Little is known about how to develop public health workforce capacity for health equity work. We explored associations of individual and organizational characteristics of local public health departments (LHDs) with competencies essential for advancing health equity. Data included responses of 29,751 staff from 742 LHDs in 48 states to the 2021 Public Health Workforce Interests and Needs Survey, plus LHD characteristics and county demographics.

Colic and diarrhea are common gastrointestinal (GI) disorders in captive Asian elephants, which can severely impact health and lead to mortality. Gut dysbiosis, indicated by alterations in gut microbiome composition, can be observed in individuals with GI disorders. However, changes in gut microbial profiles of elephants with GI disorders have never been investigated.

Objective: The global prevalence of nontuberculous mycobacterial pulmonary disease (NTM-PD) has been steadily increasing. A few small retrospective studies have reported a poor prognosis associated with chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) as a complication of NTM-PD. Furthermore, the prognostic impact of CPA may have been inadequately assessed due to differences in background factors.

Background: Simulated microgravity environment can lead to gastrointestinal motility disturbance. The pathogenesis of gastrointestinal motility disorders is closely related to the stem cell factor (SCF)/c-kit signaling pathway associated with intestinal flora and Cajal stromal cells. Moreover, intestinal flora can also affect the regulation of SCF/c-kit signaling pathway, thus affecting the expression of Cajal stromal cells.

The complex of neurovascular structures surrounding the coracoid process, particularly the axillary artery, the thoracoacromial artery and theirs branches, plays a critical role in shoulder function. Detailed dissection was performed in 36 shoulders from 18 embalmed cadavers. The focus was on axillary artery branches in relation to the coracoid process and the documentation of anatomical variations in this area.

Inappropriate, excessive, or overly strenuous training of sport horses can result in long-term injury, including the premature cessation of a horse's sporting career. As a countermeasure, this study demonstrates the easy implementation of a biomechanical load monitoring system consisting of five commercial, multi-purpose inertial sensor units non-invasively attached to the horse's distal limbs and trunk. From the data obtained, specific parameters for evaluating gait and limb loads are derived, providing the basis for objective exercise load management and successful injury prevention.

Within the domain of traditional art, Chinese Wuhu Iron Painting distinguishes itself through its distinctive craftsmanship, aesthetic expressiveness, and choice of materials, presenting a formidable challenge in the arena of stylistic transformation. This paper introduces an innovative Hierarchical Visual Transformer (HVT) framework aimed at achieving effectiveness and precision in the style transfer of Wuhu Iron Paintings. The study begins with an in-depth analysis of the artistic style of Wuhu Iron Paintings, extracting key stylistic elements that meet technical requirements for style conversion.

In Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy micro-machining, since the uncut chip thickness (UCT) is comparable to the radius of the tool cutting edge, there exists a minimum uncut chip thickness (MUCT), and when the UCT is smaller than the MUCT, the plowing effect dominates the cutting process, which seriously affects the machined surface quality and tool life. Therefore, the reliable prediction of the MUCT is of great significance. This paper used Deform to establish an orthogonal cutting simulation model, studied the effect of the dead metal zone (DMZ) on the micro-cutting material flow, determined the DMZ range, and proposed a new method for determining the MUCT based on the DMZ.

Research into the mechanisms by which gravity influences spermatozoa has implications for maintaining the species in deep space exploration and may provide new approaches to reproductive technologies on Earth. Changes in the speed of mouse spermatozoa after 30 min exposure to simulated weightlessness (by 3D-clinostat) and 2 g hypergravity (by centrifugation) were studied using inhibitory analysis. Simulated microgravity after 30 min led to an increase in the speed of spermatozoa and against the background of an increase in the relative calcium content in the cytoplasm.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, characterized by its aggressive nature and heterogeneity. Despite significant advances in understanding DLBCL pathogenesis, there is still a need to elucidate the intricate mechanisms involved in disease progression and identify novel therapeutic targets. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), including exosomes and microvesicles, have emerged as crucial mediators of intercellular communication in various physiological and pathological processes, including cancer.

Homelessness is associated with accelerated disease progression, and housing placements are less likely when experiencing serious illness. Little research to date has focused on how to successfully secure housing placement during serious illness and end of life. This study aimed to address this gap by examining factors influencing housing placement among seriously ill palliative care patients experiencing homelessness.

Hibernation, an adaptive mechanism to extreme environmental conditions, is prevalent among mammals. Its main characteristics include reduced body temperature and metabolic rate. However, the mechanisms by which hibernating animals re-enter deep sleep during the euthermic phase to sustain hibernation remain poorly understood.

Plasmodium malariae is the third most prevalent human malaria parasite species and contributes significantly to morbidity. Nevertheless, our comprehension of this parasite's biology remains limited, primarily due to its frequent co-infections with other species and the lack of a continuous in vitro culture system. To effectively combat and eliminate this overlooked parasite, it is imperative to acquire a better understanding of this species.

Background: Nurses serving in infectious disease ward represent a distinct occupational group that has attracted considerable attention following epidemic outbreaks. However, prior to this study, no research had delved into the underlying mechanism linking anxiety to burnout symptoms among infectious disease nurses. This study aimed to explore investigate the association between anxiety and burnout among nurses working in such environments and scrutinized the mediating role of perceived stress and the moderating influence of resilience on the principal relationship.
