Systematic research is still lacking on the content of hydrophilic compounds in Fu Brick Tea (FBT) from major Chinese production regions and their variation patterns during the processing of FBT. This study utilized optimized non-targeted (UHPLC-Q-Exactive Orbitrap-MS) and targeted (UHPLC-QqQ-MS) metabolomics to analyze 73 FBT samples from six regions of China and 30 samples from different stages of FBT processing. 573 and 74 hydrophilic compounds were respectively relatively and absolutely quantified for the first time.

To investigate the regulatory mechanism mediated by hypothalamic OPN5 on seasonal changes in the reproductive activities of domestic geese, 60 Magang ganders in their breeding period were selected for the experiment and evenly divided into an immunization group(OPN5-IM) and a control group. On days 0, 15 and 30, ganders in the immunized group were immunized with OPN5-KLH protein vaccine, and ganders in the control were immunized with the same amount of blank emulsified vaccine. To investigate the structural and functional similarities of microbial communities in burnt-sweetness alcoholized tobacco as a function of distance from the equator and their effects on tobacco quality, we sampled alcoholized tobacco from Chenzhou, Hunan Province, China and from Brazil and Zimbabwe, which are also burnt-sweetness-type tobacco producing regions, and performed high-throughput sequencing of tobacco bacterial and fungal communities along with an analysis of the main chemical constituents of the tobacco to analyze differences in the quality of the tobacco and similarities in the structure of the microbial communities. The total nitrogen, nicotine and starch contents of Chenzhou tobacco were greater than those of Brazilian and Zimbabwean tobacco, and the total sugar and reducing sugar contents of the Brazilian and Zimbabwean tobacco were greater than those of the Chenzhou tobacco (P < 0.05).

Nevertheless, emerging evidence suggests that lard may not significantly contribute to diabetes and that moderate lard intake could even benefit lipid metabolism. This commentary suggests a reevaluation of lard’s classification as a “bad actor” in the context of diabetes, urging colleagues to give greater consideration to and empirically validate this intriguing hypothesis.
