Vascular Cognitive Impairment, Neurodegeneration and Healthy Brain Aging Program, Department of Neurosurgery, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Oklahoma City, OK, USA.

Long COVID (also known as post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection [PASC] or post-COVID syndrome) is characterized by persistent symptoms that extend beyond the acute phase of SARS-CoV-2 infection, affecting approximately 10% to over 30% of those infected. It presents a significant clinical challenge, notably due to pronounced neurocognitive symptoms such as brain fog. The mechanisms underlying these effects are multifactorial, with mounting evidence pointing to a central role of cerebromicrovascular dysfunction.

Introduction: Previous research on the visual processing of threats has largely overlooked the Q8 distinct effects of various types of threats, despite evidence suggesting unique brain activation patterns for specific fears. Our study examines the differential effects of threat types on attentional processes, focusing on snakes and blood-injury-injection (BII) stimuli. We sought to test whether these two types of threat stimuli, as taskirrelevant distractors, would lead to similar effects in a visual search task.

Background: The tachykinin substance P (SP) facilitates learning and memory processes after its central administration. Activation of its different receptive sites, neurokinin-1 receptors (NK1Rs), as well as NK2Rs and NK3Rs was shown to influence learning and memory. The basal ganglia have been confirmed to play an important role in the control of memory processes and spatial learning mechanisms, and as part of the basal ganglia, the globus pallidus (GP) may also be involved in this regulation.

Maternally activated connections of the ventral lateral septum reveal input from the posterior intralaminar thalamus.

Brain Struct Funct

January 2025

Department of Physiology and Neurobiology, Laboratory of Molecular and Systems Neurobiology, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Hungary.

The lateral septum (LS) demonstrates activation in response to pup exposure in mothers, and its lesions eliminate maternal behaviors suggesting it is part of the maternal brain circuitry. This study shows that the density of pup-activated neurons in the ventral subdivision of the LS (LSv) is nearly equivalent to that in the medial preoptic area (MPOA), the major regulatory site of maternal behavior in rat dams. However, when somatosensory inputs including suckling were not allowed, pup-activation was markedly reduced in the LSv.

Using an acid to stimulate a heterogeneous carbonate reservoir during matrix acidizing may lead to over-treating the high permeability zones, leaving low permeability zones untreated. This is particularly exacerbated in long horizontal sections, necessitating the use of acid diverters for effective acid distribution across the formation. In previous studies, conventional core flooding systems were utilized where single inlet and outlet lines were used or, at best, two outlet lines for dual-core flooding.

Background: From several decades, the evolutions of the Incidence Rate (IR) of Primary Knee Arthroplasties are continuously increasing worldwide and have been widely studied in several countries. Some recent works have highlighted the fact that the IR is following a sigmoid curve composed of an exponential growth followed by a linear phase and finished by a plateau. Our objective is to assess the IR evolution of eleven European countries, representing thus a large proportion of this continent, regarding this sigmoid.

Genotype-dependent resilience mediated by melatonin in sweet corn.

BMC Plant Biol

January 2025

Department of Applied Plant Biology, Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences and Environmental Management, University of Debrecen, Debrecen, Hungary.

Background: Water deficits, exacerbated by climate change and unpredictable weather, have become a significant global challenge to agricultural productivity. In this context, exogenous melatonin treatment is well documented as a stress alleviator; however, its effects on various biological processes, particularly in less-explored genotypes, remain understudied. This study aimed to enhance water deficit resilience in sweet corn by applying foliar melatonin to four genotypes-Messenger, Dessert, Royalty, and Tyson under two levels of water deprivation induced by polyethylene glycol at 8% and 12% concentrations in a hydroponic, controlled environment.
