Recurrent Methotrexate-related Lymphoproliferative Disorder of the Lumbar Spine Origin: A Case Report.

Introduction: Previously, we reported a relatively rare case of methotrexate-related lymphoproliferative disorder (MTX-LPD) that developed in the lumbar spine. At present, we report the follow-up of that case, presenting with relapse of MTX-LPD.

Case Report: The participant was a 75-year-old woman who was diagnosed with MTX-LPD of the lumbar spine and in whom remission was obtained 6 months after discontinuing methotrexate (MTX).

Risk factor of pneumonitis on dose-volume relationship for chemoradiotherapy with durvalumab: Multi-institutional research in Japan.

Objectives: To estimate appropriate dose-volume parameters for avoidance of pneumonitis in use of chemoradiotherapy and durvalumab for treatment of lung cancer.

Materials And Methods: Patients with non-small cell lung cancer treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy followed by durvalumab at 9 centers were enrolled in the study. Three-dimensional radiotherapy, intensity modulated radiotherapy, and proton beam therapy were used.

We aimed to compare the degree of pes planovalgus and muscle mass of the ankle joint and foot muscles between children with Down syndrome (DS) and children with typical development (TD). We also examined the association of the degree of pes planovalgus with muscle mass of the ankle joint and foot muscles in children with DS and children with TD. The subjects were 24 children with TD (control [CTR] group) and 23 children with DS (DS group).

Beneficial effects on kidney during treatment with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors: proposed role of ketone utilization.

Modestly elevated circulating levels of the ketone β-hydroxybutyrate (βOHB) during treatment with sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors cause different beneficial effects on organs and cells, depending on the succinyl-CoA:3-ketoacid CoA transferase (SCOT) level. In the failing heart, SCOT is highly expressed/up-regulated, and thus, βOHB may be an energy source, in addition to fat and glucose oxidation. However, SCOT is not highly expressed/down-regulated in the kidney, and thus, βOHB may cause different beneficial effects, rather than acting as an alternative energy source in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

A population-based study of outcomes in patients with surgically resected non-small cell lung cancer with anaplastic lymphoma kinase-rearranged mutations: A matched-pair study.

The present study aimed to evaluate clinical outcomes in patients with surgically resected non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-rearranged mutations. A matched-pair analysis in completely resected ALK-rearranged NSLC patients and those with neither ALK nor epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations diagnosed at 11 institutes was performed between April 2008 and March 2019. A total of 51 patients with surgically resected ALK-rearranged NSCLC were included.

Changes in vitamin D status considering hemodilution factors in Japanese pregnant women according to trimester: A longitudinal survey.

Objectives: There have been no longitudinal surveys on the changes in 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] while considering hemodilution factors among pregnant Japanese women. Therefore, we examined 25(OH)D levels as well as red blood cell count (RBC), hemoglobin (Hb), and Hematocrit (Hct) at the three trimesters among pregnant Japanese women to determine the distribution of serum 25(OH)D levels and the influence of hemodilution.

Design: This was a longitudinal study.

Materials And Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review from 15 medical institutes that cover a population of three million people from April 2008 to March 2019.

Results: There were 102 patients with uncommon EGFR mutation.

Serum CEA and CYFRA Levels in ALK-rearranged NSCLC Patients: Correlation With Distant Metastasis.

Aim: To clarify the correlation between serum levels of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and cytokeratin 19 fragment (CYFRA) and metastasis and survival in anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-rearranged non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Patients And Methods: CEA and CYFRA levels in 131 ALK-rearranged NSCLC patients were determined using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), real time-reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, and immunohistochemistry, using biopsy specimens, cytology specimens, and plasma specimens. Cut-off value of each marker was determined as 10 ng/ml.

Clinicopathological Features in Elderly ALK-rearranged Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Patients.

Aim: To clarify the clinicopathological features in elderly anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) rearranged non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.

Patients And Methods: A retrospective study was performed in 129 ALK rearranged NSCLC patients diagnosed between April 2008 and March 2019 in fifteen Institutions of the Ibaraki prefecture, Japan.

Results: Median age of patients was 63 years.

Novel mutation identified in infantile spasm syndrome patient.

We report a 7-year-old boy with infantile spasms caused by a novel mutation in the () gene. He showed infantile spasms and hypsarrhythmia on electroencephalogram from early infancy. Brain MRI did not reveal severe malformation of the brain except mild hypoplasia of the corpus callosum.

Background: Stroke mimics (SMs)are medical conditions that are at first considered to be of cerebrovascular etiology but turn out to be a condition other than stroke. This study aimed to evaluate the regular medications prescribed to elderly neurosurgical inpatients in community hospitals in Japan. Elderly patients (aged ≥ 65 years) who had been admitted to neurosurgery departments from April 2015 to March 2017 were enrolled in this study. We collected data on regular medications at the time of admission and discharge.

Background: Despite the fact that multiple screw fixation is a common option of surgical treatment for femoral neck fractures, there is a paucity of precise morphological study of the femoral neck. Rupture of the right upper pulmonary vein and left atrium caused by blunt chest trauma.

A 49-year-old man was transferred to our hospital by ambulance due to blunt chest trauma sustained in a car accident. Echocardiography and enhanced computed tomography showed hemopericardium without other vital organ damage. Emergent surgery was performed under strong suspicion of traumatic cardiac rupture.
