Background: Lung cancer is an oncological threat worldwide, including in Italy. New organizational approaches based on a network of cancer centers and multidisciplinary and technological innovation are required. The experience in the Liguria region, in northwestern Italy, in the management of lung cancer is presented with a focus on the organizational model.

Long-Term Effectiveness and Safety of Ustekinumab in Crohn's Disease: Results from a Large Real-Life Cohort Study.

Ustekinumab (UST) is an interleukin-12/interleukin-23 receptor antagonist approved for the treatment of Crohn's disease (CD). Only limited real-life data on the long-term outcomes of CD patients treated with UST are available. This study assessed UST's long-term effectiveness and safety in a large population-based cohort of moderate to severe CD patients.

Intensive FVIII replacement in hemophilia patients with hypertrophic synovium: a randomized study.

Background: Hypertrophic synovium (HS) is a marker of disease activity in persons with hemophilia (PwH). Although some recommendations suggest intensifying prophylaxis in PwH with HS, no validated schedules are available.

Objectives: We explored the efficacy of intensive factor VIII (FVIII) replacement treatment in PwH with HS.

Background: Immune dysregulation and SARS-CoV-2 plasma viremia have been implicated in fatal COVID-19 disease. However, how these two factors interact to shape disease outcomes is unclear.

Methods: We carried out viral and immunological phenotyping on a prospective cohort of 280 patients with COVID-19 presenting to acute care hospitals in Boston, Massachusetts and Genoa, Italy between June 1, 2020 and February 8, 2022.

Background And Purpose: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is perceived differently by patients and physicians, complicating its assessment. Current recommendations advocate combining clinical and patient-reported outcomes measures, but this approach can be challenging in patient care. This multicenter European study aims to bridge the gap between patients' perceptions and neurological impairments by aligning both perspectives to improve treatment decision-making.

Efficacy of autologous micrografts technology: a promising approach for chronic wound healing and tissue regeneration-a pilot study.

Introduction: This study explores the efficacy of Autologous Micrografts Technology (AMG) in treating chronic wounds refractory to traditional therapies.

Methods: AMGs, derived from adipose tissue or dermis using a mechanical fragmentation process, were applied to patients with post-surgical dehiscence. A comprehensive evaluation of wound healing outcomes, including surface area reduction and complete healing, was conducted over a 90-day follow-up period.

Ospemifene and vulvovaginal atrophy: an update of the clinical profile for post-menopausal women.

Introduction: The demand for effective and safe treatments of genitourinary syndrome (GSM) in post-menopausal women (PMW) is growing. Published data on the efficacy and safety of ospemifene (OSP) prompt an updated literature review to enlighten possible improvements in the GSM treatment.

Area Covered: We searched articles published in English from 2010 to 2023 through Medline (PubMed) and Embase databases with Boolean terms: OSP, PMW, GSM, endometrium, breast cancer, cardiometabolic syndrome, bone metabolism, adherence to treatment, and patient satisfaction.

Direct Oral Anticoagulants and Concomitant Anti-seizure Medications: A Retrospective, Case-Control Study in a Real-World Setting.

Purpose: Although prescription of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) for epileptic patients on anti-seizure medications (ASMs) is on the increase, international guidelines pose strict restrictions because this may lead to pharmacologic interactions. However, current evidence on their clinical relevance remains scanty. This retrospective, case-control study assessed the frequency of ischemic/hemorrhagic events and epileptic seizures involving DOAC-ASM cotherapy in the real world, compared with DOAC and ASM monotherapy, in age- and gender-matched controls.

Tacrolimus versus cyclosporine a combined with post-transplantation cyclophosphamide for AML In first complete remission: a study from the acute leukemia working party (EBMT).

Choice of calcineurin inhibitor may impact the outcome of patients undergoing T-cell replete hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) with post-transplant cyclophosphamide (PT-Cy) and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) for prophylaxis of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). We retrospectively analyzed 2427 patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in first remission transplanted from a haploidentical (n = 1844) or unrelated donor (UD, n = 583) using cyclosporine A (CSA, 63%) or tacrolimus (TAC, 37%) and PT-Cy/MMF. In univariate analysis, CSA and TAC groups did not differ in 2-year leukemia-free or overall survival, cumulative incidence (CI) of relapse or non-relapse mortality.

