Background: New-onset postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) after coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) occurs with an incidence of 20-40%. The clinical relevance of POAF remains a concern, and the need for further studies regarding the clinical management of POAF is necessary.
Aim: The AFRODITE study, a prospective multicenter cohort study, had as its primary endpoint the evaluation of AF recurrence in patients post CABG over a one-year period.

Aims: The European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Interventions (EAPCI) Atlas of Interventional Cardiology has been developed to map interventional practice across European Society of Cardiology (ESC) member countries. Here we present the main findings of a 16-country survey in which we examine the national availability of interventional infrastructure, human resource, and procedure volumes.
Methods And Results: Sixteen ESC member countries participated in the EAPCI Atlas survey.

Background: In the RE-DUAL PCI trial of patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) who underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), dabigatran dual therapy (110 or 150 mg bid, plus clopidogrel or ticagrelor) reduced International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis bleeding events compared with warfarin triple therapy, with noninferiority in overall thromboembolic events. This analysis assessed outcomes in relation to patient bleeding and stroke risk profiles, based on the modified HAS-BLED and CHADS-VASc scores.
Methods: The primary endpoint, major bleeding event (MBE) or clinically relevant nonmajor bleeding event (CRNMBE), was compared across study arms in patients categorized by modified HAS-BLED score 0-2 or ≥3.

Fibrosis plays a fundamental role in the initiation and maintenance of AF, mainly due to enhanced automaticity and anisotropy-related re-entry. The identification and quantification of atrial fibrosis is achieved either preprocedurally by late gadolinium enhancement MRI or intraprocedurally using electroanatomic voltage mapping. The presence and extent of left atrial fibrosis among AF patients may influence relevant decision making regarding the need for anticoagulation, the adoption of rate versus rhythm control and mainly the type of ablation strategy that will be followed during interventional treatment.
