Background: Burn wounds are commonly encountered in clinical settings and the management aims at the prevention of mortality and morbidity due to disability. The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is blood-derived biomaterial that is enriched with growth factors and cytokines that facilitate wound healing. The PRP has proven its efficacy in various other wounds, but its role in post-burn raw areas and graft take has not been validated.

Unlabelled: Delayed cord clamping (DCC) is now the standard of care in singleton vigorous neonates. But consensus is lacking on the appropriate approach to placental transfusion in multifetal gestational births. In this study, we tried to determine the effect of cut umbilical cord milking (C-UCM) as compared to early cord clamping (ECC) on hematological and clinical hemodynamic parameters in preterm twin neonates of 30-37 weeks gestation.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a global public health problem, but advancements in HCV treatment have improved the cure rate. This study evaluated the effectiveness of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) in HCV-infected patients from May 2021 to April 2023 in collaboration with tertiary care hospitals in West Bengal. The HCV viral load was monitored via qRT-PCR.

Background: Pancreatic cancer (PanCa) is one of the most lethal cancers (survival ~ 12%). As the conventional therapeutic interventions are mostly futile, a deep understanding of the disease pathophysiology is an urgent need. Ion channels, located on cell membrane, contribute significantly to cancer hallmarks, through dysregulation of various ion translocation; however, the fundamental mechanisms remain uncertain.

Solitary small painless lower lip lesions are common and can be of variable etiologies, giving rise to a wide number of clinical and histopathological differentials. From a clinico-pathological perspective, the diagnostic differentials may vary from vascular malformation, basal cell carcinoma, epidermal cyst, traumatic neuroma, neurofibroma, schwannoma, neurilemmoma, skin adnexal tumor, to other mucosal neuromas. Here we are reporting one such rare case masquerading as mucocele in a patient aged 37 years who reported first time at the ENT outpatient department.

Background: Fetal hemoglobin (HbF) inducers, among which hydroxyurea is the most extensively used, have shifted the paradigm toward the treatment of non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT). Xmn1 polymorphism (rs7482144) is characterized by substitution (C>T) at -158 position of the γ-globin gene, which leads to CC, CT, or TT genotype. Recently, the role of the Xmn1 polymorphism as a modifier of hydroxyurea therapy has attracted immense research interest.

Introduction: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) causes trauma to the renal parenchyma. Due to the kidney injury, free radicals are generated, and an inflammatory process develops. Inflammatory markers like interleukin's (IL), C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) are released into the circulation.

Irreversible electroporation is a promising non-thermal ablation method that has been shown to increase overall survival in locally advanced pancreatic cancer in some studies. However, higher quality studies with proper controls and randomization are required to establish its superiority when added with neoadjuvant chemotherapy over the current management of choice, which is chemotherapy alone. Further studies are required before establishment of any survival benefit in metastatic pancreatic carcinoma, and such evidence is lacking at present.

Background: Falls are some of the most common childhood injuries. However, for vulnerable children in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) such as India, mortality from a fall is nearly three times that of high-income countries. Despite fall being a leading cause of paediatric injury, detailed data from LMICs remain sparse.

Introduction It is sometimes difficult to differentiate between intestinal tuberculosis (ITB) and Crohn's disease (CD) in India, as both conditions may mimic each other. The aim was to differentiate ITB from CD in indeterminate intestinal lesions with a therapeutic trial of anti-tubercular therapy (ATT) and follow-up to find out the clinical, endoscopic, radiological, and histological predictors for differentiation between ITB and CD. Methods A prospective observational cohort study of patients diagnosed with ITB and CD according to the Asia-Pacific Guidelines in a "real-life" clinical setting was conducted.

Introduction Fixed-dose combinations (FDCs) have the potential in glaucoma management to improve efficacy due to the complementary mechanism of action of the drugs as well as compliance while reducing adverse effects by minimizing exposure to preservatives and the financial burden on the patients. FDC of brinzolamide/timolol has demonstrated efficacy and safety in multinational phase 3 studies in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and ocular hypertension. However, efficacy and safety in the Indian population are not known.

Introduction: Assessing the body composition is important in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus to prevent and achieve optimum control during treatment. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), being a more affordable method of assessing the body composition, should therefore be compared with the gold standard dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) to look for a correlation between the two and the potential of BIA to be used widely in this population. A cross-sectional observational study was conducted on 60 patients attending the endocrinology outpatient department (OPD) of a tertiary care centre in Kolkata, India.

Introduction: Participation of men in maternal and child health (MCH) is crucial for the reduction of infant and maternal mortality. MCH care services have been focused on providing information and services to women, but males' behaviour and decisions affect the health of the child and mother.
Objectives: The objectives of the study were to assess the perception and participation of males in MCH care as well as, to identify the association of their perception and participation with socio-demographic characteristics and to find out the correlation between perception and participation regarding MCH care.

Background And Introduction: Two and half percent of the Indian population suffer from gallbladder cancer (GBC). The primary factors that lead GBC are associated with mutation of several protooncogenes such as EGFR, ERBB2, Myc, and CCND1 along with dysregulation of several tumor suppressor genes such as SMAD4 and CDKN2A. Bacterial infection caused by S.

Background: Detection of cancer at the early stage currently offers the only viable strategy for reducing disease-related morbidity and mortality. Various approaches for multi-cancer early detection are being explored, which largely rely on capturing signals from circulating analytes shed by tumors into the blood. The fact that biomarker concentrations are limiting in the early stages of cancer, however, compromises the accuracy of these tests.

Background: Metabolic syndrome, a cluster of illnesses including insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and central obesity, is affecting roughly a quarter of the world population. Dysregulation of iron homeostasis may be associated with insulin resistance, leading to metabolic syndrome. Uric acid is an antioxidant currently studied in relation to several metabolic disorders.
