This paper proposes an artificial electromyogram (EMG) signal generation model based on signal-dependent noise, which has been ignored in existing methods, by introducing the stochastic construction of the EMG signals. In the proposed model, an EMG signal variance value is first generated from a probability distribution with a shape determined by a commanded muscle force and signal-dependent noise. Artificial EMG signals are then generated from the associated Gaussian distribution with a zero mean and the generated variance.

Objectives: To examine the efficacy and safety of onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) injection into the bladder wall for the treatment of neurogenic detrusor overactivity secondary to spinal cord injury in Japanese patients.

Methods: We enrolled Japanese spinal cord injury patients with cystometrically confirmed neurogenic detrusor overactivity who experienced urinary incontinence at least once a week either because they were refractory to anticholinergics or had to discontinue treatment because of adverse events. Patients received 200 units of onabotulinumtoxinA injected into the bladder wall after a 2-week washout of anticholinergics, and urodynamic variables were assessed before and 1 month after injection.

This randomized controlled study was conducted to assess the effects of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on outcomes of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Forty patients who underwent unilateral TKA were evaluated prospectively; 20 received intraoperative PRP and 20 served as control subjects. The results showed no significant differences in reduction of bleeding, range of motion, swelling around the knee joint, muscle power recovery, pain, Knee Society Scores, and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score between the 2 groups.

Delayed posthypoxic leukoencephalopathy (DPL) is a rare and less well known complication of hypoxic brain injury. Although it is well known that anoxic or hypoxic injury produces acute neurologic deficits, DPL typically manifests days to weeks after apparent recovery from an obtunded state, and patients with DPL demonstrate cognitive impairment, high brain dysfunction, parkinsonism, or psychosis. MRI findings of the brain demonstrate deep white matter abnormalities.

The objectives of this study were to compare preoperative and postoperative knee kinematics for subjects implanted with flexion-enhanced posterior cruciate-retaining total knee arthroplasty during deep flexion and to examine flexion performance of the prosthesis design. Three-dimensional kinematics was analyzed by fluoroscopic examinations of subjects using a single-plane model-image registration technique. The influence of hip position on knee flexion angle before total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and that after TKA were investigated and compared. Sixty-six patients (70 knees) with osteoarthritis who were undergoing TKA were examined using lateral radiographs of maximum knee flexion angle with the hip joint at 0 degrees extension and 90 degrees flexion. The postoperative rate of decrease in knee flexion angle caused by hip extension was significantly larger compared with the value before surgery.

We treated a 64-year-old female with bilateral painful snapping elbows due to synovial folds. Resection of the bilateral synovial folds resulted in relief from pain and snapping, and resulted in patient satisfaction. Daily dumbbell exercises of the bilateral elbows starting at an elderly age may have led to the bilateral snapping.
