Maize productivity is significantly impacted by drought; therefore, improvement of drought tolerance is a critical goal in maize breeding. To achieve this, a better understanding of the genetic basis of drought tolerance is necessary. Our study aimed to identify genomic regions associated with drought tolerance-related traits by phenotyping a mapping population of recombinant inbred lines (RILs) for two seasons under well-watered (WW) and water-deficit (WD) conditions.

The present study tests the accuracy of four models in estimating the hourly air temperatures in different agroecological regions of the country during two major crop seasons, kharif and rabi, by taking daily maximum and minimum temperatures as input. These methods that are being used in different crop growth simulation models were selected from the literature. The simultaneous occurrence of high temperature and moisture stress during the reproductive stage of lentil ( Medik) constrains yield potential by disrupting the plant defense system. We studied the detrimental outcomes of heat and moisture stress on rainfed lentils under residual moisture in a field experiment conducted on clay loam soil (Aeric Haplaquept) in eastern India from 2018 to 2019 and from 2019 to 2020 in winter seasons. There is a global concern about the effects of climate change driven shifts in species phenology on crop pests. Using geographically and temporally extensive data set of moth trap catches and temperatures across the cotton growing states of India, we predicted the phenology of cotton pink bollworm Pectinophora gossypiella (Saunders). Our approach was centered on growing degree days (GDD), a measure of thermal accumulation that provides a mechanistic link between climate change and species' phenology.

The 'seedless' table grape industry relies mainly on stenospermocarpic cultivars, in which endosperm abortion results in berries with seed rudiments and low levels of bioactive gibberellin (GA). Application of GA to enhance berry sizing in these cultivars is often accompanied by adverse effects, one of which is increased proportions of very small berries (termed shot berries). Manual removal of these berries, which is essential to improve uniformity and market value, increases production cost and exposes the cluster to damage.

Background: Grape is highly sensitive to gibberellin (GA), which is crucial during seed and berry development (SBD) either by itself or by interacting with other hormones, such as auxin, Abscisic acid (ABA), and Cytokinin (CK). However, no systematic analysis of GA metabolic and signal transduction (MST) pathway has been undertaken in grapevine.
Results: In this study, total endogenous GA content significantly decreased during SBD, and a total of 48 known genes in GA metabolic (GAM; 31) and signal transduction (ST; 17) pathways were identified in this process.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFMajor nutrient management systems for rice-wheat cropping were compared for their potential to credit organic carbon (C) to the soil, its fractionation into active (very labile, VLc; labile, Lc) and passive (less labile, LLc; non-labile, NLc) pools, and crop yield responses. A ten-year long experiment was used to study effects of: (i) no inputs (Control, O), (ii) 100% inorganic fertilizers (F) compared to reduced fertilizers inputs (55%) supplemented with biomass incorporation from (iii) opportunity legume crop (Vigna radiata) (LE), (iv) green manure (Sesbania aculeata) (GM), (v) farmyard manure (FYM), (vi) wheat stubble (WS), and (vii) rice stubble (RS). Maximum C input to soil (as the percentage of C assimilated in the system) was in GM (36%) followed by RS (34%), WS (33%), LE (24%), and FYM (21%) compared to O (15%) and F (15%).
