In cancer, a patient is considered a survivor from the time of initial diagnosis until the end of life. With improvements in early diagnosis and treatment, the number of cancer survivors (CS) has grown considerably and includes: (1) Patients cured and free from cancer who may be at risk of late-onset cancer therapy-related cardiovascular toxicity (CTR-CVT); (2) Patients with long-term control of not-curable cancers in whom CTR-CVT may need to be addressed. This paper highlights the importance of the cancer care continuum, of a patient-centered approach and of a prevention-oriented policy.

Whole brain reirradiation for the treatment of multiple brain metastases has shown promising results. However, concerns remain over the possible neurotoxic effects of the cumulative dose as well as the questionable radiosensitivity of recurrent metastases. Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) are a group of disease entities sharing common morphological, ultrastructural and immunophenotypical features, yet with distinct biological behavior and clinical outcome, ranging from benign to frankly malignant. Accordingly, a spectrum of therapeutic options for each single entity is available, including somatostatin analogues (SSA), mTOR-inhibitors, peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT), non-platinum and platinum chemotherapy. In the last few decades, several attempts have been made to better stratify these lesions refining the pathological classifications, so as to obtain an optimal correspondence between the scientific terminology and, the predictive and prognostic features of each disease subtype, and achieve a global Classification encompassing NENs arising at different anatomical sites.

High rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms have been found among patients with more severe COVID-19-related symptoms, and hospitalization is generally recognized as a risk factor for developing PTSD. Furthermore, other personality characteristics may increase the risk of developing post-traumatic stress symptoms following a COVID-19 infection. This study aimed to assess personality traits, alexithymia, dissociation, anxiety, and depression in patients who have recovered from COVID-19 and the impact of these variables on the presence of post-traumatic stress symptoms.

Gastrointestinal stromal tumours that are wild type for KIT and PDGFRA are referred to as WT GISTs. Of these tumours, SDH-deficient (characterized by the loss of SDHB) and quadruple WT GIST (KIT/PDGFRA/SDH/RAS-P WT) subgroups were reported to display a marked overexpression of FGF4, identifying a putative common therapeutic target for the first time. In SDH-deficient GISTs, methylation of an FGF insulator region was found to be responsible for the induction of FGF4 expression.

ABCC6, belonging to sub-family C of ATP-binding cassette transporter, is an ATP-dependent transporter mainly present in the basolateral plasma membrane of hepatic and kidney cells. Although the substrates transported are still uncertain, ABCC6 has been shown to promote ATP release. The extracellular ATP and its derivatives di- and mono-nucleotides and adenosine by acting on specific receptors activate the so-called purinergic pathway, which in turn controls relevant cellular functions such as cell immunity, inflammation, and cancer.

Background: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) is a curative therapeutic approach for different hematological malignancies (HMs), and epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation, play a role in the reconstitution of the hematopoietic system after AHSCT. This study aimed to explore global DNA methylation dynamic of bone marrow (BM) hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) from donors and their respective recipients affected by acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL) and Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) during the first year after transplant.
Methods: We measured DNA methylation profile by Illumina HumanMethylationEPIC in BM HSPC of 10 donors (t0) and their matched recipients at different time points after AHSCT, at day + 30 (t1), + 60 (t2), + 120 (t3), + 180 (t4), and + 365 (t5).

Gastric cancer (GC) is characterized by poor efficacy and the modest clinical impact of current therapies. Apoptosis evasion represents a causative factor for treatment failure in GC as in other cancers. Since intracellular calcium homeostasis regulation has been found to be associated with apoptosis resistance, the aberrant expression of intracellular calcium regulator genes (CaRGs) could have a prognostic value in GC patients.

The bone marrow (BM) microenvironment in hematological malignancies (HMs) comprises heterogeneous populations of neoplastic and nonneoplastic cells. Cancer stem cells (CSCs), neoplastic cells, hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs), and mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) are all components of this microenvironment. CSCs are the HM initiators and are associated with neoplastic growth and drug resistance, while HSCs are able to reconstitute the entire hematopoietic system; finally, MSCs actively support hematopoiesis.

Smenamides are an intriguing class of peptide/polyketide molecules of marine origin showing antiproliferative activity against lung cancer Calu-1 cells at nanomolar concentrations through a clear pro-apoptotic mechanism. To probe the role of the activity-determining structural features, the 16--analogue of smenamide A and eight simplified analogues in the 16- series were prepared using a flexible synthetic route. The synthetic analogues were tested on multiple myeloma (MM) cell lines showing that the configuration at C-16 slightly affects the activity, since the 16--derivative is still active at nanomolar concentrations.

CD200, a transmembrane type Ia glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily, has been shown to have a differential expression in B-cell neoplasms. Here, we retrospectively assessed the diagnostic relevance of CD200 on 427 patients with B-cell chronic neoplasms in leukemic phase (median age, 69 y; range, 35-97 y). The final diagnosis based on the investigator's assessment was chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) in 75% of cases and non-CLL in 25% of cases.
