Modern advances in oncological treatments determined a significant improvement in survival rates for several malignancies. Nevertheless, survivorship and quality of life of cancer survivors may be negatively impaired by metabolic and endocrine side effects related to anticancer treatments, including alterations of pituitary-gonadal axis function. In fact, both medical (chemo- and radiotherapy) and surgical approaches may negatively impact on gonadal function, leading to transient or permanent hypogonadism and infertility.

Background: 3D heads-up visualization systems are aimed to improve the surgical experience by providing high-resolution imaging. Objective of our study is to analyze, over a long-time span, the grade of satisfaction and safety of day-to-day 3D surgery compared to standard surgery and to investigate the technical distinctiveness between the heads-up systems currently in use.
Methods: In this retrospective observational case series.

Introduction: Post-operative CSF leak still represents the main drawback of Endoscopic Endonasal Approach (EEA), and different reconstructive strategies have been proposed in order to decrease its rate.
Objective: To critically analyze the effectiveness of different adopted reconstruction strategies in patients that underwent EEA.
Materials And Methods: Adult patients with skull base tumor surgically treated with EEA were retrospectively analyzed.

Introduction: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has dramatically hit all Europe and Northern Italy in particular. The reallocation of medical resources has caused a sharp reduction in the activity of many medical disciplines, including urology. The restricted availability of resources is expected to cause a delay in the treatment of urological cancers and to negatively influence the clinical history of many cancer patients.

Purpose: Although acute conjunctivitis has been listed from the beginning as a possible sign of COVID-19, the likelihood of this association remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between COVID-19 and conjunctivitis.
Methods: In this retrospective, observational study, we recruited all patients with signs and symptoms of acute conjunctivitis seen at the Eye Emergency Department (ED), Turin Eye Hospital, between 01/01/2020 and 12/05/2020 and cross-checked our data with the Piedmont Region online COVID-19 registry in the same period.

Introduction: The impact of neurological deficits plays a role of inestimable importance in patients with a neoplastic disease. The role of surgery for the management of symptomatic spinal cord compression (SSCC) cannot be overemphasized, as surgery represents often the first and paramount step in patients presenting with motor deficits. The traditional paradigm of simple bilateral laminectomy for the treatment of spinal cord compression has been reviewed.

: We are currently at the dawn of a revolution in the field of fatty liver diseases. Recently, a consensus recommended 'metabolic (dysfunction) associated fatty liver disease' (MAFLD) as a more appropriate name to describe fatty liver disease associated with metabolic dysfunction, ultimately suggesting that the old acronym nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) should be abandoned.: In this viewpoint, we discuss the reasons and relevance of this semantic modification through five different conceptual domains, i.

Background: Uterine sarcomas are very rare tumours with different histotypes, molecular features and clinical outcomes; therefore, it is difficult to carry out prospective clinical trials, and this often results in heterogeneous management of patients in the clinical practice.
Aim: We planned to set up an Italian consensus conference on these diseases in order to provide recommendations on treatments and quality of care in our country.
Results: Early-stage uterine sarcomas are managed by hysterectomy + bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy according to menopausal status and histology; lymphadenectomy is not indicated in patients without bulky nodes, and morcellation must be avoided.

Discrepant thyroid function tests (TFTs) are typical of inappropriate secretion of TSH (IST), a rare entity encompassing TSH-secreting adenomas (TSHoma) and Resistance to Thyroid Hormone (RTHβ) due to mutations. The differential diagnosis remains a clinical challenge in most of the cases. The objective of this study was to share our experience with patients presenting with discrepant TFTs outlining the main pitfalls in the differential diagnosis.

Introduction: Scleral buckling (SB) has been the first technique to repair a retinal detachment (RD) and it is still largely in use. Pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) is currently the most common technique, being more versatile and easier to approach. Here we report on a new SB variant, modified by using some of the latest technological advances borrowed from PPV.

Giant cell tumor of bone (GCTB) is a locally aggressive and rarely metastatic tumor, with a relatively unpredictable clinical course. A retrospective series of 46 GCTB and a control group of 24 aneurysmal bone cysts (ABC) were selected with the aim of investigating the PD-L1 expression levels and immune-related gene expression profile, in correlation with clinicopathological features. PD-L1 and Ki67 were immunohistochemically tested in each case.

Introduction: This paper aims to assess the diagnostic accuracy of an 11C-choline positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scan in the detection of lymph node (LN) metastases in patients with biochemical recurrence after radically treated prostate cancer (PCa), as compared to histology. The secondary goal is to depict spreading patterns of metastatic LNs in recurrent PCa.
Material And Methods: A single center retrospective study comprising of 30 patients who underwent retroperitoneal and/or pelvic salvage lymph node dissection (LND) due to 11C-choline PET/CT-positive nodal recurrences after radical treatment (median Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) 1.

In liver cirrhosis, renin-angiotensin system (RAS) activation sustains renal sodium retention and hepatic fibrogenesis. New information has recently enlivened the traditional concept of RAS. For instance, renin and prorenin bind their ubiquitous receptors, resulting in the local production of angiotensin (Ang) II; increased serum calcium and calcimimetic agents, through stimulation of extracellular calcium-sensing receptors (CaSR), blunt renin production and lead to natriuretic effects in human and experimental cirrhosis.
