Doxycycline-induced gastric injury is a rarely recognized adverse effect of a common medication. Only 2 cases have previously described the distinctive capillary degeneration identified in gastric mucosa. We expanded on this by describing additional involved sites, endoscopic findings, and patient characteristics.

Background: The dual-probe fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) assay for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) gene amplification in breast cancer provides an HER2:CEP17 (centromere enumeration probe for chromosome 17) ratio. Copy number alteration (CNA) in CEP17 may skew this ratio. The authors analyzed the impact of the 2013 American Society of Oncology/College of American Pathologists (ASCO/CAP) guidelines and an alternative chromosome 17 probe on HER2 status in tumor specimens with CEP17 CNA.

The guideline development and revision include an extensive analysis of current medical literature from peer-reviewed journals and the application of well-established methodologies (RAND/UCLA Appropriateness Method and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation or GRADE) to rate the appropriateness of imaging and treatment procedures for specific clinical scenarios. In those instances where evidence is lacking or equivocal, expert opinion may supplement the available evidence to recommend imaging or treatment.

Purpose: Identify AML patients most likely to respond to CPX-351, a nano-scale liposome formulation containing cytarabine and daunorubicin co-encapsulated at a 5:1 molar ratio.
Methods: We examined the ex vivo cytotoxic activity of CPX-351 against leukemic cells isolated from 53 AML patients and an additional 127 samples including acute lymphoblastic leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome/myeloproliferative neoplasms, or chronic lymphocytic leukemia/lymphoma. We assessed activity with respect to common molecular lesions and used flow cytometry to assess CPX-351 cellular uptake.

Purpose: To provide updated American College of Radiology (ACR) appropriateness criteria for transrectal ultrasound-guided transperineal interstitial permanent source brachytherapy.
Methods And Materials: The ACR appropriateness criteria are evidence-based guidelines for specific clinical conditions that are reviewed every 3 years by a multidisciplinary expert panel. The guideline development and review include an extensive analysis of current medical literature from peer reviewed journals and the application of a well-established consensus methodology (modified Delphi) to rate the appropriateness of imaging and treatment procedures by the panel.
The standard of care for localized hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is surgical resection. For patients who decline or who are unfit for surgery, stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) is emerging as a viable treatment approach. We present a case of a 77-year-old female in whom an early stage HCC was incidentally discovered.

Purpose: Proton beam therapy (PBT) potentially allows for improved sparing of normal tissues, hopefully leading to decreased late side effects in children. Using a national registry, we sought to perform a patterns-of-care analysis for children receiving PBT for primary malignancies of the central nervous system (CNS).
Methods And Materials: Using the National Cancer Data Base, we identified pediatric patients with primary CNS malignancies that were diagnosed between 2004 and 2012.

The appropriate follow-up and treatment for patients with a core biopsy diagnosis of lobular neoplasia (atypical lobular hyperplasia or lobular carcinoma in situ) remains controversial. Several studies have attempted to address this issue, with recommendations ranging from close clinical follow-up or surveillance to mandatory surgical excision in all cases. We report the findings at our institution, where virtually every core needle biopsy diagnosis of lobular neoplasia results in follow-up excision.

Objectives: To identify common barriers to teaching and training and to identify strategies that would be useful in developing future training programs in gynecologic oncology in low- and middle- income countries.
Methods: There is a lack of overall strategy to meet the needs of education and training in gynecologic oncology in low- and middle- income countries, the leaderships of sister societies and global health volunteers met at the European Society of Gynecologic Oncology in October 23, 2015. The challenges of the training programs supported by gynecologic oncology societies, major universities and individual efforts were presented and discussed.

PET/CT has been shown to help localize head and neck cancers and provide more accurate staging, post-treatment assessment, and restaging than standard imaging. PET/CT detects synchronous and metachronous cancers and sequelae of therapy and provides prognostic information for each patient. Information provided by PET/CT allows for more individualized therapeutic and surveillance plans for patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
