Ponicidin has demonstrated effectiveness against HCC by promoting mitochondria apoptosis and generating ROS through the stabilization of the Keap1-PGAM5 complex. However, ROS can exhibit both tumor-promoting and tumor-suppressing activities in cancers, and exhibit different effects depending on its source-mtROS vs non-mtROS. Additionally, since ROS from different sources possesses distinct functions, mitochondria-targeted antioxidants, and non-targeted antioxidants may have entirely different effects on cancer progression.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) constitutes approximately 75-85% of primary liver cancers and is a heavy burden on public health. Many innovative prediction systems have integrated radiomics, artificial intelligence, pathological information, or even genetic information for the stratification and prognosis prediction of patients with HCC. However, these systems still lack practical and clinical applications.

Objective: We sought to assess the impact of dietary risk on the worldwide burden of stroke, focusing specifically on ischemic stroke.
Methods: Utilizing information from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 (GBD2021), we evaluated the age-standardized death rate (ASDR), the age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) rate, and the age, sex, and regional distribution of the estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) of the stroke burden linked to dietary risk from 1990 to 2021.
Results: The global overall ASDR and the age-standardized DALY rate per 100,000 population for stroke linked to dietary risk from 1990 to 2021 exhibited a declining trend [EAPC = -1.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a powerful strategy for tumor therapy with noninvasiveness and desirable efficacy. However, the phototoxicity of photosensitizer after the post-PDT is the major obstacle limiting the clinic applications. Herein, a nitric oxide (NO)-activatable photosensitizer is reported with turn-on PDT behavior and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) targeting ability for precise tumor therapy.
