June 2023

Department of Ultrasound, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan Province, 410000, China.

Sorafenib resistance is one of the main obstacles to the treatment of advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Stress proteins TRIB3 and STC2 confer cell resistance to a variety of stresses, including hypoxia, nutritional deprivation, and other perturbations, which induce endoplasmic reticulum stress. However, the role of TRIB3 and STC2 in sorafenib sensitivity to HCC remains unclear.

In this study, soluble dietary fibers (SDFs) were extracted from rape bee pollen using four methods including acid extraction (AC), alkali extraction (AL), cellulase extraction (CL) and complex enzyme extraction (CE). The effects of different extraction methods on the structure of SDFs and in vitro fermentation characteristics were further investigated. The results showed that the four extraction methods significantly affected the monosaccharide composition molar ratio, molecular weight, surface microstructure and phenolic compounds content, but showed little effect on the typical functional groups and crystal structure.

The uncontrolled growth of dendrites and serious side reactions, such as hydrogen evolution and corrosion, significantly hinder the industrial application and development of aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs). This article presents ovalbumin (OVA) as a multifunctional electrolyte additive for aqueous ZIBs. Experimental characterizations and theoretical calculations reveal that the OVA additive can replace the solvated sheath of recombinant hydrated Zn through the coordination water, preferentially adsorb on the surface of the Zn anode, and construct a high-quality self-healing protective film.

This study aimed to analyze the epidemiological characteristics of cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P) and CL/P-related perinatal deaths, provide some information for intervention programs to reduce the incidence of CL/P and provide clues for future researchers. Data were obtained from the Birth Defects Surveillance System in Hunan Province, China, 2016-2020. Incidences of CL/P [number of cases per 1000 fetuses (births and deaths at 28 weeks of gestation and beyond)] with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated by residence, gender, maternal age, year, and major types [cleft lip only (CL), cleft palate only (CP), and cleft lip with palate (CLP)].

Iron-Rich Semiconducting Polymer Dots for the Combination of Ferroptosis-Starvation and Phototherapeutic Cancer Therapy.

Adv Healthc Mater

October 2023

Department of Chemistry and Center for Fluorinated Functional Materials, University of South Dakota, Vermillion, SD, 57069, USA.

Chemodynamic therapy (CDT) has emerged as an outstanding antitumor therapeutic method due to its selectivity and utilization of tumor microenvironment. However, there are still unmet requirements to achieve a high antitumor efficiency, including the tumor accumulation of catalyst and enrichment of reactants of Fenton reaction. Here, an iron-loaded semiconducting polymer dot modified with glucose oxidase (Pdot@Fe@GOx) is reported to deliver iron ions into tumor tissues and in situ generation of hydrogen peroxide in tumors.

June 2023

Department of Pediatric Orthopedics, Hunan Children's Hospital, Pediatric Academy of University of South China, No.86, Ziyuan Road, Yuhua District, Changsha, 410000, Hunan Province, China.

Objectives: To investigate the clinical efficacy and safety of open reduction through anterior minimally invasive approach in the treatment of children with developmental dysplasia of the hip.

Method: A total of 23 patients (25 hips) less than 2 years with developmental dysplasia of the hip treated by open reduction through anterior minimally invasive approach were treated in our hospital from August 2016 to March 2019. Through the anterior minimally invasive approach, we enter from the gap between sartorius muscle and tensor fasciae lata without cutting off rectus femoris muscle, which can effectively expose the joint capsule and reduce the damage to medial blood vessels and nerves.

Synthesis of α-allenic aldehydes/ketones from homopropargylic alcohols using a visible-light irradiation system.

Org Biomol Chem

June 2023

Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of the Research and Development of Novel Pharmaceutical Preparations, Changsha Medical University, Provincial first-class applied discipline (pharmacy), Changsha, 410000, China.

A visible-light irradiation tandem oxidative aryl migration/carbonyl formation reaction, mediated by KSO and visible-light photoredox catalysis, has been discovered. The presented transformation provides a straightforward access to important α-allenic aldehyde/ketone derivatives from readily available homopropargylic alcohol derivatives in a regioselective manner of 1,4-aryl shift concomitant with carbonyl formation. The operational simplicity and broad substrate scope demonstrate the great potential of this method for the synthesis of highly functional α-allenic aldehyde/ketone derivatives.

Dry-Transferable Photoresist Enabled Reliable Conformal Patterning for Ultrathin Flexible Electronics.

Adv Mater

September 2023

College of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, Hunan University, Changsha, 410082, P. R. China.

Photolithographic techniques, which are widely used in the silicon-based semiconductor industry, enable the manufacture of high-yield and high-resolution features at the micrometer and nanometer scales. However, conventional photolithographic processes cannot accommodate the micro/nanofabrication of flexible and stretchable electronics. In this study, a microfabrication approach that uses a synthesized, environmentally friendly, and dry-transferable photoresist to enable the reliable conformal manufacturing of thin-film electronics is reported, which is also compatible with the existing cleanroom processes.

Despite the significant impacts of natural factors such as rainfall, topography, soil type, and river network as well as agricultural activities on the environmental water quality, little is known about the influence of their temporal and spatial variations in a fluvial-lacustrine watershed. In this study, a whole process accounting method based the export coefficient model (WP-ECM) was first developed to quantify how natural factors and agricultural activities distribution influenced water quality. A case study was performed in a typical fluvial-lacustrine area - Dongting basin, China.
