Cell fate is precisely modulated by complex but well-tuned molecular signaling networks, whose spatial and temporal dysregulation commonly leads to hazardous diseases. Biomolecular condensates (BCs), as a newly emerging type of biophysical assemblies, decipher the molecular codes bridging molecular behaviors, signaling axes, and clinical prognosis. Particularly, physical traits of BCs play an important role; however, a panoramic view from this perspective toward clinical practices remains lacking.

Mesophase pitch is usually prepared by radical polymerization or catalytic polymerization from coal tar, petroleum, and aromatic compounds, and the catalytic synthesis of mesophase pitch from pure aromatic compounds is more controllable in the preparation of high-quality mesophase pitch. However, the corrosive and highly toxic nature of the catalyst has limited the further development of this method. In this study, mesophase pitch was synthetized using ethylene tar and naphthalene as raw materials and boron trifluoride diethyl etherate as a catalyst.

Proteolysis targeting chimera (PROTAC) technology is an innovative strategy for cancer therapy, which, however, suffers from poor targeting delivery and limited capability for protein of interest (POI) degradation. Here, we report a strategy for the in situ formulation of antineoplastic Supra-PROTACs via intracellular sulfatase-responsive assembly of peptides. Coassembling a sulfated peptide with two ligands binding to ubiquitin VHL and Bcl-xL leads to the formation of a pro-Supra-PROTAC, in which the ratio of the two ligands is rationally optimized based on their protein binding affinity.

Histone chaperones serve a pivotal role in maintaining human physiological processes. They interact with histones in a stable manner, ensuring the accurate and efficient execution of DNA replication, repair and transcription. Retinoblastoma binding protein (RBBP)4 and RBBP7 represent a crucial pair of histone chaperones, which not only govern the molecular behavior of histones H3 and H4, but also participate in the functions of several protein complexes, such as polycomb repressive complex 2 and nucleosome remodeling and deacetylase, thereby regulating the cell cycle, histone modifications, DNA damage and cell fate.

Utilizing renewable lignocellulosic resources for wastewater remediation is crucial to achieving sustainable social development. However, the resulting by-products and the synthetic process characterized by complexity, high cost, and environmental pollution limit the further development of lignocellulose-based materials. Here, we developed a sustainable strategy that involved a new functional deep eutectic solvent (DES) to deconstruct industrial xylose residue into cellulose-rich residue with carboxyl groups, lignin with carboxyl and quaternary ammonium salt groups, and DES effluent rich in lignin fragments.

Obesity-related glomerulopathy (ORG) is an independent risk factor for chronic kidney disease and even progression to end-stage renal disease. Efforts have been undertaken to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the development of ORG and substantial advances have been made in the treatment of ORG, but relatively little is known about cell-specific changes in gene expression. To define the transcriptomic landscape at single-cell resolution, we analyzed kidney samples from four patients with ORG and three obese control subjects without kidney disease using single-cell RNA sequencing.

Uncovering the spatiotemporal features of ecosystem services (ESs) and their intricate interrelations in large lake basins can facilitate the development of scientific management measures for various ESs. Previous studies have focused less on watershed units and their historical dynamics, and the ecosystem service (ES) driving mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we focused on Hunan Province-the main coverage area of the Dongting Lake Basin (China's second largest freshwater lake), investigated the spatiotemporal characteristics of seven typical ESs and their interactions, identified the ecosystem service bundle (ESB) historical spatial patterns and revealed the socio-ecological driving mechanisms of these ES changes.
