Background: Ferroptosis and immune responses are critical pathological events in spinal cord injury (SCI), whereas relative molecular and cellular mechanisms remain unclear.
Methods: Micro-array datasets (GSE45006, GSE69334), RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) dataset (GSE151371), spatial transcriptome datasets (GSE214349, GSE184369), and single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) datasets (GSE162610, GSE226286) were available from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Through weighted gene co-expression network analysis and differential expression analysis in GSE45006, we identified differentially expressed time- and immune-related genes (DETIRGs) associated with chronic SCI and differentially expressed ferroptosis- and immune-related genes (DEFIRGs), which were validated in GSE151371.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) has been reported to occur in 30-70% of asphyxiated neonates. Hydrogen (H) gas became a major research focus in neonatal medicine after the identification of its robust antioxidative properties. However, the ability of H gas to ameliorate AKI is unknown.

Repeated closed-head injuries (rCHI) from activities like contact sports, falls, military combat, and traffic accidents pose a serious risk due to their cumulative impact on the brain. Often, rCHI is not diagnosed until symptoms of irreversible brain damage appear, highlighting the need for preventive measures. This study assessed the prophylactic efficacy of remote photobiomodulation (PBM) targeted at the lungs against rCHI-induced brain injury and associated behavioral deficits.

Accurate identification and segmentation of HIE-related lesions in neonatal brain magnetic resonance images (MRIs) is the first step toward identifying high-risk patients, understanding neurological symptoms, evaluating treatment effects, and predicting outcomes. We release the first public dataset containing neonatal brain diffusion MRI and expert annotation of lesions from 133 patients diagnosed with HIE.

Objectives: Although exercise-induced vascular adaptations have been extensively reported in racket sports athletes, the applicability of these findings to athletes in other overhead sports is unclear. This study aimed to investigate exercise-induced vascular adaptations in college male baseball players. Furthermore, since the training frequency of the upper arm may differ by baseball playing position, this study also focused on playing position-specific differences in brachial arterial adaptations.

Background: Initial ED assessment can use early warning scores to identify and prioritise patients who need time-critical treatment. We aimed to determine the accuracy of the National Early Warning Score version 2 (NEWS2) for predicting the need for time-critical treatment.
Methods: We undertook a single-centre retrospective observational cohort study.

Objective: To test the efficacy of a randomized control trial low-touch mobile health intervention designed to promote care partner self-awareness and self-care.
Design: This randomized controlled trial (RCT) included a baseline assessment of self-report surveys of health-related quality of life (HRQOL), care partner-specific outcomes, and the functional/mental status of the person with TBI, as well as a 6-month home monitoring period that included three daily questions about HRQOL, monthly assessments of 12 HRQOL domains, and the use of a Fitbit® to continuously monitor physical activity and sleep. HRQOL surveys were repeated at 3- and 6-months post-home monitoring.

Background: Acromioclavicular (AC) joint injury management has historically been guided by the severity and grade of the injury. However, recent debates have emerged regarding the role of surgical intervention for these injuries. Insurance-based disparities in surgical treatment have been well-documented across various orthopedic conditions.

Objectives: We have previously shown that ultrasound-guided repair results in an accurate anchor placement and restores ankle joint stability using cadaveric models. The objective is to assess the safety and clinical outcomes of ultrasound-guided ATFL repair with or without augmentation.
Methods: Forty-nine patients with chronic lateral ankle instability underwent ultrasound-guided ATFL repair with or without augmentation.

Context: After completing rehabilitation, patients face a high risk of subsequent injury following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction. It is important to identify potential barriers to patient success including clinician knowledge. The purpose of this study was to assess clinician knowledge of research related to anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction rehabilitation.

Blast lung injury (BLI) is a major cause of death in blast injuries, largely due to pulmonary edema. Effective clearance of alveolar fluid is critical for resolving pulmonary edema, with the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) playing a key role in this process. Resveratrol (RES), a natural compound with known antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, has shown promise in treating respiratory diseases.

Burns are dynamic injuries characterized by an initial zone of necrosis that progresses to compromise surrounding tissue. Acute inflammation and cell death are two main factors contributing to burn progression. These processes are modulated by Connexin43 (Cx43) hemichannels and gap junctions in burns and chronic wounds.

Introduction: Enterally-based resuscitation (EResus) is safe, efficacious, and has operational advantages, particularly in low-resource settings. However, there is a lack of real-world effectiveness studies and evidence-based protocols, which hinders implementation. To address this gap, we conducted a feasibility study ahead of a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of enterally based versus usual resuscitation at a tertiary burn center in Nepal which had no prior clinical trial experience.

Bone serves as a fundamental structural component in the body, playing pivotal roles in support, protection, mineral supply, and hormonal regulation. However, critical-sized bone injuries have become increasingly prevalent, necessitating extensive medical interventions due to limitations in the body's capacity for self-repair. Traditional approaches, such as autografts, allografts, and xenografts, have yielded unsatisfactory results.

Purpose: While treatment modalities for Maisonneuve fractures involving the proximal third of the fibula are established, no studies to date have reported outcomes associated with syndesmotic-only fixation of middle third fibular shaft fractures. The purpose of this study was to evaluate outcomes associated with syndesmotic-only fixation in the treatment of Maisonneuve fractures involving the middle third of the fibula.
Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on 257 cases of syndesmotic ankle instability with associated fibular fractures at a level 1 trauma center between 2013 and 2023.

Introduction: Ankle fractures represent a significant portion of orthopedic injuries, with fracture dislocations tending to have worse outcomes. Logsplitter fractures represent a subset of fracture dislocations in which the talus is axially wedged in the tibiofibular joint. We aim to comprehensively investigate and report on the complications and functional outcomes associated with ankle fracture-dislocations.

Purpose: A prospective longitudinal cohort study was performed to gain insight into the course of recovery in terms of pain, opioid consumption, and mobility in patients with a lateral compression (LC) pelvic injury.
Methods: Adult patients with an LC injury, without any cognitive disorders or limited mobility and who could communicate in Dutch were asked to participate. Pain in terms of NRS (numeric rating scale, range 0-10), opioid use and mobility were recorded at eight time points: at hospital admission, and three days, one week, six weeks, three months, six months, one year and two years after the injury.

Iliosacral screw osteosynthesis is a widely recognized technique for stabilizing unstable posterior pelvic ring injuries, offering notable advantages, including enhanced mechanical stability, minimal invasiveness, reduced blood loss, and lower infection rates. However, the procedure presents technical challenges due to the complex anatomy of the sacrum and the proximity of critical neurovascular structures. While conventional fluoroscopy remains the primary method for intraoperative guidance, precise preoperative planning using multiplanar reconstructions and three-dimensional volume rendering is crucial for ensuring accurate placement of iliosacral or transsacral screws.
