Background: Calretinin is a 29 kilodalton (KDa) calcium-binding protein that is expressed in normal and tumoral tissues. The expression of calretinin has been shown in the dental epithelium during odontogenesis and in different odontogenic cysts and tumors such as ameloblastoma. Since the epithelium of calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is similar to ameloblastoma and in both lesions, an arrangement of loose cells similar to stellate reticulum is seen, we aimed to investigate the comparative expression of calretinin in COC and ameloblastoma.

Introduction: As the most frequent chronic neurological disorder in young adults, Multiple sclerosis (MS) significantly affects neurological function, particularly the autonomic nervous system. While the physical symptoms are visible, MS also causes hidden effects like sexual dysfunction. Research indicates that sexual disorders are more prevalent in MS patients compared to other neurological conditions and are approximately five times more common than in the general population.

Background: Glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) has emerged as a potential biomarker for schizophrenia (SCZ). However, GDNF levels remain unclear in affected individuals compared to healthy controls. Therefore, we aimed to calculate a pooled estimate of GDNF levels in patients with SCZ in comparison with healthy controls.

Core-shell silicon/multiwall carbon nanotubes are one of the most promising anode candidates for further improvement of lithium-ion batteries. Sufficient accommodation for massive volume expansion of silicon during the lithiation process and preventing pulverization and delamination with easy fabrication processes are still critical issues for practical applications. In this study, core-shell silicon/MWCNTs anode materials were synthesized using a facile and controllable PECVD technique to realize aligned MWCNTs followed by a silicon sputtering step.

Relying on composite nonlinear feedback, an output-feedback controller is robustly addressed in the singular models with uncertainties, disturbances and time-delays. For this purpose, an observer-based compensator is utilized to realize the purpose. In the presence of disturbance and uncertainty, it is demonstrated that the tracking error and the states of the overall system are ultimately bounded.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the loss of insulin-producing cells in the pancreatic islets. Patients with T1D have autoreactive CD4 and CD8 T cells that show specific features, indicating previous exposure to self-antigens. Despite that memory T cells are vital components of the adaptive immune system, providing enduring protection against pathogens; individuals with T1D have a higher proportion of memory T cells compared to healthy individuals with naїve phenotypes.

The increasing prevalence of micropollutants like cationic and anionic dyes in wastewater creates an influential environmental challenge, mainly due to their toxic effects and persistence. Current methods often lack the efficiency and versatility to cope with a wide variety of contaminants. This study explores the modification of TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibers (TOCNF) using (3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyl) trimethylammonium chloride (CHPTAC) to enhance their cationic properties.

This study investigated the production and application of lignocellulosic wood vinegar and tar as organic pesticides to combat bacterial canker disease in trees, caused by pathogenic bacteria. Lignocellulosic wood vinegar and tar were produced from various lignocellulosic wastes through pyrolysis at different temperatures, with sawdust at 300 °C, 350 °C, and 400 °C yielding the highest quantity and quality of vinegar. Chemical analysis revealed that the lignocellulosic vinegar contained significant concentrations of acetic acid, methanol, and phenolic compounds, all known for their strong antimicrobial properties.

The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a specialized network that maintains central nervous system homeostasis. Disruption of the BBB can lead to neuronal damage and contribute to neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's disease (PD), characterized by alpha-synuclein (αSN) aggregation, which forms intracellular inclusions. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have shown promise in alleviating the severity of neurological diseases through their paracrine secretions.
