CSNK2B, which encodes the beta subunit of casein kinase II (CK2), plays an important role in neuron morphology and synaptic transmission. Variants in CSNK2B associated with epilepsy and/or intellectual disability (ID)/developmental delay (DD) have been reported in five cases only. Among the 816 probands suspected hereditary epilepsy whose initial report of trio-based whole exome sequencing (WES) were negative, 10 de novo pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants of CSNK2B in nine probands were identified after reanalysis of their raw Trio-WES data.

Objective: Published research has not considered acute diseases and injuries in assessing the impact of varying disease counts on health-related quality of life (HRQoL). We used Chinese value sets of EQ-5D-3L to examine the relationship between the number of diseases individuals had (including chronic diseases, acute diseases and injuries) and their HRQoL.
Methods: A total of 19 387 individuals aged 18 years and older were included in the study.

Autoimmune diseases are characterized by aberrant immune responses against healthy cells and tissues. However, the exact mechanisms underlying the development of these conditions remain unknown. CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells (Tregs) are a subset of mature T cells which have an important role in maintaining immune homeostasis and preventing autoimmune diseases.

Objective: To investigate the impact of continuous blood purification (CBP) on T-cell subsets and prognosis in children with severe sepsis.
Methods: A total of 42 children with severe sepsis were randomly divided into a control group (n=22) and a CBP group (n=20). The patients in the control group received conventional treatment, while those in the CBP group underwent continuous veno-venous hemofiltration daily 12-24 hours for 3 days besides conventional treatment.
