The Cancer Research Institute and the Second Affiliated Hospital, Hengyang Medical School, University of South China (USC), Hengyang, Hunan, 421001, China.

The cathepsin family comprises lysosomal proteases that play essential roles in various physiological processes, including protein degradation, antigen presentation, apoptosis, and tissue remodeling. Dysregulation of cathepsin activity has been linked to a variety of pathological conditions, such as cancer, autoimmune diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders. Understanding the functions of cathepsins is crucial for gaining insights into their roles in both health and disease, as well as for developing targeted therapeutic approaches.

This study explored the causal relationships among primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), ulcerative colitis (UC), and hepatobiliary cancer (HBC) by using bidirectional two-sample, two-step Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. Genetic variants associated with PSC and UC from the FinnGen research database were used for instrumental variable-based analyses. Mediation analyses were conducted to examine the role of PSC and UC in HBC risk.

Osteoarthritis (OA) has been the most common arthritis affecting public health all over the world. Previous experimental research reported that increased low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, along with decreased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol may be associated with increased ectopic bone formation and possible knee OA, while clinical evidence is absent. This study aimed to investigate the association between blood high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and OA.

Electronic address:

Advanced atherosclerosis is the pathological basis for acute cardiovascular events, with significant residual risk of recurrent clinical events despite contemporary treatment. The death of foamy macrophages is a main contributor to plaque progression, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing demonstrated that massive iron accumulation in advanced atherosclerosis promoted foamy macrophage ferroptosis, particularly in low expression of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) foamy macrophages.

Unlabelled: Ischemic stroke ranks as the second leading cause of global mortality and disability. Although reperfusion is crucial for salvaging brain tissue, it carries the risk of secondary injuries, such as ferroptosis. Gastrodin, a neuroprotective compound found in Chinese herbal medicine, may regulate this process.

Background: Selinexor is a selective inhibitor of exportin-1 (XPO1), a key mediator of the nucleocytoplasmic transport for molecules critical to tumor cell survival. Selinexor's lethality is generally associated with the induction of apoptosis, and in some cases, with autophagy-induced apoptosis. We performed this study to determine Selinexor's action in glioblastoma (GBM) cells, which are notoriously resistant to apoptosis.

Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) represents one of the most common subtypes of lung cancer with high rates of incidence and mortality, which contributes to substantial health and economic demand across the globe. Treatment today mainly consists of surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy, but their efficacy in advanced stages is often suboptimal and emphasizes the clear need for new biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Using comprehensive bioinformatics analyses consisting of the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO), Human Protein Atlas (HPA) and Clinical Proteomic Tumor Analysis Consortium (CPTAC), immune infiltration analysis and functional enrichment analysis, and single-cell analysis, we examined the potential of keratin 18 (KRT18) as a candidate biomarker in advanced LUAD.
