Reproductive tract infections (RTIs) such as vaginal candidiasis and bacterial vaginosis (BV) are common among sexually active women and can be both symptomatic or asymptomatic. The microbiota of the reproductive tract triggers immune response at the cervicovaginal interface resulting in secretion of cytokines during the course of these RTIs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the cytokine profile in cervicovaginal lavage of women having asymptomatic vaginal infections.

Cervicitis is an inflammatory condition of cervix, when presented along with vaginal discharge; it is termed as cervico-vaginitis. These can be infective, hence important to diagnose due to risk of spreading to upper genital tract. This cross-sectional study was undertaken to evaluate the microbiological spectrum in cervicitis or cervico-vaginitis among 100 sexually active women by Gram stain and Multiplex Real time polymerase chain reaction.

Fingerprick blood spotted onto filter paper offers an alternative to venous blood for use in population-based surveillance because it is comparatively inexpensive, acceptable, and easy to manage in the field. Prior studies have shown excellent agreement for immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody detection from dried blood spots (DBS) and venous blood samples. However, much of this evidence is from high-income settings or laboratories where the samples were unlikely to be exposed to extreme temperatures and humidity, factors known to degrade DBS.

Earlier we have reported mercury-induced alterations in functional dynamics of buck spermatozoa through free radicals-mediated oxidative stress and spontaneous acrosome reaction. Based on our earlier findings, we aimed to investigate the effect of mercury exposure on motility, kinematic patterns, DNA damage, apoptosis and ultra-structural alterations in goat spermatozoa following in vitro exposure to different concentrations (0.031-1.

Mitochondria have multiple functions, including synthesis of adenine triphosphate, production of reactive oxygen species, calcium signalling, thermogenesis and apoptosis. Mitochondria have a significant contribution in regulating the various physiological aspects of reproductive function, from spermatogenesis up to fertilisation. Mitochondrial functionality and intact mitochondrial membrane potential are a pre-requisite for sperm motility, hyperactivation, capacitation, acrosin activity, acrosome reaction and DNA integrity.

Unlabelled: Female genital tract tuberculosis (FGTB) is a chronic disease with varied presentation. The diagnosis of FGTB for early institution of treatment remains a clinical challenge. Its laboratory diagnosis is difficult because of paucibacillary nature of the condition and limitation of available diagnostic tests.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder characterized by irregular menstrual cycles, hyperandrogenism and subfertility. Due to its complex manifestation, the pathogenic mechanism of PCOS is not well defined. Cumulative effect of altered genetic and epigenetic factors along with environmental factors may play a role in the manifestation of PCOS leading to systemic malfunction.

Objective: The development of an accurate, sensitive, specific, rapid, reproducible, stable-at-room-temperature and cost-effective diagnostic kit, and a low-cost portable fluorescence detector to fulfil the requirements of diagnostic facilities in developing countries.
Methods: We developed the 'Chlamy and Ness CT/NG kit' based on molecular beacons for the detection of Chlamydia trachomatis (CT) and Neisseriagonorrhoeae (NG). Multi-centric evaluation of the CT/NG kit was performed using the commercially available nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT)-based FTD Urethritis basic kit for comparison from December 2014 to November 2016.

The oral uptake of intact nanocarriers through Peyer's patches is an important uptake pathway. We report Rifampicin Lipid-Polymer hybrid nanoparticles (RIF-LIPOMER) using glyceryl monostearate as lipid and the mucoadhesive polymer, Gantrez, with the objective of balancing hydrophobicity and mucoadhesion for enhanced Peyer's patch uptake. RIF-LIPOMER was optimized for size, hydrophobicity, and mucoadhesion using Box-Behnken.
