A 76-year-old male patient, who underwent a post-aortic valve replacement with a mechanical valve in 2006, was on oral anticoagulant therapy with warfarin, maintaining a stable therapeutic level of anticoagulation until 2022. He had a new diagnosis of ulcerative colitis in 2022, following which he was started on mesalamine. He had been having a supratherapeutic level of anticoagulation, as evidenced by an international normalized ratio (INR) of 12 to 14 on multiple occasions since 2022, leading to gastrointestinal bleeding, necessitating multiple packed red cell transfusions.

The leading cause of cancer-related death among female patients is breast cancer. Among all the types of breast cancer, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most dangerous molecular subtype of breast cancer characterized by the absence of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER-2) expression. Since there is no particular therapeutic strategy for TNBC that has been shown to worsen the disease prognosis, 3D models are superior to 2D models as a predictive tool for drug discovery because they more accurately reflect the in vivo biological components of humans.

Article Synopsis
  • The study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to consolidate literature on the biomechanical principles of the spine-pelvis-hip complex, particularly in the context of total hip arthroplasty (THA) for patients with and without spinal disorders.
  • The research included articles that assessed various spinopelvic parameters in THA patients, analyzing data from 218 abstracts and resulting in the selection of 4 relevant studies with 439 participants.
  • The findings indicated specific average values for sacral slope, ante inclination, and spinopelvic tilt in different positions, revealing proportional changes in these measures post-surgery.

Hypersplenism, although a rare hematological complication seen in chronic kidney disease patients, poses a significant challenge for successful kidney transplantation due to potential complications such as cytopenias and inadequate immunosuppressive therapy. We present a 40-year old end-stage kidney disease patient on dialysis with hypersplenism who underwent a laparoscopic splenectomy prior to high immunological risk renal transplantation. Post-splenectomy, there was a remarkable improvement in cytopenias, and effective immunosuppressive therapy could be administered prior to renal transplantation.

End-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients frequently encounter challenges at the time of dialysis catheter insertion from concomitantly associated with thoracic central venous obstruction (TCVO). TCVO complicates the placement of tunnelled dialysis catheters (TDCs). In cases where TCVO is unexpectedly encountered and TDC insertion becomes difficult, central venoplasty followed by catheter reinsertion is required.

Immune profiling of Nipah virus (NiV) infection survivors is essential for advancing our understanding of NiV pathogenesis, improving diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, and guiding public health efforts to prevent future outbreaks. There is currently limited data available on the immune response to NiV infection. We aimed to elucidate the specific immune mechanisms involved in protection against NiV infection by analyzing the immune profiles of survivors of the Nipah outbreak in Kerala, India 2023.
