Background: In the decision to perform elective surgery, it is of great interest to have data about the outcomes of surgery to individualize patients who could safely undergo sigmoid resection. The aim of this study was to provide information on the outcomes of elective sigmoid resection for sigmoid diverticular disease (SDD) at a national level.
Methods: All consecutive patients who had elective surgery for SDD (2010-2021) were included in this retrospective, multicenter, cohort study.

Background: Prophylactic central neck dissection (pCND) remains controversial during the initial surgery for preoperative and intraoperative node-negative (cN0) papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC).
Methods: Patients undergoing thyroidectomy with or without pCND (Nx) for PTC in nine French surgical departments, registered in the EUROCRINE® national data in France between January 2015 and June 2021, were included in a cohort study. Demographic and clinicopathological characteristics, complications, and recurrence rates were compared using multivariate regression analysis.

Background: Data on infliximab efficacy in bio-exposed patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) are limited.
Aims: To evaluate infliximab effectiveness and its predictors in UC patients with prior exposure to subcutaneous (SC) anti-TNF agent.
Methods: In this multicenter retrospective study (8 centers), we included all consecutive UC patients with prior exposure to subcutaneous anti-TNF, starting infliximab for symptomatic UC, excluding acute severe colitis.

Purpose: Bladder cancer is a complex disease with a wide range of outcomes. Clinicopathological factors only partially explain the variability between patients in prognosis and treatment response. There is a need for large cohorts collecting extensive data and biological samples to: (1) investigate gene-environment interactions, pathological/molecular classification and biomarker discovery; and (2) describe treatment patterns, outcomes, resource use and quality of life in a real-world setting.

Baseline [F]FDG PET/CT radiomic features can improve the survival prediction in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The purpose of this study was to investigate whether characterizing tumor locations relative to the spleen location in baseline [F]FDG PET/CT images predicts survival in patients with DLBCL and improves the predictive value of total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV) and age-adjusted international prognostic index (IPI). This retrospective study included 301 DLBCL patients from the REMARC (NCT01122472) cohort.

Objectives: To evaluate follow-up after implantation of a sacral nerve modulation implantable pulse generator (IPG) and to investigate the reasons and risk factors for follow-up discontinuation.
Materials And Methods: All patients who underwent an IPG implantation to treat lower urinary tract symptoms between 2014-2019 within 6 hospital centers located in the district of "Hauts-de-France" (France) were systematically called during the year 2020 for a standardized (tele)consultation. Patients were divided into 3 distinct profiles according to the regularity of their 5-year postoperative follow-up: "Regular follow-up", "Irregular follow-up" and "Lost to follow-up".

Background: Patients with prostate cancer who have high-risk biochemical recurrence have an increased risk of progression. The efficacy and safety of enzalutamide plus androgen-deprivation therapy and enzalutamide monotherapy, as compared with androgen-deprivation therapy alone, are unknown.
Methods: In this phase 3 trial, we enrolled patients with prostate cancer who had high-risk biochemical recurrence with a prostate-specific antigen doubling time of 9 months or less.

Purpose: This study aimed to seek predictive factors and develop a predictive tool for sacral nerve modulation (SNM) implantation in patients with non-obstructive urinary retention and/or slow urinary stream (NOUR/SS).
Methods: This study was designed as a retrospective study including all patients who have undergone a two-stage SNM for NOUR/SS between 2000 and 2021 in 11 academic hospitals. The primary outcome was defined as the implantation rate.

Background: Anterior lumbosacral interbody fusion (ALIF) surgery is a predominant approach used in various indications such as treating discogenic back pain, spondylolisthesis, degenerative lumbar scoliosis, intervertebral foraminal stenosis, or spondylolysis. In comparison with posterior conventional approach, ALIF surgery has several advantages: direct access to the spine without muscle dissection, reduced blood loss, decreased postoperative pain, and improved fusion rates. Rare complications following ALIF surgery need to be reported, therefore the authors present an uncommon case of a ureteral injury diagnosed early after surgery and its management.

Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), encompassing ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), impose a substantial burden. Despite many effective molecules, significant numbers of patients do not achieve clinical remission at 1 year and undergo surgery during their lives, revealing an important unmet need and therapeutic gap. Multiple randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are ongoing or planned to develop more effective and tolerable therapies.

Background: The existence and prognosis of T1LG (T1 low-grade) bladder cancer is controversial. Also, because of data paucity, it remains unclear what is the clinical history of bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) treated T1LG tumors and if it differs from other NMIBC (non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer) representatives. The aim of this study was to analyse recurrence-free survival (RFS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in patients with T1LG bladder cancers treated with BCG immunotherapy.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are commonly used to treat patients with advanced urothelial cancer. However, a significant number of patients do not respond to ICI, and the lack of validated predictive biomarkers impedes the success of the ICI strategy alone or in combination with chemotherapy or targeted therapies. In addition, some patients experience potentially severe adverse events with limited clinical benefit.

Data regarding elderly melanoma patients treated with anti-PD-1 or anti-CTLA-4 antibodies are in favor of tolerability outcomes that are similar to those of younger counterparts. However, there are very few studies focusing on elderly patients receiving nivolumab combined with ipilimumab (NIVO + IPI). Here, we ask what are the current prescribing patterns of NIVO + IPI in the very elderly population and analyze the tolerance profile.

Background And Aims: The accumulation of multiple randomized controlled trials in the field of inflammatory bowel diseases provides an opportunity to compare treatment effects between phase 2 and 3 trials. We aimed to determine whether treatment effects observed in phase 3 investigating biologics and small molecule drugs differed from those in their preceding phase 2 trial.
Methods: We first performed a review of phase 2 and phase 3 trials enrolling ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn's disease (CD) patients.

Background: Mastocytosis and monoclonal mast cell (MC) activation syndrome (MMAS) are heterogeneous conditions characterized by the accumulation of atypical MCs. Despite the recurrent involvement of KIT mutations, the pathophysiologic origin of mastocytosis and MMAS is unclear. Although hereditary α-tryptasemia (HαT, related to TPSAB1 gene duplication) is abnormally frequent in these diseases, it is not known whether the association is coincidental or causal.

Introduction: Phase 2 trials are fundamental to the rational and efficient design of phase 3 trials. We aimed to determine the relationship of treatment effect size estimates from phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials on advanced therapeutics in inflammatory bowel disease.
Methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, and the Cochrane library were searched from inception to December 19, 2022, to identify paired phase 2 and 3 placebo-controlled induction studies of advanced therapeutics for Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC).

Introduction: Malignant tumors of the urinary tract are associated with high morbidity and mortality, and their prevalence can vary worldwide. Recently, the IDENTIFY study has published results on the prevalence of urinary tract cancer at a global level. This study evaluates the prevalence of cancer within the Spanish cohort of the IDENTIFY study to determine whether the published results can be extrapolated to our population.
