Artificial intelligence and positive psychology play crucial roles in education, yet there is limited research on how these psychological factors influence learners' use of AI, particularly in language education. Grounded in self-determination theory, this study investigates the factors influencing Chinese English learners' intention to use AI for language learning. Utilizing structural equation modeling, this research examines the mediating roles of grit, flow, and resilience in the relationship between basic psychological needs and the intention to use AI.

June 2024

Clinical Nursing Teaching and Research Section, Second Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha 410011.

Objectives: Compared with long-term renal replacement therapy, kidney transplantation is the ideal treatment for end-stage renal disease (ESRD), significantly extending patient life and improving quality of life. Kidney transplant patients need to adhere to lifelong immunosuppressive medication regimens, but their medication adherence is generally poor compared with other organ transplant recipients. Medication adherence is closely related to medication literacy and psychological status, yet related studies are limited.

Contamination of soils with antimony (Sb) is becoming increasingly severe and widespread, and the associated ecological risks cannot be ignored. To evaluate how different Sb forms affected the earthworm in soil, the biomarker response index (BRI), effect addition index (EAI), and microbial diversity were characterized after single and joint application of Sb(III) and Sb(V). The results showed that Sb(III) was better enriched by earthworms than Sb(V).

Long-form audio recordings are increasingly used to study individual variation, group differences, and many other topics in theoretical and applied fields of developmental science, particularly for the description of children's language input (typically speech from adults) and children's language output (ranging from babble to sentences). The proprietary LENA software has been available for over a decade, and with it, users have come to rely on derived metrics like adult word count (AWC) and child vocalization counts (CVC), which have also more recently been derived using an open-source alternative, the ACLEW pipeline. Yet, there is relatively little work assessing the reliability of long-form metrics in terms of the stability of individual differences across time.

Environ Res

December 2024

School of Management Science and Engineering, Beijing Information Science and Technology University, Beijing, 102206, China; Beijing Key Laboratory of Big Data Decision Making for Green Development, Beijing, 100192, China. Electronic address:

Realizing a synergistic reduction of air pollutant and CO emissions (APCE) is an important approach to promote a green socio-economic transformation in China, and it can provide a solid foundation for the achievement of clean energy production and climate action under a sustainable development goal framework. The objective of this study is to explore the quantitative relationship and evolution of synergies between APCE in industrial sectors driven by different socio-economic effects from 2007 to 2020 in China. The results indicated that the main sectors of pollutant emissions had consistency, however, large differences in the reduction efficiency of emissions exist among pollutants.

Dynamic protected states in the non-Hermitian system.

Sci Rep

September 2024

School of Science, Jiangnan University, Wuxi, 214122, China.

The non-Hermitian skin effect and nonreciprocal behavior are sensitive to the boundary conditions, which are unique features of non-Hermitian systems. In such systems, eigenenergies can become complex, and all eigenstates tend to localize at the boundary, a phenomenon that contrasts with Hermitian topologies. In this work, we theoretically study the dynamic behavior of the propagation of Gaussian wavepackets inside a non-Hermitian lattice and analyze the self-acceleration process of bulk state or Gaussian wavepackets toward the system's boundary.

Chinese Ethical Civilization Research Center, Key Research Base of the Humanities and Social Sciences of the Ministry of Education, Hunan Normal University, China; Research Base for Mental Health Education of Hunan Province, Changsha, China; Cognition and Human Behavior Key Laboratory of Hunan Province, Hunan Normal University, Changsha, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Bullying among adolescents is a major public health issue, and this study investigates how child maltreatment (CM) influences bullying and victimization behaviors in a dynamic way throughout adolescence.
  • Using a weekly diary method, researchers analyzed data from 452 junior high students in China over 7 weeks to understand the relationship between CM, bullying, victimization, and personality traits.
  • The results revealed that CM not only directly predicted increased bullying and victimization but also had indirect effects by shaping personality traits such as openness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism, highlighting the need for preventive strategies in schools.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the relationship between body image flexibility and body dissatisfaction among Chinese adolescents over 18 months, addressing gaps in existing research focused primarily on Western contexts.
  • It reveals that for boys, higher body image flexibility at the start is linked to less dissatisfaction with body fat later, while for girls, dissatisfaction with body fat and muscularity initially impacts body image flexibility in the future.
  • Overall, the findings highlight the complex, bi-directional relationship between body image flexibility and dissatisfaction in both genders, with no significant differences found between boys and girls.

  • - The study aimed to assess how effective and safe teriparatide is for treating postmenopausal osteoporosis compared to other treatments, using data from randomized controlled trials up to January 2023.
  • - Analysis of 23 trials revealed that teriparatide significantly improved bone mineral density (BMD) in the lumbar spine and femoral neck, but not in total hip and radial BMD, with an increase in certain bone turnover markers.
  • - Although teriparatide treatment led to a higher risk of adverse events, it also significantly reduced fracture rates, suggesting that it is beneficial for high-risk osteoporosis patients, while more research is needed to explore its long-term effects.

Background: Using event-related potentials (ERPs), we aimed to investigate audiovisual integration neural mechanisms during a letter identification task in the left and right sides. Unimodal (A,V) and bimodal (AV) stimuli were presented on either side, with ERPs from unimodal (A,V) stimuli on the same side being compared to those from simultaneous bimodal stimuli (AV). Non-zero results of the AV-(A + V) difference waveforms indicated audiovisual integration on the left/right side.

Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of human complex traits or diseases often implicate genetic loci that span hundreds or thousands of genetic variants, many of which have similar statistical significance. While statistical fine-mapping in individuals of European ancestry has made important discoveries, cross-population fine-mapping has the potential to improve power and resolution by capitalizing on the genomic diversity across ancestries. Here we present SuSiEx, an accurate and computationally efficient method for cross-population fine-mapping.

School of Foreign Languages, Hunan University, Lushannan Road No. 2, Yuelu District, Changsha City, Hunan Province, China.

Age, babble noise, and working memory have been found to affect the recognition of emotional prosody based on non-tonal languages, yet little is known about how exactly they influence tone-language-speaking children's recognition of emotional prosody. In virtue of the tectonic theory of Stroop effects and the Ease of Language Understanding (ELU) model, this study aimed to explore the effects of age, babble noise, and working memory on Mandarin-speaking children's understanding of emotional prosody. Sixty Mandarin-speaking children aged three to eight years and 20 Mandarin-speaking adults participated in this study.
