Distal stent graft-induced new entry (dSINE), defined as a new tear caused by a stent graft, has been increasingly observed following total arch replacement using frozen elephant trunk (FET) for aortic dissection. We aimed to investigate the incidence and treatment of dSINE after the use of FET. This retrospective study evaluated 70 patients who underwent total arch replacement using FET for aortic dissection between August 2014 and March 2020.

Eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases are delayed-type chronic allergic disorders that show gastrointestinal eosinophil dense infiltration, with an exaggerated Th2-type immune reaction considered to be an important mechanism. These diseases can be roughly divided into two types: eosinophilic esophagitis, mainly found in young and middle-aged men, and eosinophilic gastroenteritis, which is found in both genders equally. A diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis is suspected when characteristic endoscopic findings, including longitudinal furrows and rings, are noted.

Background: Technological developments have led to an increased usage of external-body radiotherapy (RT) for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) may be required later in patients treated with RT because of the high recurrence rate and multinodular presentation of HCC. However, despite the risk of liver function impairment, the cumulative liver damage correlated with TACE following a hepatic RT has not been adequately assessed.

Venous aneurysms (VA), particularly superficial femoral VAs (SFVAs), are rare vascular lesions. A 65-year-old woman with a history of pulmonary embolism (PE), treated with tissue plasminogen activator and oral anticoagulation, was admitted to hospital for dyspnea. Enhanced computed tomography showed recurrent PE and right SFVA with a mural thrombus.

Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) and carotid artery stenting (CAS) are recommended for high stroke-risk patients with carotid artery stenosis to reduce ischemic events. However, we often face difficulty in determining the best treatment strategy. We aimed to develop an accurate post-CEA/CAS outcome prediction model using machine learning that will serve as a basis for a new decision support tool for patient-specific treatment planning.

Background: We previously reported that heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) phosphorylation plays an important role in the activation of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), resulting in the upregulation of the pentose phosphate pathway and antioxidant effects against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. The present study investigated the effect of geranylgeranylacetone, an inducer of HSP27, on ischemia-reperfusion injury in male rats as a preliminary study to see if further research of the effects of geranylgeranylacetone on the ischemic stroke was warranted.
Methods: In all experiments, male Wistar rats were used.

Anastomotic pseudoaneurysm and patch aneurysm are life-threatening complications following thoracoabdominal and descending thoracic aortic aneurysm (DTAA) repair. The aortic wall tissue is fragile in patients with Marfan syndrome, who are at high risk of anastomotic pseudoaneurysm and patch aneurysms. We experienced a rare case of ruptured pseudoaneurysm of the intercostal patch after DTAA repair in a patient with Marfan syndrome.

Background: Preoperative prediction of thromboembolic complications using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in coronary arteries and carotid arteries has been established. However, the technique has not been applied in peripheral arteries. This study aimed to assess the relationship between thromboembolic complications during endovascular treatment (EVT) for iliac artery occlusion and signal intensity on MRI.

An asymptomatic 70-year-old man presented with Kommerell's diverticulum (KD) and an aberrant left subclavian artery. Computed tomography revealed a KD diameter of 53 mm, severe aortic arch angulation, and no landing zone for thoracic endovascular aortic repair from the arch vessels to the diverticulum. We performed single-stage hybrid repair of KD of the right aortic arch, left carotid-left subclavian artery bypass, and embolization of the subclavian artery, followed by replacement of the descending aorta through deep hypothermic circulatory arrest via right thoracotomy.

Purpose: To evaluate the mid-term outcomes of transarterial embolization (TAE) for type II endoleak after endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) and investigate the predictors of sac enlargement after embolization.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of 55 patients [48 men and 7 women, median age 79.0 (interquartile ranges 74-82) years] who underwent TAE for type II endoleak from 2010 to 2018.

: To review our experience with a late open conversion as a final option for an endograft infection and aneurysm expansion after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), especially in endoleaks for which radiological intervention is impossible. : In this retrospective study, 13 late open conversions out of 513 consecutive patients treated by EVAR were analyzed. Indications for an open conversion were aneurysm enlargement, including all endoleaks, endograft migration, and endograft infection.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has become a useful and effective treatment for surgical high-risk patients with severe aortic valve stenosis (AS). Stroke is one of the most frequent complications associated with TAVI. Shaggy and porcelain aortas are a risk factor for procedure-related strokes.

New-onset antegrade Stanford type B aortic dissection (TBAD) after endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is rare. The extension of aortic dissection leads to various symptoms and affects the stent graft. Moreover, various symptoms may arise owing to a stent graft being present.

Background: Previous studies suggest that the pathophysiology of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is characterized not only by high ventricular stiffness, but also by vascular stiffness. Azilsartan has higher vascular affinity compared with other angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs), which were proven to have no beneficial effects on clinical outcomes in patients with HFpEF in earlier clinical trials. We aimed to test the hypothesis that azilsartan may improve left ventricular diastolic function in HFpEF patients with hypertension in this trial.

Endovascular fenestration on the abdominal aorta is effective for preventing visceral malperfusion in aortic dissection. We report a case of stented balloon fenestration before residual entry repair using the frozen elephant trunk technique for chronic aneurysmal dissection after ascending aortic replacement for DeBakey I aortic dissection. We recognized poor communication between the true lumen and false lumen in the abdominal aorta, and visceral perfusion depended almost entirely on the proximal large entry.

The aim of this study was to clarify the differences in thallium-201-chloride (thallium-201) myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) scans evaluated by conventional anger-type single-photon emission computed tomography (conventional SPECT) versus cadmium-zinc-telluride SPECT (CZT SPECT) imaging in normal databases for different ethnic groups. MPI scans from 81 consecutive Japanese patients were examined using conventional SPECT and CZT SPECT and analyzed with the pre-installed quantitative perfusion SPECT (QPS) software. We compared the summed stress score (SSS), summed rest score (SRS), and summed difference score (SDS) for the two SPECT devices.

Background: We aimed to determine the optimal thallium 201 chloride (thallium-201) dose using a novel ultrafast cardiac gamma camera with cadmium-zinc-telluride (CZT) solid-state semiconductor detectors (D-SPECT).
Methods And Results: The optimal thallium-201 dose for obtaining left ventricular (LV) myocardial counts was determined from a phantom study. Consecutive 292 patients underwent stress myocardial perfusion imaging with a thallium-201 injection.
