Background: Implementation strategies targeting individual healthcare professionals and teams, such as audit and feedback, educational meetings, opinion leaders, and reminders, have demonstrated potential in promoting evidence-based nursing practice. This systematic review examined the effects of the 19 Cochrane Effective Practice and Organization Care (EPOC) healthcare professional-level implementation strategies on nursing practice and patient outcomes.
Methods: A systematic review was conducted following the Cochrane Handbook, with six databases searched up to February 2023 for randomized studies and non-randomized controlled studies evaluating the effects of EPOC implementation strategies on nursing practice.

Background: While parent-delivered pain management has been demonstrated to effectively reduce neonatal procedural pain responses, little is known about to what extent it is utilized. Our aim was to explore the utilization of parents in neonatal pain management and investigate whether local guidelines promote parent-delivered interventions.
Methods: A web-based survey was distributed to neonatal units worldwide.

Cassie and Friends: A Society for Children with Juvenile Arthritis and other Rheumatic Diseases, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Objective: Although juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is often associated with pain, this experience does not necessitate negative outcomes (eg, depression, functional impairment). Little research has explored youth and parent resilience resources (ie, stable traits) and mechanisms (ie, dynamic processes) in this context, and studies have focused on their contributions independently rather than collectively. This study, informed by the Ecological Resilience-Risk Model in Pediatric Chronic Pain, sought to (1) explore the relationships among youth and parent resilience resources and mechanisms and (2) identify the relative importance (RI; ie, independent contributions when entered simultaneously) of evidence-based youth and parent resources and mechanisms in contributing to youth-reported recovery, sustainability, and growth outcomes.

Introduction: Cannabis products have been used in the management of headaches in adults and may play a role in pediatric chronic pain. Canadian pediatricians report increasing use of cannabis for the management of chronic headaches, despite no well-controlled studies to inform its dosing, safety, and effectiveness. The aim of our clinical trial is to determine the dosing and safety of a Cannabidiol (CBD)-enriched Cannabis Herbal Extract (CHE) for the treatment of chronic headaches in adolescents.

Background: The rate of vitamin D deficiency (VDD) in critically ill children worldwide has been estimated at 50%. These children are at risk of multiple organ dysfunction, chronic morbidity, and decreased health related quality of life (HRQL). Pediatric and adult ICU clinical trials suggest that VDD is associated with worse clinical outcomes, although data from supplementation trials are limited and inconclusive.

Introduction: Vaccination during pregnancy is recommended but uptake is low and evidence on the topic is limited.
Aims: This study aimed to identify the drivers of current behavior and barriers to change for health care practitioners (HCPs) and pregnant patients in Canada.
Methods: This study is an in-depth qualitative investigation of the factors influencing HCPs' vaccination communication during pregnancy, as well as factors influencing pregnant patients' vaccination uptake in Canada using the Theoretical Domains Framework.

Background: Lung edema is a significant factor in prolonged mechanical ventilation and extubation failure after cardiac surgery. This study assessed the predictive capability of point-of-care Lung Ultrasound (LUS) for the duration of mechanical ventilation and extubation failure in infants following cardiac procedures.
Methods: We conducted a prospective observational trial on infants under 1 year, excluding those with pre-existing conditions or requiring extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Evidence for the value of peer support for eating disorders (EDs) is growing. Peer support is not a replacement for treatment, but can provide hope for recovery, enhance motivation for treatment, and increase feelings of connectedness and belonging for those experiencing EDs. In this study, we explored peer mentees' experiences of peer support for EDs to better understand the impact of peer support and its role in the Canadian treatment and support continuum.

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a well-recognized complication in pediatric cancer patients. We aimed to determine the frequency of central venous catheter (CVC) removal and survival impact of children with cancer who develop VTE. After ethics approval, a retrospective population-based study of cancer patients less than 21 years between 2005 and 2020, in the Maritime Provinces Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island was conducted.

Negative symptoms are often found in youth at clinical high risk (CHR) for psychosis. The present study explored the feasibility of using tDCS in conjunction with CBT in the treatment of negative symptoms in 5 youths at CHR. We sought to determine whether the protocol was feasible given the requirement for repeated visits over a three-week period, and to determine if measures of neurobiological change could be included, both acutely and following three weeks of stimulation.

High-pressure processing (HPP) of donor human milk (DM) minimally impacts the concentration and bioactivity of some important bioactive proteins including lactoferrin, and bile salt-stimulated lipase (BSSL) compared to Holder pasteurization (HoP), yet the impact of HPP and subsequent digestion on the full array of proteins detectable by proteomics remains unclear. We investigated how HPP impacts undigested proteins in DM post-processing and across digestion by proteomic analysis. Each pool of milk (n = 3) remained raw, or was treated by HPP (500 MPa, 10 min) or HoP (62.

Background: For many young people, the transition from child to adult mental health services is a vulnerable time associated with treatment disengagement and illness progression. Providing service information and options to youth, appealing to them, and tailoring to their needs during this period could help overcome systematic barriers to a successful transition. We know little about how SMS text message-based interventions might be leveraged to support the motivational, informational, and behavioral needs of youth during this time.

Vaccine Evaluation Center, BC Children's Hospital Research Institute, Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Background: The Canadian National Vaccine Safety (CANVAS) network conducted a multi-center, prospective vaccine safety study to collect safety data after dose 1 and 2 of COVID-19 vaccines and follow up safety information 7 months after dose 1.
Objective: This study aimed to describe and evaluate the recruitment methods used by CANVAS and the retention of participants by each modality.
Methods: CANVAS deployed a multi-pronged recruitment approach to reach a larger sample, without in-person recruitment.

Introduction: In Canada, newborn morbidity far surpasses mortality. The neonatal adverse outcome indicator (NAOI) summarizes neonatal morbidity, but Canadian trend data are lacking.
Methods: This Canada-wide retrospective cross-sectional study included hospital livebirths between 24 and 42 weeks' gestation, from 2013 to 2022.

Background: A mechanical insufflation-exsufflation (MI-E) device is a commonly used tool for airway clearance in children with an ineffective cough. Whereas the device has been shown to have multiple benefits, limited evidence exists regarding parents' experiences with its home use in the Canadian context. This study's objective was to explore the perspectives and experiences of parents who receive service through the IWK Health Centre and use an MI-E device at home with their child.

Introduction: The incidence of varicella in Canada has decreased by almost 99% since vaccination was introduced. However, variation in the timing and eligibility of vaccination programs across the country has resulted in some cohorts being under-vaccinated and therefore potentially susceptible to infection.
Methods: We used nationally representative specimens from the Biobank of Statistics Canada's Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS) as well as residual specimens from Ontario collected between 2009-2014 to estimate population immunity across age-groups and geography, and identify any groups at increased risk of varicella infection.
The objective of this scoping review was to map the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the paternal parenting experience. Studies published between January 2020 and October 2021 reporting on paternal mental health, interparental relations, and child interactions were eligible. Forty studies from 17 different countries were included.
