The Indian scad, Decapterus russelli is one of the most exploited pelagic resources of India. Population genetic analyses using mitochondrial and nuclear markers indicated a lack of genetic structuring among populations from Indian waters. As this species is highly migratory, it is also important to establish the environmental influence on its population structure.

This study investigated the biochemical composition and tested the antioxidant and antimicrobial properties of four Indian-origin essential oils (EOs)-ginger, garlic, clove, and eucalyptus-to evaluate their potential for culinary applications. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was used to identify the chemical constituents of EOs. Antioxidant assays such as 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and antimicrobial assays such as Agar well diffusion, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) were carried out.

Aquaculture, particularly shrimp farming, is crucial for global food security. However, the increasing presence of microplastics (MPs) in marine environments, shrimp feeds, and atmospheric particles has made MP contamination in shrimp tissues inevitable. This study systematically investigates the abundance, characteristics, and temporal trends (from 15th to the 120th day of culture) of MPs contamination in Litopenaeus vannamei, along with associated feed, water, and sediment across 12 shrimp ponds of two major shrimp-producing regions of India.

Chitosan-based films, despite being biodegradable and edible, often lack the necessary requisite properties such as mechanical strength, water resistance, and thermal stability, which are critical for effective food packaging. To address these limitations, incorporating reinforcing nanofiller materials offers a promising solution. This study utilizes steam-exploded chitin nanocrystals (ChNCs) to reinforce chitosan nanocomposite films through a solution-casting technique.

Wound healing remains a critical challenge in healthcare, requiring advanced wound dressings with superior properties like transparency, absorbency, and biocompatibility. However, gaps exist in the use of marine-derived biopolymers for sustainable dressings. This study addresses this gap by combining κ-carrageenan (KC) with polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) to develop transparent and absorbent biodegradable films through solvent casting and lyophilization techniques.

The aim of the experiment was to investigate the pharmacokinetics of oxytetracycline dihydrate after a single oral administration of 80 mg kg day in rainbow trout and assess its biosafety at concentration of 80, 240, 400, and 800 mg kg day over 30 days, focusing on various aspects such as effective feed consumption, physiological responses, drug tolerance, and detection of low drug concentrations in rainbow trout. The pharmacokinetics study spanned a duration of 5 days, while the assessment of biosafety extended for a 30-day safety margin, followed by a subsequent 10-day residual analysis. Pharmacokinetic analysis revealed slow absorption with low-rate constant in tissues.
