Introduction: Hypospermatogenesis is a common histopathological subtype of non-obstructive azoospermia and is characterized by a decrease in the total number of germ cells within the seminiferous tubule as a result of spermatogenic failure. Determination of genetic factors before intracytoplasmic sperm injection can prevent the inheritance of these factors, as hypospermatogenesis patients gives high successful sperm retrieval rate. This study aimed to identify the structural variants associated with idiopathic hypospermatogenesis (iHS) by analyzing patient cohorts diagnosed with azoospermia using whole exome sequencing.

Basilicata and Apulian (BAS-APU) turkeys, a native population in the Basilicata and Puglia regions of southern Italy, are known for their high meat quality and tolerance to local conditions. Understanding the genomic patterns of BAS-APU turkeys is critical for effective breeding and preservation strategies. In this study, we characterized runs of homozygosity (ROH), and selection signatures using the integrated haplotype score (iHS) and ROH approaches.

The genetic improvement of beef cattle breeds is crucial for the advancement of the beef cattle industry. Whole-genome resequencing technology has been widely applied in genetic breeding as well as research on selection signatures in beef cattle. In this study, 20× whole-genome resequencing was performed on 282 Angus cattle from the Ningxia region, and a high-quality dataset encompassing extensive genomic variations across the entire genome was constructed.

Implementation of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Respect (DEIR) is crucial for supporting students in a culturally safe environment, reducing bias, fostering respect, broadening perspectives, enhancing collaboration, and improving education in science. DEIR with Indigenous reconciliation incorporates Indigenous-based DEIR initiatives as a response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) in Canada to acknowledge the intergenerational trauma and mistrust toward colonial institutions such as universities. Universities can advance reconciliation by incorporating DEIR with Indigenous reconciliation into everyday practices.

The burden of cancer remains elevated for American Indian/Alaska Natives (AI/AN) in the United States, particularly urban communities. Urban Indian Organizations (UIOs) are part of the Indian health care system for urban AI/AN populations to receive culturally competent care; therefore, it is important that UIOs convey the importance of cancer preventive and treatment options through their websites. The purpose of this study was to utilize the Indian Health Service (IHS) Office of Urban Indian Health Programs' official website to identify, analyze, and describe IHS funded UIOs offering cancer-related services.

Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is the most common gastrointestinal congenital anomaly of the small intestine. A small subset of patients with MD develops a mesodiverticular band (MDB), creating a snare-like opening and the potential for internal hernias (IHs). IHs are a known possible cause of small bowel obstructions and are most common in adults post bariatric surgery.

Dietary modification has the potential to improve nutritional status and reduce environmental impacts of the food system. However, for many countries, the optimal composition of locally contextualized healthy and sustainable diets is unknown. The Gambia is vulnerable to climate-change-induced future water scarcity which may affect crop yields and the ability to supply healthy diets.

Introduction: Identifying genomic regions under selection is the most challenging issue for improving important traits in animals. Few studies have focused on identifying genomic regions under selection in sheep. The aim of this study was to identify selective sweeps and to explore the relationship between these and quantitative trait loci (QTL) in both domestic and wild sheep species using single nucleotide polymorphism markers (SNPs).

The unprecedented consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic have raised concerns about the erosion of social cohesion and intensified social unrest, but evidence for such a link and the underlying channels is still lacking. We use a unique combination of nationally representative survey data, event data on social unrest, and data on Covid-19 fatalities and unemployment at a weekly resolution to investigate the forces behind social cohesion and unrest in the context of the strains on public health and the economy due to the pandemic in the USA. The results show that pandemic-related unemployment and Covid-19 fatalities intensified negative emotional stress and led to a deterioration of economic confidence among individuals.

Infantile hemangiomas (IH) are the most common benign tumors of infancy and progress through recognized stages of evolution including early proliferation, plateau, and involution. Ulceration is a common complication of IHs typically observed during the early proliferative stage characterized by rapid growth. In rare cases, ulceration is the primary clinical manifestation of IHs.

Objective: To analyze the degree of agreement in treatment choices for IH among pediatric dermatologists in North America and Europe and assess whether there are differences across IH risk categories.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This cross-sectional interrater and intrarater agreement study was conducted through a survey based on the Spanish Academy of Dermatology and Venereology IH prospective cohort.

Biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch (BPD-DS) and single anastomosis duodeno-ileostomy with sleeve (SADI-S) are associated with superior and sustained weight loss outcomes. Despite their growing popularity, long-term safety profiles, particularly the risk of internal hernia (IH), remain underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the incidence and characteristics of IH following BPD-DS and SADI-S procedures, comparing their clinical presentation, diagnostic methods, and outcomes.

Background: In the process of video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for lung nodule resection, lung is leaded to atelectasis. However, preoperative computed tomography (CT) images are taken during inspiration, which means they differ significantly from the lung status observed during surgery. Consequently, this discrepancy can make the localization of small or subsolid nodules challenging during the operation.

American Indian and Alaska Natives (AI/ANs) are a heterogeneous group of people living throughout the USA with some of the highest cancer incidence and highest cancer-related mortality in the country. This landmark series seeks to highlight cancer care in this population by providing a historical context of the largest healthcare delivery system serving AI/ANs, the Indian Health Service (IHS). We will highlight how the dynamic nature of this population creates unique challenges and the need for dedicated resources to help eliminate cancer care disparities.

Background: Schistosomiasis is an important snail-borne parasitic disease whose transmission is exacerbated by water resource management activities. In Rwanda, meeting the growing population's demand for food has led to wetlands reclamation for cultivation and increased agrochemical enrichment for crop production. However, the ecological consequences of agrochemical enrichment on schistosomiasis transmission remain unexplored.
