Infertility affects 10-15% of couples worldwide, with male factors accounting for half of cases. Environmental, behavioral, and genetic problems contribute to spermatogenic failure in 30% of idiopathic male infertility cases. Other factors, such as oxidative stress (OS), cause impaired spermatogenesis, abnormal sperm morphology, and reduced motility, eventually triggering male infertility.

Flexibility has been a key selling point in the development of carbon-based electronics and sensors with the promise of further development into wearable devices. Semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) lend themselves well to applications requiring flexibility while achieving high-performance. Our previous work has demonstrated a tri-layer polymer dielectric composed of poly(lactic acid) (PLA), poly(vinyl alcohol) with cellulose nanocrystals (PVAc), and toluene diisocyanate-terminated poly(caprolactone) (TPCL), yielding an environmentally benign and solution-processable n-type thin-film transistor (TFT).

Immunoprecipitation coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (IP-MS/MS) methods are often used to identify protein-protein interactions (PPIs). While these approaches are prone to false positive identifications through contamination and antibody nonspecific binding, their results can be filtered using negative controls and computational modeling. However, such filtering does not effectively detect false-positive interactions when IP-MS/MS is performed on human plasma samples.

The use of Raman spectroscopy, particularly surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS), offers a powerful tool for analyzing biochemical changes in biofluids. This study aims to assess the modifications occurring in saliva collected from patients before and after exposure to cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and computed tomography (CT) imaging. SERS analysis revealed significantly amplified spectra in post-imaging samples compared to pre-imaging samples, with pronounced intensification of thiocyanate and opiorphin bands, which, together with proteins, dominated the spectra.

Background/objectives: Pasireotide (PAS) is a somatostatin receptor ligand (SRL) used to treat acromegaly, a chronic condition caused by excess growth hormone. While it offers significant benefits as a second-line treatment for uncontrolled acromegaly, its use raises major concerns due to hyperglycemic side effects and gastrointestinal issues, the latter being similar to those seen with first-generation SRLs. The aim of this study is to evaluate the real-world evidence on adverse drug reactions (ADRs) reported for PAS in the EudraVigilance database, in comparison to other established drug-based therapies for acromegaly.

In studies of individuals of primarily European genetic ancestry, common and low-frequency variants and rare coding variants have been found to be associated with the risk of bipolar disorder (BD) and schizophrenia (SZ). However, less is known for individuals of other genetic ancestries or the role of rare non-coding variants in BD and SZ risk. We performed whole genome sequencing of African American individuals: 1,598 with BD, 3,295 with SZ, and 2,651 unaffected controls (InPSYght study).

This study aimed to assess the influence of different types of blue light sources on male and female rats' puberty onset, the morphologic-induced alterations in reproductive organs tissues, the impact on inflammation and oxidative stress markers, anxiety levels, and mathematical modeling for tissue data interpretation. Four groups of sixteen rats each (8 females and 8 males/group) were investigated: three groups were exposed to blue light from mobile phones (MP), computer screens (PC), or LED lamps (LED) versus the control group (CTRL). The rats in the CTRL group had no exposure while the other groups were exposed for 30 days to the blue light of MP, PC, and LED for 16 h per day.

Neoplastic transformation of B cells of the post-germinative center can lead to oncohematological dyscrasias, which often results in an abnormal production of monoclonal immunoglobulin light chains. The non-physiological production of large amounts of IgG light chains leads to the formation of extracellular deposits called 'aggregomas' and rare conditions such as light chain crystal deposition disease. Kidney manifestations and heavy-chain deposition disease can also occur in plasma cell dyscrasias, emphasizing the role of IgG misfolding and aggregation.

Introduction: Lower limb length discrepancy (LLD) following hip arthroplasty after proximal femoral fracture (PFFA) is little studied. The aim of this work was to answer the following questions: 1) What are the incidence and mean values of LLD after PFFA? 2) What are the clinical consequences (tolerance) of LLD after PFFA? 3) Can we identify risk factors for LLD after PFFA? 4) Is there a significant difference in terms of LLD after PFFA to treat intra- versus extra-capsular fractures?
Hypothesis: LLD after proximal femoral fracture arthroplasty is rare but has good clinical tolerance, given the low functional demands of the patients.
Patients And Methods: This is a multicenter prospective observational cohort study (15 centers), including 590 patients, operated on for hip arthroplasty for proximal femur fracture between May 2022 and June 2023.

Developing sustainable electronics requires using materials that are either recyclable or biodegradable, without compromising on electrical performance. Here, we introduce a solution-processed biodegradable polymer blend consisting of a diketopyrrolopyrrole-based semiconducting polymer (DPP2T) and different mixtures of two biodegradable polymers, polycaprolactone (PCL) and polylactic acid (PLA). We find that controlling the ratio of components enables a reduction in semiconductor polymer loading (∼70:80% reduction) while maintaining or improving field-effect transistor performance.

Simplified quantum chemistry (sQC) methods can routinely compute excited states for very large systems in an "all-atom" fashion. They are viable alternatives to regular multiscale schemes. sQC methods have the advantage of accounting explicitly for all of the environment at a quantum mechanical (QM) level.

This study investigates the electrospinning and rheological properties of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with varying degrees of hydrolysis (DH) for molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) incorporation. The morphology and properties of the electrospun nanofibers were evaluated, revealing that PVA nanofibers exhibited smoother and more uniform structures compared to PET fibers. The rheological behavior of the polymer solutions was also characterized, showing that PVA 99 DH solution exhibited shear-thinning behavior due to the unique structural properties of the polymer chains.

Calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD) resulting in aortic stenosis (AS) is the most common form of valvular heart disease, affecting 2% of those over age 65. Those who develop symptomatic severe AS have an average further lifespan of <2 years without valve replacement, and three-quarters of these patients will develop heart failure, undergo valve replacement, or die within 5 years. There are no approved pharmaceutical therapies for AS, due primarily to a limited understanding of the molecular mechanisms that direct CAVD progression in the complex haemodynamic environment.
