Sarcoidosis is a multisystem disease usually affecting the chest, hilar lymph nodes, and lungs, but can potentially involve any organ; therefore, its clinical presentation may vary. Hepatobiliary involvement is rare, and typically asymptomatic; however, it can lead to cirrhosis, and may require liver transplantation. In this report, we present a rare case of a patient affected by sarcoidosis with hepatobiliary involvement.

Abnormal Circulating Maternal miRNA Expression Is Associated with a Low (<4%) Cell-Free DNA Fetal Fraction.

Diagnostics (Basel)

November 2021

Division of Obstetrics and Prenatal Medicine, Department of Medicine and Surgery (DIMEC), IRCCS Sant'Orsola-Malpighi Hospital, University of Bologna, 40138 Bologna, Italy.

The present pilot study investigates whether an abnormal miRNA profile in NIPT plasma samples can explain the finding of a low cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fetal fraction (cfDNAff) in euploid fetuses and non-obese women. Twelve women who underwent neoBona NIPT with a normal fetal karyotype were studied. Six with a cfDNAff < 4% were matched with a control group with normal levels of cfDNAff > 4%.

Multi-Staged Endovascular Repair of Thoracoabdominal Aneurysms by Fenestrated and Branched Endografts.

Ann Vasc Surg

April 2022

Vascular Surgery, Department of Experimental, Diagnostic and Specialty Medicine, University of Bologna, IRCCS Sant'Orsola-Malpighi Hospital, Bologna, Italy.

Background: To report outcomes of a multi-staged approach for endovascular repair of thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms (TAAAs) by fenestrated/branched endografting (F/B-EVAR).

Methods: Between 2010 and 2020 (June), patients undergoing F/B-EVAR for TAAAs were collected. Data of cases managed by a multi-staged approach, to reduce the incidence of spinal cord ischemia (SCI), were retrospectively analyzed and reported in a cohort study.

Prenatal Noninvasive Trio-WES in a Case of Pregnancy-Related Liver Disorder.

Diagnostics (Basel)

October 2021

Medical Genetics Unit, Department of Medical Sciences and Public Health, University of Cagliari, 09126 Cagliari, Italy.

Liver disease in pregnancy may present as an acute condition related to the gestational period, characterized by pruritus, jaundice, and abnormal liver function. The disease may be misdiagnosed with other liver diseases, some of which may have consequences for fetal health. It is therefore advisable to implement rapid diagnostic strategies to provide information for the management of pregnancy in these conditions.

Context: Congenital lung malformation (CLM) is a rare developmental anomaly of the lower respiratory tract. The purposes are to define if the presence of respiratory symptoms, in CLM may affect surgical outcomes and to define optimal timing for surgery in asymptomatic patients.

Settings And Design: Retrospective review of patients with CLM from 2004 to 2018.

Background: There is mounting evidence on the existence of a Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome-temporally associated to SARS-CoV-2 infection (PIMS-TS), sharing similarities with Kawasaki Disease (KD). The main outcome of the study were to better characterize the clinical features and the treatment response of PIMS-TS and to explore its relationship with KD determining whether KD and PIMS are two distinct entities.

Methods: The Rheumatology Study Group of the Italian Pediatric Society launched a survey to enroll patients diagnosed with KD (Kawasaki Disease Group - KDG) or KD-like (Kawacovid Group - KCG) disease between February 1st 2020, and May 31st 2020.

There is no univocal consensus about timing of intervention and best surgical approach for infants with asymptomatic uretero-pelvic junction obstruction (UPJO). We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients undergoing one-trocar-assisted pyeloplasty (OTAP) in a 13 year range period by creating two homogenous groups (indications for surgery were the same for all patients): patients operated on in the first 90 days of life (34 patients; Group 1) and patients operated on between 3 and 12 months of life (34 patients; Group 2). We observed no statistically significant differences between groups in regard to mean operative time, conversion rate to open surgery, mean hospital stay, early complications (urinary leakage) rate and mean antero-posterior diameter (APD) reduction rate.
