Chemotherapy remains a prevalent treatment for a wide range of tumors; however, the majority of patients undergoing conventional chemotherapy experience varying levels of chemoresistance, ultimately leading to suboptimal outcomes. The present article provided an in‑depth review of chemotherapy resistance in tumors, emphasizing the underlying factors contributing to this resistance in tumor cells. It also explored recent advancements in the identification of key molecules and molecular mechanisms within the primary chemoresistant pathways.

Oxidative stress is a major factor leading to inflammation and disease occurrence, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) is a crucial antioxidative metalloenzyme capable of alleviating oxidative stress. In this study, a novel thermostable SOD gene is obtained from the Hydrogenobacter thermophilus strain (HtSOD), transformed and efficiently expressed in Escherichia coli with an activity of 3438 U mg, exhibiting excellent thermal stability suitable for scalable production. However, the activity of HtSOD is reduced to less than 10% under the acidic environment.

Rosuvastatin (RVS) is an excellent drug with anti-inflammatory and lipid-lowering properties in the academic and medical fields. However, this drug faces a series of challenges when used to treat atherosclerosis caused by hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy), including high oral dosage, poor targeting, and long-term toxic side effects. In this study, we applied nanotechnology to construct a biomimetic nano-delivery system, macrophage membrane (Møm)-coated RVS-loaded Prussian blue (PB) nanoparticles (MPR NPs), for improving the bioavailability and targeting capacity of RVS, specifically to the plaque lesions associated with HHcy-induced atherosclerosis.

Lonicerae japonicae flos (LJF) and Lonicerae flos (LF) are traditional Chinese herbs that are commonly used and widely known for their medicinal properties and edibility. Although they may have a similar appearance and vary slightly in chemical composition, their effectiveness as medicine and their use in clinical settings vary significantly, making them unsuitable for substitution. In this study, a novel 2 × 3 six-channel fluorescent sensor array is proposed that uses machine learning algorithms in combination with the indicator displacement assay (IDA) method to quickly identify LJF and LF.

We established a zebrafish model of depression-like behaviour induced by exposure to artificial light at night (ALAN) and found that nobiletin (NOB) alleviated depression-like behaviour. Subsequently, based on the results of a 24-h free movement assay, clock gene expression and brain tissue transcriptome sequencing, the glycolysis signalling pathway was identified as a potential target through which NOB exerted antidepressant effects. Using the ALAN zebrafish model, we found that supplementation with exogenous L-lactic acid alleviated depressive-like behaviour.

To let water jets land at the fire, pitch angle of the fire monitor has to be adjusted manually with successive rounds, which seriously affects the efficiency of fire extinguishing. To improve the efficiency, this paper proposes a technology for water jet trajectory modeling and landing point prediction to help with extinguishing automatically. Considering fragmentation and atomization of water jets, trajectories are analyzed and the predicted trajectory is closer to the real situation.

Groundwater is a vital water supply worldwide, but its quality has gradually deteriorated with the development of society. In this study, a total of 40 groundwater samples were collected during the pre- and post-monsoon to analyze the hydrochemical process and assess the groundwater quality and human health risks in a coastal area of southeastern China. The results showed that the concentrations of major ions were in the order of Ca > Mg > Na > K and HCO > SO > Cl > NO > F during the pre- and post-monsoon periods.

Epigenetic regulations, such as DNA methylation and microRNAs, play an important role in renal fibrosis. Here, we report the regulation of microRNA219a-2 by DNA methylation in fibrotic kidneys, unveiling the crosstalk between these epigenetic mechanisms. Through genome-wide DNA methylation analysis and pyrosequencing, we detected the hypermethylation of microRNA219a-2 in renal fibrosis induced by unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) or renal ischemia/reperfusion, which was accompanied by a significant decrease in microRNA-219a-5p expression.

Screening approved library is a promising and safe strategy to overcome the limitation of low response rate and drug resistance in immunotherapy. Accumulating evidence showed that the application of antibiotics has been considered to reduce the effectiveness of anti-PD1 immunotherapy in tumor treatment, however, in this study, an antibiotic drug (Eravacycline, ERV) was identified to improve the efficacy of anti-PD1 immunotherapy in melanoma through screening approved library. Administration of ERV significantly attenuated melanoma cells growth as well as directly or indirectly benefited M1 macrophage polarization.
