Spread through air spaces (STAS) is a distinct invasion pattern in lung cancer, crucial for prognosis assessment and guiding surgical decisions. Histopathology is the gold standard for STAS detection, yet traditional methods are subjective, time-consuming, and prone to misdiagnosis, limiting large-scale applications. We present VERN, an image analysis model utilizing a feature-interactive Siamese graph encoder to predict STAS from lung cancer histopathological images.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances exacerbate the prevalence of plasmid-borne antibiotic resistance genes by enhancing natural transformation,in vivo stability, and expression in bacteria.

Water Res

December 2024

College of Environmental Science and Engineering and Key Laboratory of Environmental Biology and Pollution Control (Ministry of Education), Hunan University, Changsha 410082, China. Electronic address:

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) as emerging pollutants are ubiquitous and disrupt biological processes across water boundaries. Their coexistence with antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in water matrix is associated with the spread of ARGs via conjugative transfer, posing a threat to public health. However, their role in natural transformation-where microorganisms actively take up extracellular ARGs (eARGs)-and the subsequent persistence and expression of ARGs after transformation remains poorly understood.

Root metabolites regulated by FERONIA promote phosphorus-solubilizing rhizobacteria enrichment induced by Arabidopsis thaliana coping with phosphorus deficiency.

Microbiol Res

December 2024

College of Biology, Hunan Province Key Laboratory of Plant Functional Genomics and Developmental Regulation, Hunan University, Changsha 410082, China. Electronic address:

The recruitment of the phosphorus-solubilizing rhizobacteria plays an important role in response to phosphorus deficiency. Through the treatments of Arabidopsis thaliana (Col-0) and the FERONIA (FER) functional deficient mutants (fer-4 and fer-5) with the soil suspension in various phosphorus conditions, we discovered that FER could promote phosphorus-solubilizing rhizobacteria enrichment to rescue the defective plant during phosphorus deficiency. The amplicon sequencing data reflected that the phosphorus-solubilizing rhizobacterial genus Alcaligenes was significantly enriched of Col-0 than fer-4 in low phosphorus conditions.

Tunable Topological Transitions Probed by the Quantum Hall Effect in Twisted Double Bilayer Graphene.

Nano Lett

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Surface Physics and Department of Physics, Fudan University, Shanghai 200433, China.

The moiré system provides a tunable platform for investigating exotic quantum phases. Particularly, the displacement field is crucial for tuning the electronic structures and topological properties of twisted double bilayer graphene (TDBG). Here, we present a series of -tunable topological transitions by the evolution of quantum Hall phases (QHPs) in the valence bands of TDBG.

Bio-Inspired Multiple Responsive NIR II Nanophosphors for Reversible and Environment-Interactive Information Encryption.

Adv Mater

December 2024

College of Chemistry and Molecular Sciences, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Institute of Molecular Medicine, School of Microelectronics, Wuhan University, Wuhan, 430072, P. R. China.

Inspired by the natural responsive phenomena, herein the multiple responsive persistent luminescent ZnGaGeO:Ni (ZGGO:Ni) nanoparticles with near-infrared  (NIR) II emission peak ≈1330 nm derived from the Ni doping through controlled synthesis based on hydrothermal method are obtained. The obtained NIR II persistent luminescent ZGGO:Ni can not only respond to temperature but also the specific solvent stimulus. The results demonstrate that the NIR II persistent luminescence intensity decreases in hydroxyl containing solvent such as water (HO) and ethyl alcohol (CHO), while the PL intensity remains in solvent without hydroxyl groups such as n-hexane (CH) and deuterated water (DO).

Error self-correction is crucial for analyzing long-read sequencing data, but existing methods often struggle with noisy data or are tailored to technologies like PacBio HiFi. There is a gap in methods optimized for Nanopore R10 simplex reads, which typically have error rates below 2%. We introduce DeChat, a novel approach designed specifically for these reads.

The evaluation of the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) has long been a "bottleneck" issue that restricts the healthy development and internationalization of TCM. This article systematically analyzes the differences in diagnostic and treatment principles, material composition, new drug development pathways, efficacy cognition, and evaluation methodology between Chinese and Western medicine from the underlying logic of medical perspective. On this basis, it integrates the evidence elements of clinical experience, experimental research, and clinical trials, and for the first time proposes and establishes a new strategy and methodology for the evaluation of the effectiveness of TCM: the integrated evidence chain-based effectiveness evaluation of traditional Chinese medicine(iEC-Eff), forming an integrated evaluation and confirmation model of "clinical experience-experimental research-clinical trial" for the effectiveness of TCM.

Anal Chem

December 2024

Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, Key Laboratory of Zhejiang Province for Aptamers and Theranostics, Hangzhou Institute of Medicine (HIM), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Hangzhou, Zhejiang 310022, P. R. China.

As severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection posed a significant threat to public health and the global economy, in vitro diagnosis of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein proved to be an effective way for SARS-CoV-2 infection control in the past years. Tyramide signal amplification (TSA) has been extensively utilized in tissue imaging and pathological diagnosis owing to the powerful signal enhancement. However, the elevated "ALWAYS ON" fluorescence background limited the accuracy and sensitivity of the conventional TSA assay.
