The influence of government-issued lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic on traumatic brain injuries in Tyrol, Austria.

Introduction: In February 2020, COVID-19 infections started to spread in Austria. This was followed by governmental actions and constraints such as lockdowns, quarantine protocols, and a ban on outdoor sports. The goal of this study was to investigate the influence of these measures on the number of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) in the state of Tyrol.

A Randomized Controlled Trial of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia During Early Recovery from Alcohol Use Disorder Among Veterans.

Study Objectives: 1) To determine the efficacy of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) for improving insomnia, alcohol-related outcomes, and daytime functioning at post-treatment and at 3- and 6-month follow-up, in a largely African American Veteran sample; 2) Evaluate whether improvement in insomnia is associated with a reduction in alcohol-related outcomes post-treatment.

Methods: An RCT of CBT-I (n = 31) compared to Quasi-Desensitization therapy (QDT, n = 32), eight weekly in-person sessions, with assessments at baseline, end of treatment (8 weeks), and 3- and 6-months post-treatment. Primary outcomes were the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) total score, and Percent Days Abstinent (PDA).

INCREASED INCIDENCE OF INJURIES IN THE SÃO PAULO SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP POST-PANDEMIC.

Objective: Soccer shows a high incidence of injuries and its cause is multifactorial. The impacts of the coronavirus pandemic are unknown. This study aims to evaluate the incidence of injuries in the 2023 Campeonato Paulista de Futebol (São Paulo Soccer Championship) and compare it to the championships prior to the pandemic.

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL PROFILE OF PATIENTS WITH ANKLE FRACTURE TREATED IN A TERTIARY LEVEL HOSPITAL.

Objective: To evaluate the epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with ankle fracture admitted to a tertiary hospital.

Methods: Retrospective Cross-Sectional Observational Study.

Inclusion Criteria: Individuals aged ≥18 (eighteen) years, diagnosed with ankle fracture, who underwent surgical and/or conservative treatment at a tertiary hospital in the city of São Paulo.

Objective: To assess the incidence and characteristics of injuries that occurred during the 2021 season of the Paulista Soccer Championship during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and to compare these characteristics before and after the championship interruption.

Methods: A prospective study was conducted using an electronic form developed by the Medical Committee of the Paulista Soccer Federation. The results were sent by the team physicians of Series A1 after each round of the Paulista Soccer Championship.

GAIT ASSESSMENT IN ANKLE FRACTURES WITH SYNDESMOSIS LESIONS UNDERGOING SURGERY.

Introduction: The three-dimensional evaluation of patients in the gait laboratory is a diagnostic method that is gaining ground in various orthopedic pathologies and, in the case of ankle fractures, can more accurately detail the degree of joint limitation.

Objective: To present the importance of laboratory gait studies in the postoperative period of ankle fractures associated with syndesmosis ligament injuries, increasing the arsenal for assessing whether the surgical approach and outcome were satisfactory.

Methods: Case series of 13 patients who underwent surgical treatment for ankle fractures associated with syndesmosis injuries, evaluated postoperatively in the gait clinic using the BTS GAITLAB hardware program.

Open Ankle Injury without Associated Fracture or Dislocation Requiring Surgical Intervention: A Case Report.

Introduction: Bony and ligamentous ankle injuries are some of the most commonly treated injuries by orthopedic surgeons. Open ligamentous ankle injuries without an associated fracture or dislocation are rare and to our knowledge have only sparsely been described in the literature. Introduction: Road traffic accidents (RTA) account for a sizable portion of morbidity and mortality globally, with a particularly high incidence among young and active individuals. Patients presenting with polytrauma require a multidisciplinary approach guided by protocols for advanced trauma life support.

Introduction: Pressure injuries (PIs) continue to remain one of the most common and debilitating complications seen adding to the financial burden of the patients and caregivers. The available VAC (vacuum assisted closure) systems are expensive. In our case series we have applied low-cost negative pressure dressing (NPD) for sacral pressure injuries in five patients along with individualised rehabilitation protocol which resulted in accelerated healing of their PIs and improved functional outcome.

Conservative management of grade 5 renal injury: Case report.

Blunt trauma is a common cause of renal injuries, usually managed conservatively unless there's hemodynamic instability, which warrants surgery. We present a case of a 22-year-old male with isolated Grade 5 renal injury, diagnosed via CT scan after blunt trauma. Despite the severity, he was successfully treated without surgery through conservative management in the ICU, with frequent monitoring and stabilization of his condition.
