Heart failure patients are deficient in B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) but the significance of subclinical BNP deficiency is unclear. A total of 1,398 subjects without cardiovascular disease, with left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) ≥50% and BNP level <100 pg/mL, were selected from a 2005-2008 health checkup in Arita-cho, Japan, and divided into 2 groups: with and without LV diastolic dysfunction (DD+ or DD-). We performed propensity score matching on non-cardiac factors affecting BNP levels and analyzed 470 subjects in each group (372/940 men; median age, 66 years).

Developing treatment strategies for improving the prognosis of CDAC, we evaluated the characteristics of CDAC according to the underlying disease behavior, namely stricturing and penetrating.
Methods: This multicenter retrospective study comprises 316 CDAC patients who underwent surgery between 1985 and 2019.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the actual conditions of cardiac rehabilitation (CR) for elderly patients with heart failure (HF) in outpatient rehabilitation (OR) facilities using long-term care insurance systems. This was a cross-sectional web-based questionnaire survey conducted at 1,258 facilities in the Kansai region (6 prefectures) of Japan from October to December 2021. In all, 184 facilities responded to the web-based questionnaire (response rate 14.

Introduction: In Japanese patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), colectomy tends to be postponed or avoided.
Aim: This study aimed to clarify the current clinical practice from a Japanese multicenter cohort study database.
Methods: We analyzed the records of 250 patients with non-dense FAP who did not require colorectal cancer removal.
Aim: In Japan, we have not been able to validate the results of laparoscopic surgery for locally advanced rectal cancer using the universal index "circumferential resection margin (CRM)." Previously, we established a semi-opened circular specimen processing method and validated its feasibility. In the PRODUCT trial, we aimed to assess CRM in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer who underwent laparoscopic rectal resection.

Aim: Adhesive small bowel obstructions (SBO) are one of the most common complications following abdominal surgery, and they decrease patient quality of life. Since 2000, laparoscopic surgery has been employed with increasing frequency, as has adhesion prevention material (APM). In this study we tried to evaluate whether laparoscopic surgery and APM reduce the incidence of SBO.

Genomic profiling of AITL, DLBCL, and MDS samples revealed that the tumor cells from all samples shared common mutations in and . In addition, the mutation was observed in AITL, and mutation was observed in DLBCL and MDS.

We aimed to compare the influence of different sedation strategies using midazolam and propofol under light sedation on clinical outcomes of ventilated patients with sepsis.
Methods: This study was a analysis of data from the dexmedetomidine for sepsis in the ICU Randomized Evaluation (DESIRE) trial.
Background: Most gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) harbor a mutation in or platelet-derived growth factor receptor alfa (. Although genotyping is a useful predictive marker of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, whether it can predict prognosis remains controversial.
Methods: Data on 402 patients with GIST who underwent macroscopically complete surgery and received no neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy were selected from a prospective GIST database at the three, participating hospitals.

Background: In Japan, the mumps-containing vaccine was withdrawn from routine vaccination in 1993, and it became a voluntary vaccination. This study aimed to evaluate the association between the physicians' knowledge about vaccinations and the administration or recommendation of the mumps vaccine.
Methods: We conducted a nationwide cross-sectional study targeting primary care physicians (PCPs) in Japan.
In patients with a narrow sinotubular junction, small sinus of Valsalva, or extensibility loss in the aortic root, aortic valve replacement (AVR) with a standard valve is challenging due to limited surgical field. Detailed preoperative measurements of the aortic root render performing AVR using the Perceval valve easy.

Patients with triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) have a poor prognosis. A novel prognostic biomarker may guide management by appropriately selecting patients for particular treatments. Peripheral blood neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) was reported to associate with cancer progression, thus we hypothesized that intratumor genetic NLR will reflect tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and breast cancer biology.

Background: Previously, we conducted a randomized controlled trial (JCOG0404) for stage II/III colon cancer patients and reported that the long-term survival after open surgery (OP) and laparoscopic surgery (LAP) were almost identical; however, JCOG0404 suggested that survival of patients after LAP with tumors located in the rectosigmoid colon, cT4 or cN2 tumors, and high body mass index (BMI) might be unfavorable.
Aim: To identify the patient subgroups associated with poor long-term survival in the LAP arm compared with the OP arm.
Methods: Patients aged 20-75, clinical T3 or deeper lesion without involvement of other organs, clinical N0-2 and M0 were included.

Background/aim: Itraconazole shows anticancer activity in various types of cancer but its underlying mechanism is unclear. We investigated the effect of itraconazole on membrane-associated lipids.
Materials And Methods: To investigate the influences of itraconazole on cholesterol trafficking, cervical cancer CaSki cells were cultured with itraconazole and analyzed by Filipin staining followed by confocal microscopy.
Background No studies have explored the association between newly diagnosed infections after admission and clinical outcomes in patients with acute heart failure. We aimed to explore the factors associated with newly diagnosed infection after admission for acute heart failure, and its association with in-hospital and post-discharge clinical outcomes. Methods and Results Among 4056 patients enrolled in the Kyoto Congestive Heart Failure registry, 2399 patients without any obvious infectious disease upon admission were analyzed.

We investigated the association of early-life exposure (0-36 months old) to house dust mite allergen and endotoxin with asthma incidence.
Methods: In this novel, large-scale, nationwide birth cohort study, 5017 participants were randomly selected from those who met the eligibility criteria.
Background And Aims: Our study aimed to establish safer methods to manage home blood transfusion by using a remote vital signs data monitoring system. Home care is administered for patients with various medical disorders; however, home blood transfusion remains challenging owing to the risk of transfusion-related complications.
Methods: We set up a remote vital signs data monitoring system to improve the safety of home blood transfusions.
Background It remains controversial whether long-term clinical impact of newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation (AF) in the acute phase of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is different from that of prior AF diagnosed before the onset of AMI. Methods and Results The current study population from the CREDO-Kyoto AMI (Coronary Revascularization Demonstrating Outcome Study in Kyoto Acute Myocardial Infarction) Registry Wave-2 consisted of 6228 patients with AMI who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention. The baseline characteristics and long-term clinical outcomes were compared according to AF status (newly diagnosed AF: N=489 [7.
