component) remains a challenge. This problem is addressed by measuring the mean, variance, and skewness of P([p_{T}]) in ^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb and ^{129}Xe+^{129}Xe collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=5.

University of Sousse, Faculty of Medicine of Ibn ElJazzar Sousse, 4002, Farhat Hached university Hôpital, Service of rheumatology, 4031, Sousse, Tunisia.

Introduction-Aim: Postpartum septic osteoarthritis is a rare but serious condition often misdiagnosed due to overlap with common postpartum symptoms like pelvic pain and joint stiffness. This case series aims to describe the clinical, bacteriological, and radiological characteristics of postpartum septic osteoarthritis, as well as the treatment approaches and patient outcomes. Methods: A retrospective case series was conducted at Farhat Hached University Hospital, from 2006 to 2022, involving patients with confirmed postpartum septic osteoarthritis.

Article Synopsis
  • Bloodstream infections need quick bacterial identification for effective treatment, with traditional methods being slow.
  • The study compared direct identification using MALDI-TOF MS with the post-culture method, finding that while direct identification had a lower success rate (64.8%), it provided results in under an hour.
  • Despite its limitations, the direct method could significantly enhance diagnosis speed, making it a potentially valuable tool in conjunction with established methods.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex autoimmune disease of the central nervous system with an unknown etiology. While disease-modifying therapies can slow progression, there is a need for more effective treatments. Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) modeling using topological indices derived from chemical graph theory is a promising approach to rationally design new drugs for MS.

Background/aim: COGNITIVE FLEXIBILITY REFERS TO PEOPLE'S CAPACITY TO CHANGE OR EVOLVE THEIR THINKING AND STRATEGIES WHEN CONFRONTED WITH NEW INFORMATION OR CIRCUMSTANCES: These attributes are essential in research environments where complex and dynamic challenges frequently arise. In this study, the aim is to explore and establish whether a correlation exists between cognitive flexibility and research performance, especially in the medical students, in order to fill the deficit, if any, as well as understand the status of research teaching.

Methods: We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study with medical students from the College of Medicine at King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Background: Understanding the connection between parental wellbeing and its impact on childhood depression is crucial in order to develop targeted interventions and support systems that can mitigate potential long-term effects on mental health. This study focuses on examining the properties of an Arabic translation of a questionnaire called Short Mood and Feelings Questionnaire Parent Version (SMFQ-P) as a preliminary step toward validating a culturally relevant screening tool for childhood depression in Lebanon.

Methods: A total of 502 parents, recruited through a snowball method, took part in the survey with an age of 36.

Insider threats pose a significant challenge to IT security, particularly with the rise of generative AI technologies, which can create convincing fake user profiles and mimic legitimate behaviors. Traditional intrusion detection systems struggle to differentiate between real and AI-generated activities, creating vulnerabilities in detecting malicious insiders. To address this challenge, this paper introduces a novel Deep Synthesis Insider Intrusion Detection (DS-IID) model.

It is well evidenced that Early Maladaptive Schemas (EMS) are important mental health determinants, particularly in adolescents and young adults. The short version of the Young Schema Questionnaire (YSQ-S3) is widely used globally to assess EMS, and has yet to be validated in the Arabic language. The aim of the current study was to validate the Arabic version of the YSQ-S3 in Arabic-speaking young adults from Lebanon.

Statins for vascular dementia: A hype or hope.

Neuroscience

December 2024

Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Damanhour University, Damanhour, 22511, AlBeheira, Egypt.

Article Synopsis
  • Vascular dementia (VaD) is the second most common type of dementia after Alzheimer’s disease, characterized by cognitive impairment and memory loss, often linked to cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA).
  • Early diagnosis and the use of anti-inflammatory treatments can potentially prevent the development of VaD, but there are currently no effective drugs available specifically for its management.
  • Statins, commonly used for lowering cholesterol, may show promise in treating VaD and improving cognitive function, but the exact mechanisms of their effectiveness are still not well understood.

Al-air batteries are distinguished by their high theoretical energy density, yet their broader application is hindered by hydrogen evolution corrosion. This research focuses Beta (+) d-glucose (S1) and Adonite (S2) as potential corrosion inhibitors for the Al-5052 alloy within a 4 M NaOH solution. Utilizing electrochemical techniques, hydrogen evolution assessments, and surface analyses, our findings indicate enhancements in anode utilization by 21.

Article Synopsis
  • Rotator cuff tears are common among middle-aged and elderly individuals, impacting shoulder function and stability, and can result from both acute injuries and chronic wear.
  • The review aims to compare surgical and non-surgical treatment options, revealing that while surgery typically yields better long-term outcomes, non-surgical methods like physical therapy can also be effective for smaller tears.
  • Treatment decisions should be personalized, taking into account the tear size, patient demographics, and health status, as surgical options, despite higher upfront costs, often lead to better long-term results.

This paper introduces an innovative, adaptive Fractional Open-Circuit Voltage (FOCV) algorithm combined with a robust Improved Model Reference Adaptive Controller (IMRAC) for Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) in standalone photovoltaic (PV) systems. The proposed two-stage control strategy enhances energy efficiency, simplifies system operation, and addresses limitations in conventional MPPT methods, such as slow convergence, high oscillations, and susceptibility to environmental fluctuations. The first stage dynamically estimates the Maximum Power Point (MPP) voltage using a novel adaptive FOCV method, which eliminates the need for irradiance sensors or physical disconnection of PV modules.
