Background: Asian cultivars were predominantly represented in global rice panel selected for sequencing and to identify novel alleles for drought tolerance. Diverse genetic resources adapted to Indian subcontinent were not represented much in spite harboring useful alleles that could improve agronomic traits, stress resilience and productivity. These rice accessions are valuable genetic resource in developing rice varieties suited to different rice ecosystem that experiences varying drought stress level, and at different crop stages.

Several azine derivatives have been prepared and structurally characterized by spectroscopic and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Two of them, viz. naphthalene based (A10) and anthracene based (A11) show fluorescence enhancement in the presence of Ag in aqueous-methanol.

Several naphthalene-based aldazine derivatives were developed as efficient colorimetric and fluorescence probes for selective ratiometric recognition of traces of zinc acetate. The derivative structures were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The probes were used for in vitro tracking of zinc acetate in endophytic bacteria within rice root tissue and to image zinc acetate in human breast cancer cells (MCF7) by normal and fluorescence microscopy.

Rice is a staple cereal of India cultivated in about 43.5Mha area but with relatively low average productivity. Abiotic factors like drought, flood and salinity affect rice production adversely in more than 50% of this area.

Heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) is an important chaperone, involved in protein folding, refolding, translocation and complex remodeling reactions under normal as well as stress conditions. However, expression of HSPA1A gene in heat and cold stress conditions associates with other chaperons and perform its function. Experimental structure for Camel HSP70 protein (cHSP70) has not been reported so far.
