Diazepam, a widely prescribed benzodiazepine, is frequently used for the management of alcohol withdrawal syndrome, anxiety, seizures, and muscle spasms. Its monitoring is critical due to its potential for abuse and the therapeutic importance of its metabolite nordiazepam. A sustainable and environmentally friendly high-performance liquid chromatography method was developed and validated for the quantification of diazepam and its active metabolite nordiazepam in human plasma samples.

This study aims to determine the necessary preventive measures from the perspective of primary care by examining the demographic characteristics and initial diagnoses of patients who were evaluated by an ophthalmologist following an emergency consultation request. Individuals over the age of 18 who had complete data and were referred for ophthalmic consultation from the emergency department within in 2022 were included in the study. The study retrospectively reviewed the patients' age, gender, diagnoses, status of ophthalmic consultation, whether a forensic report was prepared, and the outcomes of follow-up, hospitalization, or discharge.

Concerns about the appearance of teeth and mouth, which play a key role in communication and first impressions, are natural to some extent. However, excessive concern over these areas should raise suspicion of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD). The use of a validated and standardized screening tool in dental settings may improve the identification of BDD.

Regulation of mitochondrial Ca uptake is critical in cardiac adaptation to chronic stressors. Abnormalities in Ca handling, including mitochondrial uptake mechanisms, have been implicated in pathological heart hypertrophy. Enhancing mitochondrial Ca uniporter (MCU) expression has been suggested to interfere with maladaptive development of heart failure.

Given the evolving nature of COVID-19, capturing the totality of scientific evidence from clinical trials and observational studies is critical to inform clinical decision making. We conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) with meta-analysis (MA) to summarize RDV effectiveness among hospitalized adults.

Purpose: This review systematically compared, in a head-to-head manner, the diagnostic and prognostic performance of [F]FDG and [F]FES PET/CT in breast cancer (BC) patients.
Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases up to January 2025, without temporal limitations or restrictions on the number of patients in the included studies, to identify relevant articles comparing the diagnostic value of [F]FDG and [F]FES PET in BC patients. Selected imaging studies were analyzed using a modified version of the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme checklist dedicated to systematic reviews.
Purpose: Endoscopic transorbital skull base approaches are always challenging and require good anatomical knowledge. The aim of this study was to describe the anatomical pathways of endoscopic transorbital approaches and to determine the limitations of these procedures. To evaluate the feasibility of the tubular retractor and the difference with manual retractor.

Background: Glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is a well-established marker for glycemic control; recent studies suggest its potential role in cancer prognosis. Understanding the relationship between preoperative HbA1c levels and lymph node metastasis (LNM) in diabetic women with endometrial cancer (EC) can enhance prognostic assessments and treatment strategies.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of preoperative HbA1c levels for LNM in diabetic women with EC.

Introduction/aims: Prolonged distal median motor latency (DML) may occur in carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), potentially causing an electrodiagnostic dilemma in acquired demyelinating polyneuropathies. We aimed to demonstrate that parameter values obtained from conventional median nerve conduction studies can distinguish immune-mediated demyelination from compression-induced damage.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the median nerve records of 73 control individuals, 125 patients with pure CTS, 31 with CTS and diabetic distal symmetric polyneuropathy, 36 with acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, and 23 with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy.

Recent studies indicate children who are deaf and hard of hearing who use cochlear implants or hearing aids know fewer spoken words than their peers with typical hearing, and often those vocabularies differ in composition. To date, however, the interaction of a child's auditory profile with the lexical characteristics of words he or she knows has been minimally explored. The purpose of the present study is to evaluate how audiological history, phonological memory, and overall vocabulary knowledge interact with growth in types of spoken words known by children who are deaf and hard of hearing compared to children with typical hearing.

Of particular interest is the connection between lipid metabolism and the retinoic-acid-related orphan receptor (RORC1/RORγ), whose transcriptional activity modulates cancer-related emergency myelopoiesis and is boosted by cholesterol metabolites, while hypercholesterolemia itself is associated with dysregulated myelopoiesis. Here, we show that cancer and hypercholesterolemic diet independently or cooperatively activate RORγ-dependent expansion of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) and M2-polarized tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), supporting cancer spread.

Background: The association of different sensory inputs enhances brain plasticity in patients after stroke, but no studies have associated Action Observation Training (AOT) delivered in immersive virtual reality (VR) with Focal Vibration (FV) to elicit a kinesthetic illusion coherent with the observed task to improve motor function.
Objective: The study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of AOT delivered in immersive VR integrated with FV of upper limb muscles on manual dexterity in patients with chronic stroke.
Methods: A single-subject study was conducted (A-B design).

Background: Socioeconomic status and geographical location contribute to disparities in localized prostate cancer (PCa) treatment. We examined the impact of area of deprivation index (ADI) on initial treatment type for localized PCa in a North-American cohort.
Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of patients diagnosed with localized PCa, treated within Henry Ford Health (HFH), between 1995 and 2022, with available ADI-data.

Background And Aims: Over 10% of patients with Crohn's disease require permanent ileostomy. We aimed to summarize the existing data on diagnosis, definitions of recurrence, and management of Crohn's disease patients with permanent ileostomy.
Methods: MEDLINE, Embase, and CENTRAL databases were searched from inception to February 6, 2024.
Background And Objective: Prostate cancer (PCa) is a significant global health concern, ranking as the second most prevalent cancer among men worldwide. Genetic factors, particularly germline pathogenic variants (PVs) in DNA repair genes (DRGs), play a crucial role in PCa predisposition. Our study aimed to assess patients' adherence to a targeted PCa screening program targeting high-risk individuals with DRG PVs and evaluate the potential reduction in biopsy and MRI rates by employing our screening protocol.

Background And Purpose: There is a current need to understand the efficacy and quality of life (QoL) outcomes of vagus nerve stimulation (VNS). Identifying patients most likely to benefit from VNS could aid in their selection, reduce side effects, and improve outcomes. Here we studied clinical and QoL outcomes after VNS in patients with drug-resistant epilepsy and attempted to identify response predictors.
