Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) and circulating cell-free mitochondrial DNA (ccf-mtDNA) have attracted interest as biological markers of affective disorders. In response to stress, it is known that miRNAs in mitochondria diffuse out of the cytoplasm alongside mtDNA; however, this process has not yet been identified. We hypothesized that miRNAs derived from specific cell nuclei cause mitochondrial damage and mtDNA fragmentation under MDD-associated stress conditions.

Rotaxane Synthesis by an End-Capping Strategy via Swelling Axle-Phenols.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

July 2023

Institute for Chemical Research, Kyoto University, Gokasho, Uji, Kyoto, 611-0011, Japan.

A method for rotaxane synthesis by enlargement of the size of the terminal phenol group of the axle component by aromatic bromination has been developed. This method may be regarded as an end-capping strategy involving the swelling of the phenol group at the axle terminal. The advantages of the present strategy include: ready availability of axle components with a variety of swelling precursors, wide product scope (19 examples given including a [3]rotaxane), mild conditions for the swelling process, rich potential for the derivatization of the brominated rotaxanes, and possible release of the axle component by degradative dethreading of the thermally stable brominated rotaxanes under the basic conditions.

Effect of Post-diagnosis Physical Activity on Breast Cancer Recurrence: a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Curr Oncol Rep

November 2022

Department of Physical Therapy, School of Rehabilitation, Hyogo University of Health Sciences, 1-3-6 Minatojima, Chuo-ku, Kobe, Hyogo, 650-8530, Japan.

Purpose Of Review: Breast cancer (BC) recurrence dramatically decreases 5-year survival, which causes a fear of BC recurrence among a majority of BC survivors. Evidence is currently inconsistent on whether post-diagnosis recreational physical activity (rPA) can prevent BC recurrence due to the small number of included studies, as well as methodological heterogeneity among the studies. This systematic review aimed to clarify the association between post-diagnosis rPA and the risk of BC recurrence, by conducting a meta-analysis while controlling for the categories of rPA across the existing studies.

Construction of HGF-Displaying Yeast by Cell Surface Engineering.

Microorganisms

July 2022

Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Clinical Immunology, School of Medicine, Hyogo Medical University, Mukogawa-cho, Nishinomiya 663-8501, Japan.

Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) has been investigated as a regulator for immune reactions caused by transplantation and autoimmune diseases and other biological functions. Previous studies demonstrated that cDNA-encoding HGF administration could inhibit acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) after treatment via hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. This study aimed to show the preparation of HGF protein on yeast cell surfaces to develop a tool for the oral administration of HGF to a GVHD mouse model.
