During the course of two independent studies, six conspecific yeast strains were recovered from flowers, soil, bird faeces and wood of different geographical origins. The six strains share identical DNA sequences in two barcoding regions, the D1/D2 domain of the LSU rRNA gene and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region (ITS1-5.8S rRNA gene-ITS2).

Unlabelled: During infection, the giant phiKZ phage forms a specialized structure at the center of the host cell called the phage nucleus. This structure is crucial for safeguarding viral DNA against bacterial nucleases and for segregating the transcriptional activities of late genes. Here, we describe a morphological entity, the early phage infection (EPI) vesicle, which appears to be responsible for earlier gene segregation at the beginning of the infection process.

The culturable yeast communities in temperate forest soils under the ornithogenic influence were studied in a seasonal dynamic. To investigate the intense ornithogenic influence, conventional and "live" feeders were used, which were attached to trees in the forest and constantly replenished throughout the year. It was found that the yeast abundance in the soil under strong ornithogenic influence reached the highest values in winter compared to the other seasons and amounted to 4.

Purpose: Understanding the relationship between patient immune characteristics, disease severity, and mortality represents a critical step in the fight against COVID-19. Elevated levels of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) and Neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are linked to increased severity of acute COVID-19 in patients. This study aimed to investigate the association of the combination of sPD-L1 and NLR with 1-year Mortality in patients with COVID-19.

In urban ecosystems, processes associated with anthropogenic influences almost always lead to changes in soil micromycete complexes. The taxonomic structure of soil micromycete complexes is an important informative parameter of soil bioindication in the ecological control of urban environments. Unicellular fungi, such as culturable yeasts, are a very suitable and promising object of microbiological research for monitoring urban topsoil.

In this study, the ability of recombinant full-length Ply (rPly) of pneumococci to induce TLR expression and maturation of dendritic cells generated from mouse bone marrow was evaluated. It was shown that rPly in vitro increased the number of dendritic cells expressing Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) on the membrane.

Measles has not yet been eradicated; therefore, its outbreaks are still reported throughout the world. Like any infection, measles is dangerous for immunocompromised patients. Levels of anti-measles IgG antibodies were measured in 157 patients aged 17 to 72, who were placed on the lung transplant waiting list.

Yeast complexes in the fecal samples of wild (Dendrocopos major, Picus viridis) and partially synanthropic (Bombycilla garrulus, Garrulus glandarius, Pica pica, and Pyrrhula pyrrhula) birds were studied in a forest ecosystem during winter. A total of 18 yeast species were identified: 16 ascomycetes and two basidiomycetes belonging to five subphyla of fungi: Saccharomycotina (15), Pezizomycotina (1), Agaricomycotina (1), and Pucciniomycotina (1). Most yeast species were found in the fecal samples of P.

Strains of the Candida parapsilosis and Meyerozyma guilliermondii species complexes isolated from the internal tissues of 26 fruit species from 21 countries were evaluated for their susceptibility to conventional antifungal compounds (fluconazole, voriconazole, amphotericin B) and hydrolytic activity. A total of 144 strains were studied. Resistance to at least one of the antifungal compounds tested was found in 26.

Methods: The study included 55 patients with non-severe CAP. Group 1 (control) received only standard CAP therapy; the other two groups received immunomodulators simultaneously with the standard therapy: bacterial lysate for group 2 and azoximer bromide (AzB) for group 3.

Antimicrobial activity of milk whey in different mammals against Candida albicans yeast cells was studied by a spectrophotometric method. The activity increased in the order goat→horse→camel→cow→human→mouse. The level of whey activity in mice was higher by 3 and 10 times than in humans and goats, respectively.

The search for ligands activating innate immunity receptors is an important scientific problem due to the possibility of their use as adjuvants and immunomodulators. In this study the effect of recombinant Pseudomonas aeruginosa OprF proteins and a toxoid (a deletion atoxic form of exotoxin A) on the activation of TLR4, TLR9, NOD1, and NOD2 receptors has been investigated.

Background: Although extensive research has been conducted on the role of local immunity in patients with SARS-CoV-2, little is known about the production and concentrations of secretory IgA (SIgA) in different mucosal compartments. This article aims to assess the secretion of SIgA in the nasal and pharyngeal compartments and saliva of patients with COVID-19 and to investigate the possibility and efficiency of correction of their secretion using combined intranasal and oral administration of a pharmaceutical containing antigens of opportunistic microorganisms.
Methods: This study included 78 inpatients, aged between 18 and 60 years, who had confirmed COVID-19 with moderate lung involvement.

The yeasts Cryptococcus albidus (Naganishia albida) usually occur on natural substrates and rarely are the etiological factor of different mycoses. More than a half of mycosis cases described in the literature were reported during the period from 2004 to 2021. In this regard, evaluation of yeast sensitivity to antimycotic drugs is as important as their identification.

As novel SARS-CoV-2 Variants of Concern emerge, the efficacy of existing vaccines against COVID-19 is declining. A possible solution to this problem lies in the development of a live attenuated vaccine potentially able of providing cross-protective activity against a wide range of SARS-CoV-2 antigenic variants. Cold-adapted (ca) SARS-CoV-2 variants, Dubrovka-ca-B4 (D-B4) and Dubrovka-ca-D2 (D-D2), were obtained after long-term passaging of the Dubrovka (D) strain in Vero cells at reduced temperatures.