Fluorescence-guided laparoscopic lymph node biopsy for lymphoma: the FLABILY study.

To date, no reports have indicated laparoscopic lymph node biopsies using Indocyanine green (ICG) in cases of lymphoproliferative disease. Preliminary data of patients undergoing fluorescence-guided laparoscopic lymph node biopsy (FGLLB) using ICG was retrospectively analysed from the multicentre registry FLABILY study. Between June 2022 and February 2024, 50 patients underwent FGLLB.

Long-term follow-up of VIALE-A: Venetoclax and azacitidine in chemotherapy-ineligible untreated acute myeloid leukemia.

Venetoclax-azacitidine is approved for treatment of patients with newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) ineligible for intensive chemotherapy based on the interim overall survival (OS) analysis of the VIALE-A study (NCT02993523). Here, long-term follow-up is presented to address survival benefit and long-term outcomes with venetoclax-azacitidine. Patients with newly diagnosed AML who were ineligible for intensive chemotherapy were randomized 2:1 to receive venetoclax-azacitidine or placebo-azacitidine.

Real-life experience with dimethylfumarate in palmoplantar psoriasis: A multicentre retrospective Italian study.

Stem cells treatment in chronic ischemic heart disease: a narrative review.

Chronic ischemic heart disease remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Several trials have been performed to evaluate benefit of stem cells transplantation to restore cardiac function in short- and long-term period after myocardial infarction. This narrative review analyzes 24 clinical trials between 2005 and 2023 comprising 1824 patients with chronic heart disease without heart failure.

An Internet- and Kinect-Based Multiple Sclerosis Fitness Intervention Training With Pilates Exercises: Development and Usability Study.

Background: Balance impairments are common in people with multiple sclerosis (MS), with reduced ability to maintain position and delayed responses to postural adjustments. Pilates is a popular alternative method for balance training that may reduce the rapid worsening of symptoms and the increased risk of secondary conditions (eg, depression) that are frequently associated with physical inactivity.

Objective: In this paper, we aimed to describe the design, development, and usability testing of MS Fitness Intervention Training (MS-FIT), a Kinect-based tool implementing Pilates exercises customized for MS.

The role of the amygdala in ictal central apnea: insights from brain MRI morphometry.

Objective: Ictal central apnea (ICA) is a frequent correlate of focal seizures, particularly in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), and regarded as a potential electroclinical biomarker of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). Aims of this study are to investigate morphometric changes of subcortical structures in ICA patients and to find neuroimaging biomarkers of ICA in patients with focal epilepsy.

Methods: We prospectively recruited focal epilepsy patients with recorded seizures during a video-EEG long-term monitoring with cardiorespiratory polygraphic recordings from April 2020 to September 2022.

New clinical application of indocyanine green in fluorescence-guided laparoscopic lymph-node biopsy in case of lymphoma. Preliminary results on a case series.

Background: Indocyanine Green (ICG) fluorescence-guided surgery is widely used for intraoperative visualization of lymphatic structures. To date, there are no reports indicating this dye being used in lymph node biopsies for suspected or relapsed lymphoma.

Methods: Between October 2021 and June 2022, 12 patients underwent a fluorescence-guided laparoscopic lymph node biopsy (FGLLB) using ICG.

What is the best treatment strategy before autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation in POEMS syndrome?

Autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (aPBSCT) provides optimal outcomes in POEMS syndrome but the definition of the best treatment before aPBSCT remains to be defined because of the rarity of the disease and the heterogeneity of published case series. We collected clinical and laboratory data of patients with POEMS syndrome undergoing aPBSCT from 1998 to 2020 in ten Italian centers. The primary endpoint of the study was to evaluate the impact of prior therapies and mobilization regimen on outcome.
