Influenza and other acute respiratory viral infections (ARVIs) are among the most common human diseases. In recent decades, the discovery of cytokines and their significance in the pathogenesis of diseases has led to extensive research on these compounds in various pathologies including ARVIs. The aim of the research was to study the cytokine profile in patients with ARVIs.

Beta-blockers are first-line drugs in the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). However, there is no consensus on the specific effects of the beta-blockers of the I-III generation on energy metabolism in CHF. The aim of this study is to conduct a study of beta-blockers of different generations on myocardial energy metabolism in experimental CHF.

This study investigated the influence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes associated with the interferon pathway (IFNAR2 rs2236757), antiviral response (OAS1 rs10774671, OAS3 rs10735079), and viral entry (ACE2 rs2074192) on COVID-19 severity and their association with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (MAFLD). We did not observe a significant association between the investigated SNPs and COVID-19 severity. While the IFNAR2 rs2236757 A allele was correlated with higher creatinine levels upon admission and the G allele was correlated with lower band neutrophils upon discharge, these findings require further investigation.

Leptospirosis presents a significant health challenge in the Transcarpathian region of Ukraine, with higher incidence rates and mortality compared to national averages. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to investigate the effects of antibiotic and steroid treatments on outcomes in leptospirosis patients. Our analysis of clinical and laboratory data from a single center revealed that dexamethasone showed significant effects on various clinical variables, as did investigated antibiotics.

Leptospirosis, a zoonotic disease prevalent in tropical regions, often leads to severe complications such as Weil's disease and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). This pioneering meta-analysis investigated the role of corticosteroids in treating severe leptospirosis, addressing a critical gap in the current clinical knowledge. We systematically reviewed studies from PubMed and Scopus, focusing on randomized controlled trials and observational cohort studies involving adult patients diagnosed with leptospirosis.

The study of the A1166C polymorphism of the angiotensin II type 1 receptor gene () in arterial hypertension is an auspicious area for assessing the relationship between heredity, hypertension development, and adipokines, but it still remains debatable. The purpose of the current study was to investigate serum adipokines levels depending on the A1166C polymorphism.

The present study reports on the development, adaptation, and optimization of a novel monoenzyme conductometric biosensor based on a recombinant arginine deiminase (ADI) for the determination of arginine in dietary supplements with a high accuracy of results. Aiming for the highly sensitive determination of arginine in real samples, we studied the effect of parameters of the working buffer solution (its pH, buffer capacity, ionic strength, temperature, and protein concentration) on the sensitivity of the biosensor to arginine. Thus, it was determined that the optimal buffer is a 5 mM phosphate buffer solution with pH 6.

Background: By examining 2018-2023 data, this study explored the intricate impact of the Russian invasion, ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and environmental disruptions on communicable diseases in Ukraine. This conflict exacerbates challenges in disease surveillance and healthcare, compounding stress among the population.
Methods: Leveraging the Centers for Disease Prevention Control's surveillance system, the study employs active and passive surveillance, utilizing medical records and laboratory reports.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that affects both humans and animals worldwide. Currently, a positional war is ongoing in Ukraine, and the military is encountering a significant number of rodents in trenches and dugouts, which are known reservoirs for , the causative agent of leptospirosis-a potentially dangerous infectious disease with a high mortality rate. The civilian population is also at potential risk of leptospirosis.

Leptospirosis is a major zoonotic disease caused by pathogenic spirochetes in the genus Leptospira, affecting over a million people annually and causing approximately 60,000 deaths. , a key causative agent, likely possesses defense systems against bacteriophages (leptophages), yet these systems are not well understood. We analyzed 402 genomes of using the DefenseFinder tool to identify and characterize the antiphage defense systems.

Myocardial infarction activates an intense fibro-inflammatory reaction that is essential for cardiac remodeling and heart failure (HF). Bioactive peptide galanin plays a critical role in regulating cardiovascular homeostasis; however, its specific functional relevance in post-infarction fibro-inflammatory reprogramming remains obscure. Here, we show that galanin coordinates the fibro-inflammatory trajectory and mitochondrial integrity in post-infarction reperfusion injury.

This mini-review explores the role of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Highlighting the microbiota-gut-brain axis, this study investigated the bidirectional communication between the gut microbiome and mental health. SCFAs, byproducts of gut microbial fermentation, have been examined for their potential impact on PTSD, with a focus on molecular mechanisms and therapeutic interventions.

While neurological complications of COVID-19, such as encephalopathy, are relatively rare, their potential significant impact on long-term morbidity is substantial, especially given the large number of infected patients. Two proposed hypotheses for the pathogenesis of this condition are hypoxia and the uncontrolled release of proinflammatory cytokines. The gut microbiota plays an important role in regulating immune homeostasis and overall gut health, including its effects on brain health through various pathways collectively termed the gut-brain axis.

Polymorphism investigation of T786C gene promoter of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS/NOS3) in the arterial hypertension is a promising field for determining the relationship between heredity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia, which still remains controversial. The purpose of the study was to investigate the lipid profile, which depends on the NOS3 T786C gene promotor region polymorphism in patients with arterial hypertension. The study involved 86 patients with arterial hypertension.

Aim: The aim of research was to study the relationship between the stress experienced by preterm infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and developmental status in the follow up, and to establish factors, associated with their neurodevelopment.
Methods: The first stage of research involved measuring stress markers (cortisol, melatonin) in infants ( = 56) during their NICU stay; the second phase assessed the developmental status at the corrected age of 24-30 months.
Results: The total ASQ-3 score, communication, problem solving, and personal-social skills scores at the corrected age of 24-30 months were positively correlated with melatonin level determined in the neonatal period ( = 0.
Objectives: The aim of the study was to establish an international multicenter registry to collect data on patients with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), in order to highlight a relationship between clinical presentation, age of onset and geographical distribution on the clinical outcome.
Study Design: Multicenter retrospective study involving different international societies for rare immunological disorders.1009 patients diagnosed with MIS-C between March and September 2022, from 48 centers and 22 countries were collected.
