One-dimensional Co-B amorphous alloy nanowires (NWs) were prepared using surfactant as a template and were treated with plasma to study the effect of different treatment times on the essential physical and chemical properties of the catalyst. The study showed that plasma with a certain amount of strength will not change the morphology and amorphous structure of the NWs within the chosen treatment time. It could, however, modify the electronic structure and active sites of the catalyst surface, increase its specific surface area and H adsorption capacity, and also improve the selective hydrogenation performance of cinnamaldehyde.

Purpose: Armed with the theory of embodied cognition proposing tight interactions between perception, motor, and cognition, this study aimed to test the hypothesis that speech rate-altered Mandarin lexical tone perception in quiet and noisy environments could be affected by the bodily dynamic cross-modal information.

Method: Fifty-three adult listeners completed a Mandarin tone perception task with 720 tone stimuli in auditory-only (AO), auditory-facial (AF), and auditory-facial-plus-gestural (AFG) modalities, at fast, normal, and slow speech rates under quiet and noisy conditions. In AF and AFG modalities, both congruent and incongruent audiovisual information were designed and presented.

CAS Key Laboratory of Agro-ecological Processes in Subtropical Region, Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Hunan Province Key Laboratory of Animal Nutritional Physiology and Metabolic Process, National Engineering Laboratory for Pollution Control and Waste Utilization in Livestock and Poultry Production, Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changsha 410125, China.

Reportedly, proteins involved in lipid metabolism change significantly in the jejunal crypt cells of early-weaned piglets, but the exact lipid profile change remains uncertain. In the present study, 32 piglets weaned at 21 d of age were randomly divided into 4 groups with 8 replicates. The jejunal crypt cells of a group of piglets on the post-weaning day (PWD) 1, 3, 7, and 14 were isolated per time point.

Exercise intervention mitigates zebrafish age-related sarcopenia via alleviating mitochondrial dysfunction.

FEBS J

March 2023

Key Laboratory of Physical Fitness and Exercise Rehabilitation of the Hunan Province, College of Physical Education, Hunan Normal University, Changsha, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Sarcopenia, a significant disorder in older adults, causes a gradual decline in muscle function, but exercise can help prevent or slow its development.
  • A study using 21-month-old zebrafish showed that they experience reduced swimming ability, muscle deterioration, and increased oxidative stress, making them a useful model for studying sarcopenia.
  • After eight weeks of exercise, the zebrafish displayed improvements, with changes in mitochondrial function linked to the activation of certain cellular pathways, suggesting new targets for treating age-related sarcopenia through exercise.

Transcriptome Profile Analysis of Intestinal Upper Villus Epithelial Cells and Crypt Epithelial Cells of Suckling Piglets.

Animals (Basel)

September 2022

Key Laboratory for Agro-Ecological Processes in Subtropical Regions, Institute of Subtropical Agriculture, The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changsha 410125, China.

It is well known that the small intestinal epithelial cells of mammals rapidly undergo differentiation, maturation, and apoptosis. However, few studies have defined the physiological state and gene expression changes of enterocytes along the crypt-villus axis in suckling piglets. In the present study, we obtained the intestinal upper villus epithelial cells (F1) and crypt epithelial cells (F3) of 21-day suckling piglets using the divalent chelation and precipitation technique.

Background: Previous work has indicated that a negative parenting style is associated with antisocial personality disorder features in Chinese college students, yet few studies have explored the unique role of negative mothering in children's antisocial personality disorder.

Methods: The current study mainly examined the sequential mediation effect of parental antipathy and neglect (PAN) and mother negative loving (a form of insecure attachment) in the association between mother control and adulthood antisocial personality disorder features (ASPD features) in the framework of attachment theory and cognitive-behavioral theory. A community sample of 1547 Chinese college students filled in the Parental Bonding Instrument, the Childhood Experience of Care and Abuse Questionnaire, the Adult Attachment Questionnaire and the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-4+.

At present, the application of phytoremediation technology in the ecological remediation of heavy metal tailings is receiving more and more attention. In this study, the physiological and biochemical response and tolerance mechanism of woody plant Nerium indicum to Pb and Zn under different proportions of inorganic modifier calcium carbonate (C1: 5%, C2: 10%, C3: 15%) and organic modifier mushroom residue (M1: 10%, M2: 20%, M3: 30%) was compared. The results showed that the pH value has a trend of C group > M group > CK group and organic matter has a trend of M group > CK group > C group.

Autophagy regulates rRNA synthesis.

Nucleus

December 2022

Department of Biochemistry, and Department of Thoracic Surgery of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

Autophagy has emerged as a key regulator of cell metabolism. Recently, we have demonstrated that autophagy is involved in RNA metabolism by regulating ribosomal RNA (rRNA) synthesis. We found that autophagy-deficient cells display much higher 47S precursor rRNA level, which is caused by the accumulation of SQSTM1/p62 (sequestosome 1) but not other autophagy receptors.

Copper-Catalyzed Nitrogen Atom Transfer to Isoquinolines via C-N Triple Bond Cleavage and Three-Component Cyclization.

Org Lett

August 2022

Advanced Catalytic Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hunan University, Changsha 410082, China.

A copper(I)-catalyzed tandem reaction of 2-bromoaryl ketones, terminal alkynes, and CHCN is developed, which combines N atom transfer and three-component [3 + 2 + 1] cyclization, and efficiently produces densely functionalized isoquinolines in a facile, highly selective, and general manner. In the reaction, the formation of aromatic C-N bonds along with the complete C-N triple bond cleavage is first realized; Cu(III)-acetylide species might serve as the intermediates, which allow highly selective 6-- cyclization.

Acne vulgaris, the most common skin disease, can cause substantial economic and psychological impacts to the people it affects, and its accurate grading plays a crucial role in the treatment of patients. In this paper, we firstly proposed an acne grading criterion that considers lesion classifications and a metric for producing accurate severity ratings. Due to similar appearance of acne lesions with comparable severities and difficult-to-count lesions, severity assessment is a challenging task.
