Toxocariasis is a zoonosis transmitted by the nematode spp. Immunocompromised hosts are more susceptible than general population to bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic infections. In this population toxocariasis may present as exacerbation or reactivation and could have severe or atypical manifestations being a diagnostic challenge for healthcare providers.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) has emerged as the most common chronic liver disease globally, affecting more than a third of the world's adult population. This comprehensive narrative review summarizes the global incidence and prevalence rates of MASLD and its related adverse hepatic and extrahepatic outcomes. We also discuss the substantial economic burden of MASLD on healthcare systems, thus further highlighting the urgent need for global efforts to tackle this common and burdensome liver condition.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is an emerging risk factor for chronic kidney disease (CKD). N-terminal propeptide of collagen type 3 (PRO-C3) is a biomarker of advanced fibrosis in MAFLD and PRO-C3 may be involved in renal fibrosis. We aimed to use PRO-C3 measurements to generate a new algorithmic score to test the prediction of MAFLD with chronic kidney disease (MAFLD-CKD).

Hepatosplenic schistosomiasis is a complex clinical condition caused by the complications of chronic infection with Schistosoma species that cause intestinal schistosomiasis. Hepatosplenic schistosomiasis derives from the fibrotic reaction stimulated around parasite eggs that are transported by the mesenteric circulation to the liver, causing periportal fibrosis. Portal hypertension and variceal gastrointestinal bleeding are major complications of hepatosplenic schistosomiasis.

Study Objective: To evaluate recurrence rate and pattern in apparently early-stage endometrial cancer (EC) treated with minimally invasive surgery (MIS) and compare it to the "historical" populations treated by laparotomy. Secondary outcomes were to establish if, among MIS recurrent patients, intermediate-high/high-risk patients presented the same recurrence pattern compared to those at low/intermediate-risk and to evaluate time to first recurrence (TTR) of the study population.
Design: Multicenter retrospective observational study.

To study the long-term outcomes of standard ILM peeling and fovea sparing with inverted flap (FSIF) peeling for symptomatic myopic foveoschisis (MF). This retrospective observational study included 36 eyes of 34 consecutive patients who underwent vitrectomy with standard ILM peeling and FSIF peeling for MF between April 2012 and march 2020. The primary outcome measures included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central foveal thickness (CFT) at 1 month and final visit and postoperative development of macular hole.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of metastases-directed stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in men with oligometastatic prostate cancer (PCa) using real-world data from the OligoCare cohort.
Materials And Methods: OligoCare is a pragmatic, observational cohort designed to assess the impact of metastases-directed SBRT on patients with oligometastatic disease (OMD). We report an interim analyses of the secondary endpoint HRQoL, assessed using the EORTC QLQ-C30, within six months of metastases-directed SBRT for oligometastatic disease in men with PCa among the first 1600 registered patients.

Background: Public health measures for COVID-19 mitigation influenced the circulation of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) during the 2020-2021 winter season. In the following autumn, an unprecedented resurgence of RSV occurred. Our study monitored RSV pediatric infections one and two years after the relaxation of containment measures for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Toscana virus (TOSV), a sandfly-borne virus, is an important etiological agent in human acute meningitis and meningoencephalitis in the Mediterranean area during the summer. However, the actual number of TOSV infections is underestimated. Laboratory confirmation is necessary because TOSV infection has overlapping clinical features with other neuro-invasive viral infections.

Technological advances in radiation oncology are oriented towards improving treatment precision and tumor control. Among these advances, magnetic-resonance-image-guided radiation therapy (MRgRT) stands out, with technological advances to deliver targeted treatments adapted to a tumor's anatomy on the day while minimizing incidental exposure to organs at risk, offering an unprecedented therapeutic advantage compared to X-ray-based IGRT delivery systems. This new technology changes the traditional workflow in radiation oncology and requires an evolution in team coordination to administer more precise treatments.

This narrative review aims to illustrate the notion that nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), recently renamed metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), is a systemic metabolic disorder featuring both adverse hepatic and extrahepatic outcomes. In recent years, several NASH trials have failed to identify effective pharmacological treatments and, therefore, lifestyle changes are the cornerstone of therapy for NASH. with this context, we analyze the epidemiological burden of NASH and the possible pathogenetic factors involved.

Background: Systemic chronic inflammation plays a role in the pathophysiology of both heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease. This study aimed to investigate whether serum hs-CRP (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein) levels were associated with the future risk of heart failure (HF) hospitalization in patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease and a normal left ventricular ejection fraction.
Methods And Results: The study enrolled consecutive individuals with metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease and normal left ventricular ejection fraction who underwent coronary angiography for suspected coronary heart disease.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has rapidly become the most common chronic liver disease globally and is currently estimated to affect up to 38% of the global adult population. NAFLD is a multisystem disease where systemic insulin resistance and related metabolic dysfunction play a pathogenic role in the development of NAFLD and its most relevant liver-related morbidities (cirrhosis, liver failure and hepatocellular carcinoma) and extrahepatic complications, such as cardiovascular disease (CVD), type 2 diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, and certain types of extrahepatic cancers. In 2023, three large multinational liver associations proposed that metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) should replace the term NAFLD; the name chosen to replace non-alcoholic steatohepatitis was metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH).

Background: A mismatch between myocardial oxygen supply and demand is the most common cause of ischemic myocardial injury in older persons. The subendocardial viability ratio (SEVR) can usefully estimate the degree of myocardial perfusion relative to left-ventricular workload. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the ability of SEVR to predict long-term mortality in the older population.
