Article Synopsis
  • The Yellow River Delta significantly influenced the Neolithic civilization in China, but its population history remains unclear due to limited ancient genome data.
  • This study presents genome-wide data from 69 ancient individuals and 325 modern individuals in Shandong, revealing a notable influx of ancestry from central and southern China during key Neolithic periods.
  • Genetic analysis indicates that the Longshan culture is closely related to the Dawenkou culture, with post-Neolithic migrations shaping the region's genetic diversity and modern populations.

Objective: The primary objective of this inquiry was to explore the nexus between authorship attribution in medical literature and accountability for scientific impropriety while assessing the influence of authorial multiplicity on the severity of sanctions imposed.

Methods: Probit regression models were employed to scrutinize the impact of authorship on assuming accountability for scientific misconduct, and unordered multinomial logistic regression models were used to examine the influence of authorship and the number of bylines on the severity of punitive measures.

Results: First authors and corresponding authors were significantly more likely to be liable for scientific misconduct than other authors and were more likely to be penalized particularly severely.

Given the significance of nitrogen (N) as the most constraining nutrient in agro-ecosystems, it is crucial to develop an updated model for N fertilizers management to achieve higher crop yields while minimizing the negative impacts on the environment. Coated urea is touted as one of the most important controlled-release N fertilizers used in agriculture to reduce cropland emissions and improve nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) for optimal crop yields. The sustainability of coated urea depends on the trade-offs between crop productivity, NUE and greenhouse gas emissions (CO, CH and NO); however, role of various agro-edaphic factors in influencing these trade-offs remains unclear.

The downregulation of SCGN induced by lipotoxicity promotes NLRP3-mediated β-cell pyroptosis.

Cell Death Discov

July 2024

Department of Metabolism and Endocrinology, The First Affiliated Hospital, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China, Hengyang, 421001, Hunan, China.

Lipotoxicity is a well-established phenomenon that could exacerbate damage to islet β-cells and play a significant role in the development of type 2 diabetes, the underlying mechanisms of which, however, remain unclear. In lipotoxic conditions, secretagogin (SCGN), an EF-hand calcium-binding protein abundantly expressed in islets, is found to undergo downregulation. In light of this, we aim to explore the role of SCGN in lipotoxicity-induced β-cell injury.

The present study aimed to investigate the variations in the nutritional composition, antioxidant capacity, and metabolite profile of lilies subjected to different drying treatments, including vacuum freeze drying (VFD), hot air drying (HAD), vacuum drying (VD), and infrared drying (ID). The results show that VFD provided better preservation of the original coloration and displayed the highest levels of total amino acid content, total phenolic content, total flavonoid content, and polysaccharide and alkaloid content. Our results reveal that VFD treatment can be employed to obtain high-quality lilies with desirable appearance characteristics and nutrient compositions.

Electronic address:

Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is a major cause of liver damage during hepatic resection, transplantation, and other surgical procedures, often leading to graft failure and liver dysfunction. Recent studies have identified ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death characterized by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation, as a key contributor to IRI. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of Ticlopidine, a thienopyridine compound and platelet aggregation inhibitor, on hepatic IRI.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a multidrug-resistant bacterium that causes a wide range of illnesses, necessitating the development of new technologies for its detection. Herein, we propose a graphene oxide (GO)-based sensing platform for the detection of mecA gene in MRSA using flap endonuclease 1 (FEN1)-assisted target recycling and Klenow fragment (KF)-triggered signal amplification. Without the target, all the DNA probes were adsorbed onto GO, resulting in fluorescence quenching of the dye.
