Household transmission dynamics of COVID-19 among residents of Delhi, India: a prospective case-ascertained study.

Objective: The aim of this study was to observe the secondary infection rate and transmission dynamics of COVID-19 among household contacts, and their associations with various factors across four dimensions of interaction.

Methods: This was a case-ascertained study among unvaccinated household contacts of a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 case in New Delhi between December 2020 and July 2021. For this study, 99 index cases and their 316 household contacts were interviewed and sampled (blood and oro-nasal swab) on days 1, 7, 14, and 28.

Prognostic Relevance of PDL1 and CA19-9 Expression in Gallbladder Cancer vs. Inflammatory Lesions.

Chronic inflammation in the gallbladder leading to persistent epithelium damage promotes invasive cancer. The study aimed to assess the prognostic value of PDL1 and CA19-9 markers in cancer/inflammatory lesions of the gallbladder. A total of 29 cases (19 cancer and 10 inflammatory) were included.

Challenges in setting up a primary human papillomavirus-DNA testing facility in a lower and middle income country: lessons learned from a pilot programme.

Introduction: Detection of high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) is the most sensitive test for the screening of cervical cancer. Although most high-income countries have adopted this strategy in their screening programme, there are a lot of barriers in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) in setting up this facility for screening. The lessons learned based on this experience can be useful for other LMICs in their first steps to integrate HPV testing into a screening programme.

In-Silico molecular screening of natural compounds as a potential therapeutic inhibitor for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus inhibition.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a life-threatening superbug causing infectious diseases such as pneumonia, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, etc. Conventional antibiotics are ineffective against MRSA infections due to their resistance mechanism against the antibiotics. The Penicillin Binding Protein (PBP2a) inhibits the activity of antibiotics by hydrolyzing the β-lactam ring.

An investigation of the efficacy of different statistical models in malaria forecasting in the semi-arid regions of Gujarat, India.

Background & Objectives: Robust forecasting of malaria cases is desirable as we are approaching towards malaria elimination in India. Methods enabling robust forecasting and timely case detection in unstable transmission areas are the need of the hour.

Methods: Forecasting efficacy of the eight most prominent statistical models that are based on three statistical methods: Generalized linear model (Model A and Model B), Smoothing method (Model C), and SARIMA (Model D to model H) were compared using last twelve years (2008-19) monthly malaria data of two districts (Kheda and Anand) of Gujarat state of India.

Outbreak of cholera in a remote village in western India.

Background & Objectives: Atypical El Tor strains of Vibrio cholerae are frequently implicated in outbreaks of cholera. It is important to understand genetic variations of such strains which impact clinical and epidemiological outcomes. The present study was carried out to characterize an outbreak of cholera which occurred between July 8 and 13, 2018, in a remote settlement in Nashik district, Maharashtra.

Impact of three years of prohibition on extent and pattern of alcohol use in Bihar: Observations and insights from the National Family Health Survey.

Bihar Excise (Amendment) Act, 2016 was promulgated in the state and a complete prohibition on alcohol was declared within the state of Bihar. We aimed to assess the impact of the prohibition on extent and pattern of alcohol use in the state of Bihar using the National Family Health Survey data. We also compared the data from Bihar with the data for the whole country, its neighbouring states and the state of Gujarat.

Identification and validation of Sertoli cell homing peptides as molecular steering for testis targeted drug delivery.

The testicle, an organ privileged with immunity because of Blood-Testis Barrier (BTB), poses a major impediment to developing and delivering drugs to the testes. These problems can be prevented by targeting testicular cells using specific ligands, such as homing peptides. This is the first study to demonstrate the successful selection of Sertoli cell homing peptides using a phage display peptide library.

Pregnancy rates and clinical outcomes among women living with HIV enrolled in HPTN 052.

HPTN 052 was a multi-country clinical trial of cART for preventing heterosexual HIV-1 transmission. The study allowed participation of pregnant women and provided access to cART and contraceptives. We explored associations between pregnancy and clinical measures of HIV disease stage and progression.

Exploration of spatial clustering in maternal health continuum of care across districts of India: A geospatial analysis of demographic and health survey data.

Introduction: The continuum of care (CoC) throughout pregnancy, delivery and post-delivery has recently been highlighted as an integrated intervention programme for maternal, new-born, and child health. Existing literature suggests the importance of continuum of care (CoC) for improved maternal and child health outcomes. However due to unavailability of data at the lowest administrative levels, literature on spatial pattern of uptake of full CoC is lacking.

Chemopreventive Effect of Cinnamon and Its Bioactive Compounds in a Rat Model of Premalignant Prostate Carcinogenesis.

The aim of the current study was to assess the chemopreventive efficacy of cinnamon (CN) and its bioactive compounds in vivo using N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU) and testosterone (T) to induce prostate carcinogenesis in male Wistar/National Institute of Nutrition rats. Cancer-induced (CI) rats (n = 10) developed prostatic hyperplasia and prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia.

Cancer awareness & its association with demographic variables & mobile phone usage among the rural population of a district in north India.

Background & Objectives: Lack of awareness is one of the major reasons for the high morbidity and mortality associated with cancers. The present study was aimed to evaluate the awareness of prevalent cancers among the rural population in a district of north India and its association specifically with mobile phone usage.

Methods: Using a stratified random sampling technique, households in three villages of Gautam Buddh Nagar district of India were selected.

Predictors of adherence to prescribed antihypertensive medications among Hypertensive (15-49 years) in India: A secondary data analysis of National Family Health Survey 4.

Background: Adherence to medications is one of the key determinants of therapeutic control of high blood pressure and is seen as a bottleneck in our fight against hypertension control. We have little scientific evidence from India that highlights the determinants of treatment adherence.

Aim: The purpose of this study was to identify the predictor adherence to the currently prescribed antihypertensive medications.

An ultrasensitive electrochemical DNA biosensor for monitoring Human papillomavirus-16 (HPV-16) using graphene oxide/Ag/Au nano-biohybrids.

A DNA-based electrochemical biosensor has been developed herein for the detection of Human papillomavirus-16 (HPV-16). HPV-16 is a double-stranded, non-enveloped, epitheliotropic DNA virus which responsible for cervical cancer. In this proposed biosensor, an indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass electrode was modified for sensing HPV-16 using graphene oxide and silver coated gold nanoparticles.

Stromal microenvironment namely angiogenesis, tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes, and matrix metalloproteinase in invasive breast carcinoma: Do they have a prognostic role?

Background: The role of stromal microenvironment in growth, invasiveness, and metastatic potential of breast carcinoma (BC) is being recognized increasingly, both to predict prognosis and as potential therapeutic targets. The present study aimed to evaluate the correlation of angiogenesis, tumor-associated lymphocytes, and stromal CD10 expression with clinicopathologic parameters.

Materials And Methods: This study included 100 consecutive cases of invasive BC undergoing modified radical mastectomy.
